Titles are important... well, at least they are to some people. But over the course of the ages, different people have held the same titles, and they tend to create an "image" around them. If there was a very famous person with the title of Count who killed a lot of people, well, anyone titled "Count" will invoke their image to some extent.

In fiction, the image often defines the character with the title.
