Holy Relic is a Journal Roleplay set in The World R:2 with a few differences.

Most importantly, the characters are physically in the game world rather than using a head-mounted interface, much to the chagrin of any .hack// characters that find themselves there. Instead, everything that would be handled using an overlay menu is taken care of using a steampunk iPhone-like device called a Relic, which despite the name of the game, is not holy in any way. It also isn't a phone.

Oh, and they're in different outfits.

It used to be on Livejournal, but moved to Dreamwidth after its mods noticed that people were having trouble staying around.

Tropes used in Holy Relic include:

• Most of the gameplay and setting tropes exhibited by .hack//G.U.
• Calling Your Attacks: There's no other way for a character to use a skill from their class. It's optional with regards to powers that characters brought from home.
• Clingy MacGuffin: The Relic, which will just reappear in its owner's bag if it's lost. Which is a good thing, because it's borderline necessary.
• Continuity Nod: The names of the communities used are all keywords from G.U.
• Cute Bruiser: Rena
• Death Is Not Permanent: What else do you expect from an MMORPG?
• Holiday Mode: Many of the game's events are holiday-based.
• Genre Savvy: Sonic, much to his chagrin, as he feels he just isn't cut out for RPGs.
• Heroes Prefer Swords: Blade Brandier is by far the most common single class, and also a common choice on Adept Rogues.
• Humanity Ensues: Amaterasu and Tachigami. Amaterasu eventually got the ability to change into her full wolf form back.
• Mega Crossover
• Staff Chick: Harvest Clerics, including male ones such as Hope Estheim and Dave Strider.
• Summon Magic: Entirely averted. Summoning is the only power from other worlds that stops working in The World, except if the thing being summoned is connected to the user him/herself, such as a Persona.
• Trapped in Another World
• Translator Microbes: Everyone comes in with an earpiece enabling them to hear everyone and everything else in their native tongue.
• Weapon of Choice: More or less how the classes are divided up. Adept Rogues choose two in any combination, unlike the point-buy system used in .hack//G.U.
