New layout test

I'm testing putting two images for the same character for this page. This is useful for a number of reasons, like showing a younger character vs them as their older self. In this page, I'm showing a regular character vs her shapeshifted form. Scroll down to the "Atsuko Kagari" section to see what I mean.

I've never seen another character page on ATT do the same, so obviously this is a huge change. As with any other big changes, this requires community consensus. What do you guys think of this layout?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

We've done it on RWBY/Characters because of how the look and usual outfit of the main characters have evolved over the years.

When I posted this, a small part of me knew there is some page that I missed...

Looks like we're just listing the images one after another, without any float: right markup over there. I suggest we do this throughout all areas of the wiki instead of wrapping the two images around a div.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

May as well be consistent.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

I'm just an autopatrolled user, I don't know why I would be needed but okay.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

If I had to give an opinion, it's okay. But you should ask admins or bureaucrats.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

While we don't usually do this on character pages, we have done it on creator pages when a creator has a very long career, so there's that precedent. I like it.

I've wrapped the two images in a "float" div-pair so that they'll stay together even if a long paragraph would normally split them apart - a bit of planning for the future.

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

I've noticed on mobile images floated right aren't aligned with other images, which are centred. It's one of the reasons why I chose to list the images instead of floating them to the right and using tabber.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

I've never seen the show, so I have to recuse. Sorry.

Kuma (talkcontribs)

I guess it looks okay but can't you make the image collapse the image to make her original form the focus and her mouse form as an option?

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

Before I did this I used tabber with <div> tags so you can choose which image to see, with the default being Akko's regular appearance. You can click to switch over to the mouse appearance. The problem is it causes alignment issues on mobile (the whole thing gets moved to the right instead of being centred). I also tried using the sidebarmenu template, but that cuts a bit of the image off. If anyone has any markup ideas that makes this work well both on PC and mobile, feel free to let me know.

It doesn't matter if people haven't seen the show. I'm only asking for opinions on how this page looks.

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

Looks fine to me on PC, but I don't come here on mobile, so I can't say about there.

Should we move this to the franchise page?

If we move this to the generic Little Witch Academia page, we can discuss characters more in depth. I can compare / contrast characters across different instalments, and add tropes related in other instalments. Most characters remain the exact same across the different instalments, bar the occasional Adaptational Personality Adjustment, so the tropes should still be relevant even if we move it.

The disadvantage is that statements like "episode 3" have to be replaced with "episode 3 of the series", which is tedious... or we can just add a generic "text like episode 3 refer specifically to episode 3 of the series".

Are the characters the same across all versions of the story? If they're like Black Butler and have a large number of differences between story versions, then I'd suggest keeping the character pages separate. If they're like Sailor Moon and the similarities outnumber the differences between manga and anime versions, then it's a coin-toss. And if they're like A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun and they're the same characters across all media, then putting them in a shared character sheet makes sense.

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

90% of character traits remain the same. I've listed most of the differences on the Adaptational Personality Adjustment trope, which features changes with three characters out of nine.

The similarities does outnumber the differences. We're in coin toss territory.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

In that case, I'd toss the coin to land on "shares a sheet".

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

Same. My proposal is to move this to the central franchise page and make a "episode numbers refer to the episodes of the 2017 series" note.
