• Acceptable Targets: Fans of anime and games based on them. Also Japan in general: Morgan Webb once claimed the eastern Asian country only became "civilized" after being nuked, and that she feared "day that zany bean-curd-loving race finally rules over us".
• Archive Binge/Archive Panic: Sadly averted. Back in the early days of video podcasts, X-Play's Daily Video Podcast chronicled near every review and comedy sketch - even those made under the X-Play version of the show but predating the podcast's inception. After a few years, the back episodes were relegated to their own archives by year, still free to download, but then for whatever reason - maybe bandwidth costs, Executive Meddling related to the retools, or iTunes not wanting to host thousands of videos of a single show - then videos were removed, and now you can't find many videos from more than a year ago anywhere. Many reviews were also available on YouTube in both legal and not-so-legal forms, but the latter were DMCA'ed in the lead-up to the launch of Hulu, which features G4 content. Only in the US of A, of course.
• Complaining About Shows You Don't Watch: Morgan's review for Tales of the Abyss shows that she (or the other writers) either didn't play the game at all, or only played for maybe an hour or so and then jumped to conclusions about what the story would lead. All of which were wrong,
• Critical Research Failure / Media Research Failure : Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop does not have minigames. They called them extra missions, before that, which is what they are. Minigames are like separate games within a game, not gameplay and level additions to the main game. It seems like they only called it that because minigames equals bad to a lot of gamers.
  • Really, the show had a lot of this. It became clear as it went on that the interns responsible for writing up a summary to be turned into a review on the show would play maybe an hour of a game before hitting Youtube and finding the "funniest" clips to use over and over again to disguise the fact that they hadn't really played the game all the way through.
• Crowning Moment of Awesome: Their review of Duke Nukem Forever, especially Adam calling out the game for its sexist attitude, is this.
  • Unless you consider calling out a Duke Nukem game for being sexist Completely Missing the Point.
• Crowning Moment of Funny: For one, see 8.8. There's also anything involving Drunk Link, or lots of the skits, like this one.
  • The episode where the X-Play crew were forced to write reviews of video games from The Eighties...but ultimately ended up writing a suicide pact.
  • Adam Sessler going mad at the fact that a kid's site is making more money than him (Viacom buying the site for a large sum of money didn't help) and begging kids to go get money from mommy's purse and send it to him.
  • Speaking of Drunk Link, the time he had phone sex with Taki.
  • Video Game of Thrones opening with King Mario sentencing Toad to death for telling him "Our princess is in another castle."
• Detractor Nickname: "Morgan Manjaw".
• Don't Like, Don't Read: Somebody should really tell Adam and Morgan as well as the writers that they really should not be playing Japanese Role Playing Games since they seem to trash the entire genre as a whole.
• Ear Worm: X-Play All the way Monday through Friday please don't ever go away 'cause I need my X-Play!
  • The Musical episode is full of them:

"X-Play! They review the games the best way! I watch them on the tv every daaaaayyy...!"

• 8.8: In particular, the 2/5 they gave the otherwise universally well-received Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. Adam and Morgan admit they have it in for Final Fantasy in general. And then, in a Crowning Moment of Funny, they "re-reviewed" it.
  • The show apparently caught backlash for its Killzone 2 review; when their score was 5. Out of 5.
• Ensemble Darkhorse: When the show used to have sketches, the breakout characters were Canadian Guy, Screaming Intern, Ratty, Johnny X-Treme, Roger The Stan Lee Experience, and Shirtless Intern.
  • No love for the Drunk Link character? Not even for the other interns themselves?
  • Or Crazy "I'm going to make me a woman suit!" Adam?
  • Or the Merchant?
  • Or Special Agent Bob and Secret Agent Steve
• Fan Hater: Do you like anything Japanese? Do you like Final Fantasy (particularly past the sixth installment) in particular? How about any of the Dynasty Warriors games? Then it's highly likely that Adam and Morgan will think you are the scum of the earth and have not been enlightened to the games they find better. Shown especially when they reviewed the first DBZ Budokai game. They basically say that they don't care what the DBZ fans think.
  • Likewise, they do occasionally play an Anime-based game that's actually decent. Sometimes they spend the entire review mocking the game but still give it 3 or 4 stars. In one episode they said, "We don't actually hate anime games. We just hate games that suck, and it just so happens that most anime games do suck."
• He Panned It, Now He Sucks: Just imagine the state of Adam Sessler's inbox after he did the segment entitled: "Your Childhood Sucks: Final Fantasy VII." There's probably a reason they haven't done another segment like that since...
  • Though admittedly, the Did Not Do the Research in the video didn't help matters.
• Jump the Shark: Several points, but the two most likely are when the sets switched after moving from San Francisco to LA, or when the set switched from the green set to the black set with random glass spheres (and a costume change).
• Seasonal Rot: Around 2006, give-or-take, many have complained that the show dropped in quality when they became over-reliant on sketches, became more-and-more of fan haters, and started having a bias against Sony games while praising anything made by Microsoft. This lead to some to believe that the writers were on Microsoft's pay-roll.
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks: The fandom reaction to the 2008 retool.
  • Somewhat justified. Making a video game review show into something else entirely would tend to ruffle up some feathers here and there.
• It Is Pronounced "Tro-PAY": You'd expect after all the Naruto games they reviewed, they would be able to pronounce the titular character's name correctly. They also manage to mispronounce the name of other characters as well (They pronounce Sasuke by Exactly What It Says on the Tin, when the "U" is supposed to be silent).
