Borderlands/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Author Existence Failure: GameSpy, which provided the online multi-player for the PC version, ceased operations in 2013. You can still play LAN multi-player though.
  • Fan Nickname: The Secret Armory DLC is often called the "farmory" (affectionately and not), thanks to a glitch that allowed you to easily loot the many chests at the end with no time limit (whereas normal circumstances give you ~3 minutes to grab stuff).
  • Follow the Leader: The developers have cited many influences to the game, even saying at one point this game stemmed from wanting to make "Fallout 3, but with co-op". Of course, in the end, there were many differences from that basic statement. It's more Fallout 3 meets... a lot of stuff. Even then, aside from some very vague similarities, its not even all that Fallout-y.
  • Hey, It's That Voice!:
  • One of Us: Sure, video game developers are practically already One of Us, but they really love their Shout-Outs...
  • Real Song Theme Tune: "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked" by Cage The Elephant. It's both used in the games trailer and the intro to the game itself.
  • Schedule Slip: Most of the DLC and patches got hit by this.
  • Sleeper Hit: While not without excitement leading to its release, an original IP from a relatively unknown studio becoming universally acclaimed was unexpected, to say the least.
  • Urban Legend of Zelda: Played with and averted. It may sound foolish to go on the hidden boat in Treacher's Landing and shoot a few barrels, but then something actually happens. It's Tannis suddenly riding around the area on a fish, with unique music to boot.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Early trailers suggested a story based, Real Is Brown FPS with RPG elements. It was changed to a Rule of Fun FPS/RPG with focus on More Dakka.
    • In the Game Informer article, they mentioned being able to disassemble guns into their parts so you could build your own super guns out of them. Not that it matters when you can find almost any combination you could want in game anyways (or build your own from component parts outside of the game with a gear construction kit).
