Should this have had its Example Sectionectomy?

As I post this, the page says in part:

See Fanfare for the orchestral equivalent.
Please note that because any song could be this for someone, this page has no examples.

The thing is, Fanfare allows examples just fine.

Why the double standard? (Yes, I know we got the page in this shape from TV Tropes. That's no reason to leave the page in its current state. But if folks can give us a different reason, well...)

Pinging the usual folks, but everybody is welcome to comment: @Agiletek @GentlemensDame883 @Goo Monster @HeneryVII @HornyLikeIAmA14YearOldGirl @Jlaw‎ @Lequinni‎ @RivetVermin @Umbire the Phantom @Utini501 @Labster @Looney Toons @GethN7 @Robkelk @QuestionableSanity @Derivative @SelfCloak

I'd say let's allow examples.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

I'd restrict it to in-universe examples only if we retained examples.

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

I think only in-universe examples might be too restrictive, but the concern about running wild with personal assertions isn't entirely unfounded. I know we don't need attributions normally, but would making an exception for this page (eg. linking to articles) be a fair compromise?

I have no problems with examples either way. Has anyone checked the Wayback Machine yet for anything that might have predated the example ban?

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

July 16, 2017 is the last record the Wayback Machine has before the examples got disappeared.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

It's not the first time the examples were removed; there was an earlier set that were excised in early 2012, and that's the one we have to use because of the license issues anyway. I just grabbed a copy -- and honestly, it's a better set than the wall-of-text examples from 2017, where there's frequently just a band name and dozens of song titles.

Converting raw TVT source to MediaWiki is not a quick or simple thing -- it's not easily automated and instead needs a lot of human eyeballing. So it won't be happening too quickly, but I will eventually get it marked up and posted.

EDIT: Assuming no one objects. This thread petered out four months ago with a general half-hearted "I suppose, yeah, why not?" kind of attitude, but if anyone thinks we shouldn't restore the examples, well, now is the time to say so before I spend N days converting the example list.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

No objection here. I was the one who kicked off the discussion, with a strong implication that maybe there should be a list of examples in order to be consistent.

EDIT: I see that Kenny Loggins's "Danger Zone" isn't on the 2012 TVT list, so there's the first addition we can make to the list.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Feel free to add it, now that I've restored the examples.
