Is amnesia a disqualifier?

If an amnesiac character keeps their skills (even if they don't necessarily know they have them) can they be an example of this trope?

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

Not really sure. You mean something like Jason Bourne?

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I would think that as long as he has access to his experience, whether he remembers it or not, it counts. (And obviously, if he's forgotten and can't use his experience, he isn't an experienced protagonist.)

Lequinni (talkcontribs)

In my opinion, Amnesia does work as disqualifier for this trope, because in my opinion experience is a thing that you access consciously. The character can access to the abilities and use it instinctually, buy if they don't know how they acquired those abilities, nor can extrapolate from previous experience to solve the current ones, are they really experienced? For narrative purposes, they aren't really, that's just Amnesiac Dissonance, which is fun but not this trope.

This is what I love to see in the Workshop -- a well-written candidate with a good (but not overwhelming) number of examples, almost ready to go out the door as soon as it comes in. I've done an edit pass, added an example, a page quote and categories. I actually think this is launchable. Soliciting other opinions.

In all frankness, I was standing on the shoulders of giants with this one... but thanks?

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Yeah, I'd say this has turned a nice golden brown.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Looks good to me, I'll vote "Aye".

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

And counting me, that's three votes to launch... but maybe I ought to wait longer than an hour. <grin>

Jlaw (talkcontribs)

Let's launch it; added a few more entries

RivetVermin (talkcontribs)

Looks great!

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Five votes to launch, and it's been a day since the question was asked. Launching this one.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Launched and entry-pimped.
