Because (as discussed here) "Eskimo" is a racial slur. What do we want to rename this page to?
Talk:Reindeer Aren't Real
The Trope name came from an episode of ''The Simpsons'' where Homer said to Lisa, "Aw, honey, vampires are make believe! Just like elves and leprechauns and Eskimos!" Naturally, this was to show how dumb Homer was, especially since this was a Halloween episode with actual vampires.
Seeing as the entire Trope is generally used to mock someone's stupidity, I see no reason to actually change it, so long as that intent is made clear.
We don't mock racism by using a slur, though - we don't have N-Word Privileges.
Similarly, we don't have E-Word Privileges.
And if you're looking for a quote from an animated TV show to use as a trope name, we could use "Reindeer Aren't Real" instead.
I'd be fine with that.
I'm in a similar boat - per the comment I just made on the original thread, while I don't have much personal incentive to change it, I wouldn't necessarily object at the same time.
…and then remove all instances of "Fredo". And then remove all common words salon com proclaims fashionable for being triggereded about, one by one. =D
Witty And Mature™ commentary there, totally not a show of bad faith.
If people have actually protested more than once about the words being applied to them, yes, as per Rule 1 of All The Tropes:Terms of Service.
