I'm more interested in how it's lasted a whole decade on this site without anyone noticing. The earliest edit says "Imported from TVT"; I checked TVT, it doesn't even have a Trope with that name.

Yeah, at that name there is this:

Note: This page was cut for reason: Unindexed, and is doubtfully tropeworthy besides. [Theatre_Maven_3695]

Looking at the Wayback Machine, it lasted in the form we have until at least late 2016. Somewhere in the last week of February 2017 they had offloaded the list into the analysis subpage, and like I suggested below, reworked the five paragraphs into a trope description. However, it then got cut at some point between Mid-March and early November 2017. So it actually lasted a fair amount of time there as well.

I suspect this should be a Useful Note, as it is basically a list of real-world info.

As far as a description goes, there actually is one -- five very short paragraphs between the list and the examples:

If you are from another country, please feel free to put in your stereotypes.
In any case, there are lots of variations on stereotypes. Not all stereotypes are bad, and not all of them are entirely inaccurate (or defamatory). But they can offend people.
This trope is about any kind of way that media tries to make the "other side" look bad.

If a negative stereotype was created just to make the hero look good, or his views seem right, then it is a Strawman Political.

That could be rearranged a bit and moved to the top of the page.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

It may be simply too broad. All of the Tropes under The War on Straw would likely fit to a degree.

Haggishunter (talkcontribs)

Well spotted. I found the page earlier today and managed not to even notice that description / comment.

I was looking for an equivalent to "Strawman Political", which at the moment redirects to "Straw Character" - so that sentence needs reworking/removing.

I think the page will work as a "useful note", maybe with a reminder about the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgement.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

See my reply above. "Strawman Political" is a large set of individual tropes that fall under The War on Straw.

Okay, since no one has commented further in nearly two weeks, I've reassigned the page to Useful Notes, pulled the descriptive text out of the middle and put it at the top, and did some other minor editing/reorg. If anyone wants to tweak this further, feel free.
