• Actor Allusion: Kaidan's voice actor is the same as Carth Onasi's.

Kaidan: I just don't want you to think that I'm, you know... a whiner.

• Banned in China: For about two days in Singapore.
• Beam Me Up, Scotty!: Shepard never says "We'll bang, okay?" in-game. That quote originated from a Youtube Poop that mashed together several Shepard lines out of context.
• Cash Cow Franchise: Four novellas, two comics (plus two free mini-comics), and three spinoff iPhone Games, so far.
• Celebrity Voice Actor: All over the place. Seth Green, Adam Baldwin, Yvonne Strahovski, Tricia Helfer, Martin Sheen, Claudia Black, Carrie-Anne Moss... the list goes on. In fact, it could be said that the in-development movie could very well be made with many of the characters literally being played by their voices.
• Doing It for the Art: Sure, BioWare didn't need to go so in-depth in the Codex, but it helps expand the world a lot. For example, quarians are all vegetarians... but only because animals take up space and resources. When they land in a system with dextro-DNA animals, they pig out and get the equivalent of a hangover. It's unlikely that a fan will read this in the Codex, but they did it so that if some random Joe wonders about the eating habits of the quarians, they know.
• Fan Nickname:
  • "Sheploo" for the default male Shepard (after Mark Vanderloo, whose face male Shepard is modeled off of).
  • Kasumi uses the common nickname Shep for him/her.
  • And, of course, FemShep for female Shepard.
  • There is also FailShep, which refers to the default Shepard of a non-imported game who has made decisions that many players consider questionable.
  • In-universe, Vega takes to calling male Shepard "Loco" and female Shepard "Lola".
  • Likewise Shepard is referred to as "Skipper" by Ashley.
  • In Mass Effect 3, both Jack and Aria refer to Paragon Shepard as a "Boyscout" or "Girlscout".
• Hey, It's That Voice!:
  • The narrator for the data files is Colonel Volgin.
  • Company of Heroes players will be unsurprised by Vakarian's sniper skill, since he was an American one there.
  • Kaidan's voiced by Raphael Sbarge, who also played Carth in Knights of the Old Republic and Scorch in Republic Commando.
• Jossed: Fans had plenty of theories as to the true identity of the Shadow Broker. The Asari Consort? The Council? The geth? Nope. The truth is that he was a member of a seemingly Exclusively Evil species never before mentioned in the series, proving nearly all the fan theories about the Broker wrong.
• Killer App: The series is considered a mainstay of the 360 system...
  • ...but then a PS3 port of Mass Effect 2 gets announced.
• Name's the Same: Ashley Williams, anyone?
• One of Us: Just check the shout out page. BioWare clearly watches the same shows and reads the same comics.
• What Could Have Been: Saren's original costume design had him dressed all in black.
