Deverish Also

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Deverish Also is a fantasy adventure webcomic about what happens when magic and technology collide.

Finn is your average electrical engineer, until one day he’s sent on a quest...to find a part in a remote warehouse. Once there, he discovers a mysterious device that had been left running for years, and then accidentally triggers it. Now in a alternate world, Finn is on a real adventure in a land where magic rules with a van full of his own world’s technology.

Finn is met by the sorceress Nara and her traveling companion, an unwilling knight named Kuroraki. They are determined to unlock Finn’s secrets and his relation to another person from his world who has been terrorizing the land.

The comic is found here. It updates almost every Tuesday.

Tropes used in Deverish Also include:
  • The Archmage: Raezinus.
  • Asleep for Days: Not stated outright, but strongly implied. Finn was in the other world for three days tops, plus one period of unconsciousness after a mage blasted him, yet he found out the day he woke up that he's been there for a week.
  • Black Magician Girl: Raych and Nara. Especially Raych.
  • Blessed with Suck: Kuroraki's armor gives him a Healing Factor, allowing him to instantly recover from being stabbed...but the reason he gets stabbed is because people keep trying to mug him and steal his super-valuable Unobtainium armor.
  • Clingy Costume: Kuroraki's armor is supposed to repair itself, but the magic went wrong and now it seals itself instead.
  • Collector of the Strange: Raezinus.
  • Contemplate Our Navels: Finn tends to do this when the new world gets too confusing and unpleasant.

Finn: No. I'm just gonna sit here...in this chair...in these smelly robes...until tomorrow.

  • Cool Gate: The portal to the other world.
  • Cool Old Guy: Raezinus is Really Seven Hundred Years Old, and he certainly is cool.
  • Deadly Dodging: Nara deflects an enemy's blasting-spell...right into Finn. Oops.
  • Death Seeker: Kuroraki is determined to be free of his cursed armor, even if the only currently available means of doing so is for Raezinus to kill him. Raezinus thinks he can find a better way eventually, but Kuroraki isn't exactly the patient type.
  • Every Man: Finn. He's an ordinary electrical engineer who accidentally activated a Cool Gate stored in a company warehouse.
  • Fish Out of Temporal Water: Really it's a different universe rather than a different time, but there's enough Medieval Stasis that it counts.
  • Happy Fun Ball: The electric drill.

Raezinus: [clutching his nose] Ow ow ow...vicious little thing can turn on you at any moment, can't it?
Nara: Serves you right for taunting it.

  • Sued for Superheroics: Finn vanished with a company van and a whole bunch of warehouse inventory, and the warehouse itself was leveled. The Earth police and company staff aren't exactly pleased with him.
  • Kawaiiko: Raych.
  • Lampshade Hanging: The portal's appearance.

It looked like a prop from a bad B-grade sci-fi movie, complete with cheesy bolts of lightning.

Let the following be a reminder: always read the dialog box before clicking 'yes'.

  • This Is My Boomstick: Presumably the cause of Rekoran's success.
  • Too Much Information: Finn's reaction when he was told that healing him involved a transfusion of Raezinus' blood.
    • And when he found out that when he was Asleep for Days, Raezinus loaned him his bed but didn't stop sleeping in it.
  • Translator Microbes: The dialect-indoctrination spell. Unusually, it's not perfect: you can only understand one language at a time, you can only learn a new language by having a mage who speaks that language cast it on you, and if the mage blunders it can leave you unable to use your original languages unless a more powerful mage finishes the job.
  • Winged Humanoid: Kuroraki, although that may be an artifact of his armor.
  • Worthless Yellow Rocks: People in the other world refer to aluminum as "litesilver", and value it as Unobtainium. We use it for soda cans.
    • Also, Raezinus pays for stuff with dragon scales, presumably his own.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Finn and Nara have blue and purple hair respectively.
