I know it's poor form, but... call for launch

Yeah, I think the only thing holding it back was a concern about the page image. Forget about the page image, launch it.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Works for me, vote to launch.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Sounds good.

Lequinni (talkcontribs)

Launch it.

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

Yes, launchable.

Jlaw (talkcontribs)

Vote to launch and push the baby bird out to fly

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Launched.

Almost launchable, I think

As I type this, the trope candidate has 17 examples and four categories in addition to the default ones.

The description is sparse, but serviceable.

The image, though, is JAFAAC. I think it's iconic enough to work, but I know that I think differently from most other people...

Do we need a different image on this one, or can I request a vote? (Fair disclosure: I wrote the first draft of the trope candidate.)

No, like you said, I think it's iconic and certainly well-known enough to serve.

Although we could always switch it out for Darph Nader destroying the peaceful planet Basketball in Hardware Wars, if you really want. <grin>

This is a supertorpe to Doomsday Device, in that a Planet Killer can be a natural event or a person. Doctor Manhattan from Watchmen, for example, is a Planet Killer but not a Doomsday Device.

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

Maybe add a second panel that shows Alderaan's destruction?

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

I'm thinking that an "Alderaan's destruction" image belongs on an Image Links subpage of Earth-Shattering Kaboom, not here. After all, the point to having this as a separate trope is to separate the cause and the effect.

"Context" tags on a brand-new trope candidate

Yes, I know that I should already know everything about an example that I put on a brand-new trope candidate page. In this case, the examples are from pages that already link to "Planet Killer" and have linked there since before we forked from TVT. Thus, I have no idea how they're examples of the trope, and I doubt whoever added them to the wiki over a decade ago is around to ask.

But just because I don't know doesn't stop somebody else from knowing...
