Your proposed edit to The Stoic has been rejected...

...because it is a word-for-word copy of material deleted from the Real Life section of TV Tropes' "The Stoic" page somewhere around the end of January 2020. This is copyright infringement as the deleted material postdates the fork and TV Tropes' subsequent change of license in 2012. Because All The Tropes and TV Tropes run under different Creative Commons licenses, content created there after 2012 cannot legally be used here without the express written approval of all the editors who contributed to it. Yes, even if it's been deleted from their page, their copyright on the material still remains.

As a cherry on top, we've noted that you didn't even make a token effort at converting it from TVT's markup to ours. Even if you had been legally able to copy the content, that alone would have gotten the edit rejected.

We strongly recommend you read the following pages:

Also, please review How We Do Bans Around Here, to which we first directed you in September 2020: per that page, understand that copyright infringement is a bannable offense, and one that we are never inclined to be forgiving about because it puts the entire wiki at legal risk. This is a formal warning that another attempt to steal content from TV Tropes and fraudulently present yourself as its rights holder by posting it here will result in at least another temporary ban and possibly a permanent one.

Do not set rules for what is or is not an example of a trope without first gaining consensus for setting those rules

Your edit to Sensitive Guy and Manly Man, which I have already reverted, set forth rules on what could or could not be listed as examples. I know that you did not get consensus for these rules because I can see that you did not start any discussion about making that change on either the trope's Talk page or the wiki's Forum.

@Looney Toons already brought to your attention All The Tropes:Terms of Service, which spoecifically states:

By registering as a contributor to All The Tropes (ATT), you agree to the following terms:
1. You promise not to be a huge jerk on our site. This includes page vandalism, link spamming, abusive behavior, illegal acts (in the United States or the Netherlands), or trying to drown out others' opinions.

Emphasis added. Note that we think that this is sufficiently important to be the very first thing in the Terms of Service.

Looney Toons and I both brought to your attention All The Tropes:How We Do Bans Around Here, which specifically states:

Grounds for a tempban without warning on the first occurrence
...

Since you have seen fit to ignore the need to get other people's opinions before making substantive changes to the definition of a trope, I have no choice but to block your editing rights for three days, as per the guideline that was previously brought to your attention by two admins. Be warned that further behaviour of this sort will result in longer tempbans.

(Also, your edits to Sensitive Guy and Manly Man, In Touch with His Feminine Side, Tomboy, and Tomboy and Girly Girl also contained what appears to be a pejorative term. While the word "janegirl" is not defined in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary or Oxford English Dictionary, it is defined on Wikipedia as being a synonym of "sissy" - which is not a compliment. The edits have been reverted as part of the current project to remove pejorative terms from the wiki. You are free to appeal this decision to any other admin.)

I’m sorry. No excuse. It’s just that I’ve been so obsessed with the tomboy and tomgirl thing so much and always been searching constantly. Thank You and have a good day.

Raymanbell, if you received notification about this thread, it's because I edited a typo in Robkelk's message and it may have triggered a ping for you. Nothing has changed since the last time you saw this thread.

Welcome to All The Tropes!

It's pretty obvious from the 20K of material that you just plunked down in Byronic Hero that you're a TV Tropes Refugee, or at least familiar with how they do things there. It's also pretty clear that you have no idea how we do things here. Your contribution had a pretty random assortment of CamelCase links (AKA "Wiki Words", which we don't use) and completely uncoded links where it looks like you might have started a conversion but then quit in the middle. There were a goodly handful of other issues, as well.

Now don't worry, I went in and fixed everything I spotted (although I did comment out an example that wasn't an example so much as a "this guy was mysterious and cool"). However, it will gain you much credit with us admins if you would please read the following pages and apply the information in them to any future contributions you might make:

It is especially important that you realize that MediaWiki markup is different from PMWiki markup (which is what TV Tropes uses). This page is a good concise list of all the formatting options available and what they do, with the most common ones at the top.

Much more important than that is something you will have come across on So You're a TV Tropes Refugee -- copyrights. Because of the differences in licenses, you cannot legally copy text from TVT to All The Tropes unless you are the sole author of the material you are copying, or have the explicit permission of every person who wrote part of it. We check the contributions of new users against TV Tropes, especially very large contributions like yours. As far as we can tell, your contribution wasn't cut-and-pasted from TV Tropes, so you're safe there. But it's good to make sure you know ahead of any other contributions.

If you are planning on creating entire pages any time soon, we strongly recommend that you use the Page Creator (which can be found in the menu along the left edge of every page, as the first item under "Troping Utilities"). Using the page creator will start you with a skeleton page with all the necessary markup to make it look and work like a proper ATT page. It will also gain you credit with the staff, who won't have to go in and fix your pages after you think you're done.

If you're going to create a page, we also suggest you read whatever's the most relevant of these pages:

Finally we strongly recommend that you read All The Tropes:How We Do Bans Around Here. This isn't a threat -- this is the wiki policy strictly controlling how and when user bans can be applied by an Admin. We want you to be aware that unlike TVT, we do not ban users on whims or because we're cranky.

Once again, welcome to the wiki, and we look forward to more contributions from you!
