I Wanna Be the Boshy

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

I Wanna be the Boshy is a IWBTG fangame made by Solgryn using MMF 2.

This game is notable for having Gratuitous Swearing, lagging horribly on certain computers, a co-op mode, and visually stunning graphics.

You play as Boshy (named after Boshy of Boshytime, a gaming stream that at some point streamed IWBTG), a yellow triangle with an Exclamation mark on it wielding a gun. Of course, you don't have to play as Boshy throughout the entire game, as you can play as other characters, such as Pedobear, Ness, The Kid, and more.

Naturally, there are a few references to the source of Boshy such as restarting from a save cuing a soundclip of "It's Boshy time!", the death sound clips are all Boshy quotes, and secret area modeled after the Justin.tv streams where you can fight the site's infamous Kappa emoticon and then unlock it as a playable character.

The game is quite fun, but lives up to the Nintendo Hard standards of all the other I Wanna Be the Guy fangames out there.

Tropes used in I Wanna Be the Boshy include:

Being a fangame, most of the tropes from I Wanna Be the Guy are present as well (but more so), including Nintendo Hard, One-Hit-Point Wonder, Platform Hell, Trial and Error Gameplay, Spikes of Doom and the like.

  • Advancing Boss of Doom: Mega Man's final phase involves him turning giant and trying to run you over.
  • Advancing Wall of Doom: With spikes.
  • AI Roulette: Missing No chooses the moves it uses at random, with a few exceptions. It always uses Sand Attack after confusion, and never uses a move twice in a row.
  • Back Tracking: Subverted. There's no need to backtrack unless you want to hunt all the treasures in the game, and even then, it's even easier thanks to the warp capsules that take you to the The Nexus.
  • Badass: When choosing difficulty, the game flat out tells you that if you play it on EZ-Mode, then you cannot truly become the Boshy.
    • "I defeated The Guy" works well in real life, when you're among people who are familiar with the game. The higher the difficulty, the more badass the boast.
  • Bait and Switch Boss: The King De-De-De. It's not so much as a boss, as it's more of a Do-what-i-do kind of thing. After beating him, he's killed by Meta Knight, who is then Hadoken'd by Ryu, who's the true boss for that level.
  • Black Bead Eyes: Some of the characters you can play as. Such as Pedobear.
  • Blatant Lies: Good Level Design here! The entrance to the infamous spike room in the Megaman area.
  • Brick Joke: In one screen you can clearly see the moon. Several later, it falls and tries to flatten you.
  • Brutal Bonus Level: Averted. The bonus worlds are extremely short and just there to transfer to the boss. Sometimes the world doesn't even have a boss.
  • Bullet Hell: Most of the bosses of this game tend to do this.
  • Butt Monkey: Your character. And Boshy.
  • Chest Monster: All the save points are this. The moment you save, it says "Fuck you!" and spits out the bullet you shot at it. It's fairly easy to dodge, but considering the difficulty of this game, you probably wouldn't mind it killing you after you save. Since ya' know, you saved.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: the Save Points.
    • This could be said for anyone who loses their patience.
  • Collision Damage
  • Creator Cameo: Solgryn himself is the final boss... as a giant box of Danish oatmeal. Yeah.
  • Death Course: The whole game, basically.
  • Death Is Cheap: Usually.
  • Death World: A game like this can only take place in one.
  • Depth Perplexion: As in tradition to Platform Hell genre, it's intentional.
  • Easy Mode Mockery: EZ-Mode does have the heart blocks, which makes it slightly easier to get through some rooms... all while your character and the bosses have a Pink bow on them.
  • Guide Dang It: One screen requires you to do a walljump, then slide along the ground to maintain your extra speed for the next few screens. Absolutely nowhere is it hinted that walljumping works this way.
  • Harder Than Harder: You-Gonna-Get-Raped mode, which takes away all the save points in between each level, and makes the bosses have more health and they in turn become even more tougher to kill. If it's anything that makes this game truly hard, it has to be the bosses.
  • Hitbox Dissonance: Every character, to different extents. Ryu takes the cake, not being downsized from his appearance as a boss at all.
  • Interface Screw: Every now and then there's a room that would be perfectly normal, except that the screen is flipping upside down and back, rotating, or having a seizure.
  • Joke Character: Ryu has a very confusing hitbox, a somewhat worse jump than other characters, and he can't even hit some of the save points because his shot is fired higher up than every other character. And yet...
    • Lethal Joke Character: Ryu can absolutely decimate some bosses, getting far more hits landed than any other characters are capable of.
  • Jump Scare: The aptly-named "Ear Rape Spider", which just loves to burst in on you with a loud roar whenever you stop expecting it.
  • Kaizo Trap: Almost every boss does something after their life bar is emptied, ranging from one final attack to an entire extra pattern to go through.
  • Let's Play: A blind one which is currently ongoing, by InvisibleGunslinger1.
  • Loads and Loads of Characters: 70 playable characters to choose from, and that's not even getting into the character creator.
  • Shout-Out: Being an I Wanna Be The Guy game, almost everything is a reference to some form of media.
  • Tactical Suicide Boss: When the final boss starts its second attack pattern, it gains a barrier that can only be disrupted by its own bullets. Cue the bullets that fly towards your current position, as opposed to away from the boss.
  • Unskippable Cutscenes: Thankfully averted.
  • Wall Jump: Can only be done off of special walls. Two different kinds, actually, resulting in two different kinds of Wall Jump.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: When you fight Missingno. Particularly when it uses Splash, and it says nothing happened... except a tidal wave coming up from below to kill you.

It's BOSHY time!
