Devil May Dance
Devil May Dance is a Crossover fan doujinshi between Devil May Cry and Space Channel 5. Starring the protagonists of both games, Dante and Ulala, Devil May Dance features a plot that sees DMC's Mundus strikes a deal with Chief Blank, Space Channel 5's villain, to ensure their plans are not foiled by the other protagonists. Falling victim to 'soul swappers', Ulala and Dante's souls are swapped into each other's bodies, and therefore, each other's adventure.
Devil May Dance has been on-going since 2006 and is very well written. Full of laughs, a great representation of both games's universes and nicely drawn, it can't come highly recommended enough. It also needs more love. Currently[when?] up to 9 chapters.
- Alternative Univereses: Mundus witnessed Ulala and Dante's triumphs in these. In the 'real universe', Space Channel 5 is called Space Channel 6, and Devil May Cry is called Devil May Dance.
- Calling Your Attacks: Dante has to do this, else he will lose. For Ulala, it's more a force of habit due to her world.
- Dancing Theme
- Dance Battler: Too many to count. Space Channel 5 is involved, after all.
- Foreshadowing: The first chapter's cover makes a lot more sense at the end of Chapter 9.
- Item Farming: Hilariously lampshaded by Trish when Ulala discovers the red orbs she's been gathering can be used to learn new attacks.
"Such skill! Such...persistance. Such...blatant orb farming." |
- Oh Crap: Ulala gets one when Phantom takes out her whole entourage and Nevan.
- Panty Shot: Averted. Although Ulala got a ton of these in her game, when Cam-B attempts this on Dante, he ends up getting kicked in the lens.
- Precision F-Strike: Ulala pulls one of these. Justified in that she gets stabbed with a sword through her torso.
- Shout-Out: Where to start?
- Helena and Johnny appear in Chapter 0 as judges for Ulala and Dante's dance.
- Numerous variations of DDR arcade machines cameo during Chapter 0 and Dante's training montage.
- Dante gets forced into a costume changing montage. All but one of them are from various video games, including Princess Peach, Chun Li and Ivy. The one not from a video game is Princess Leia.
- Parappa appears during Dante's training montage. He even asks Dante "What'choo gotta do?" Dante responds with "I gotta believe!"
- Dante does eventually get a male outfit during the end of the training montage. It's an Elite Beat Agent suit!
- One of the fights has Ulala and her entourage of DMC baddies fight against the Blades and Griffon in the style of The World Ends With You's battle system. They even unleash a Fusion Attack!
- "Ulala used Stinger! It's super effective!"
- The Pollyanna: Ulala has shades of this. Her reaction when she figures out she has been body swapped is surprisingly cheerful.
- Though when she meets Dante through the portal she is sure to remind him that her career is at stake.
- Wham! Episode: The latest page as of this edit. As any Space Channel 5 fan will tell you, that's not what Blank's dimension looks like, implying that Mundas is the Man Behind the Man...or something even worse.
