- Ability Over Appearance: Jean-Claude Van Damme is not known for his acting abilities (in English) and speaks English with a very strong Belgian-French accent, but he can replicate Guile's super-human fighting style better than most. Not surprisingly, he was cast at behest of Capcom: the original game is all about action with a plot weakly attached to it.
- Awesome, Dear Boy: Raul Julia's reason for making this film was because his kids thought it would be cool, so he did it for them... and single-handedly (sort of) saved the movie.
- Hey, It's That Guy!: Pretty much the whole damn cast:
- Raul Julia as M. Bison.
- Kylie Minogue as Cammy.
- Grand L. Bush
- Miguel A. Nunez (Juwanna Mann!)
- Everyone's favorite well-respected Cherokee actor, Wes Studi.
- Robert Mammone as Carlos Blanka
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li. Doubles as a Hey, It's That Girl! for fans of ER and Stargate Universe.
- Money, Dear Boy: Raul Julia wanted the money for the role so he'd be able to make sure his two sons were taken care of.
- So My Kids Can Watch: He knew that he was about to make his last film, because he was dying of cancer, so he let his kids choose his last role.
- What Could Have Been: Early drafts of the script focused on Ryu and Ken as the main characters. However, when Jean-Claude Van Damme signed on to appear in the film he insisted on being Guile and making him the central character. So the script was rewritten.
- In the year 2003, the movie was slated to finally have a sequel. Van Damme and Damien Chapa were to return as Guile and Ken, Holly Valance was to take over for Kylie Minogue as Cammy, Byron Mann was in talks to return as Ryu and Dolph Lundgren was supposed to appear in an untold role. However, once the rights to the franchise left Universal and went to FOX, the sequel was scrapped and turned into a reboot called Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, which was far, far less received than this cult classic.
- In the sequel it would have been revealed that Blanka and Dhalsim survived and the chemicals that made Dhalsim bald also gave him his stretching powers.
- They originally wanted Fabio to play Vega, which is understandable considering Vega's narcissism (and would've made a hilarious Funny Aneurysm Moment years later when Fabio's face was smashed after colliding with a goose on a roller coaster -- no, you did not misread any of that.
