The 1981 film

• Hey, It's That Guy!: Maggie Smith as Thetis, Burgess Meredith as Ammon, the original Bond Girl as Aphrodite (which doubled as a Parental Bonus when the movie was new), and, most of all, Laurence Olivier as Zeus -- there's a reason Last Action Hero referred to him in this role.
• Money, Dear Boy: Part of the reason Laurence Olivier was cast as Zeus. Probably the same with Maggie Smith.

The remake:

• Hey, It's That Guy!:
  • Solon, one of the Argos soldiers with the most lines and screentime is played by veteran Irish character actor Liam Cunningham who has been in a billion movies but is probably most familiar from The Wind That Shakes the Barley and Perriers Bounty.
    • And now he's Davos Seaworth.
  • Lord Voldemort is trying to get revenge on his brother Ra's al Ghul.
    • Liam Neeson clearly loves playing those "grandiose deity" characters; he also famously voiced a certain personification of God elsewhere. And for all of this, we love him.
  • The only thing standing in his way? Jake Sully.
  • Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes have fought before.
  • Draco was Le Chiffre and Io is Agent Strawberry Fields.
  • Perseus' adoptive father was Roland Tembo. Who was in... so many movies he deserves his own trope (along with Danny Trejo) for being the Hey, It's That Guy! in so many movies.
  • Mr Hyde plays Acrisius/Calibos, more or less in the same manner and with a lot of the same vocal cues. And Dr Bashir plays Hermes.
  • Effy is Andromeda's...handmaiden? Sister? It's not clear. In any case, she only gets one line.
  • Tony has a rather larger role as one of Perseus' team.
  • Juno Eclipse is Artemis.
  • Apollo has later become Zeus.
  • Andromeda is Miranda Frost.
• So My Kids Can Watch: Liam Neeson took on the role of Zeus because his sons thought it would be awesome.
• Star-Derailing Role: For both Sam Worthington and post-production 3D conversions in general.
• Wag the Director: It has been revealed that there's a significantly different edit that has a plotline much closer to classical mythology. The reason why it wasn't released is unclear, but there are indications that Sam Worthington successfully argued that it wouldn't be entertaining to children.
• What Could Have Been: Matthew Belamy was writing the score, but had to abandon midway through as Muse started a tour.
  • The original ending is closer to the original myth and movie.
    • Perseus slapping Zeus with a fish would've been closer to the original myth than the release ending.
  • The original idea for the movie was a Crossover Cosmology with Tiamat waging war against the Greek pantheon and Perseus being assisted by Thoth, Osiris, Marduk and Yahweh. He would also apparently have a romantic affair with some "Cthonian Earth goddess." (The filmmakers apparently have something against Andromeda for some reason...)
