Tabletop gaming

You seem to be fairly into TTRPGs, how often do you discuss them?

Also wondering if you know your tabletop well enough to contribute to Mirror Mook - I've got more than enough examples, but would really like some that aren't video-game based.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Not sure what you mean by "discuss them", although I am a big fan and have written a few fanfics with Urban Fantasy themes.

I'll check out Mirror Mook; not familiar with that Trope, but if it's what I think it is, I might know a few examples.

A bit of advice for you

I've noticed that you've been massively overcoding/potholing some of your links. For instance, I came across this just a moment ago on A Nazi by Any Other Name:

[[The Human Centipede|''The Human Centipede'']]

This is way more than is necessary. All you have to do is this:

''[[The Human Centipede]]''

There is nothing that the former does that the latter doesn't do, in fewer keystrokes. Save yourself the effort -- and save the mods the effort of cleaning up after you, because we are going to change it anyway -- code it the simpler way.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

That's a quirk of how changes made in the visual editor are converted to code when saving or switching to Source mode - not at all Henery's fault or anyone's, as I'm sure you've discovered. I figured as much when I started spotting this and thought it'd be no big deal to make the necessary adjustments myself.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Sorry, the new editing system is hard to get used to.

I think I wrote the name of the work, then used the link icon. Or something.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Yeah, I noticed that somehow the optional visual editing got turned on for me, too. If you want to shut it off and do source editing only (which is what I prefer), go to "Preferences" in the menu next to your user name at the top of the page, go the the "Beta Features" tab, and turn off "Visual Editing" by unchecking it and saving. If for some reason it's already unchecked (it was for me), check it, save, then uncheck and save. That should do it.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Ah, thanks.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

You can also just click the "Edit source" option that should show up next to "Edit" at the top of the page - I personally like to go between the two when it isn't too much trouble, though I save any link italicizing for Source Mode.

I don't think that means what you think it means...

I see that you added Red Baron to the trope list for Wild Wild West (film). I've seen the movie - once - but I don't remember seeing Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen appear anywhere in it. Are you sure you have the right entry (especially considering that a person is not a trope)?

Remember, All The Tropes is not TV Tropes - we pay attention to dictionary definitions, and rename tropes that had esoteric names wherever necessary.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Red Baron is indeed a Trope. It's a nickname for a person so Badass and so feared that he has a nickname that sounds Badass. Richthofen is the Trope Namer for it. There is no page that details Richthofen himself that I am aware of.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Check that, the name of the Trope has been changed, I'll go fix it.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

There is a page on All The Tropes that details Richthofen - I added an "appearances in fiction" list to it a couple of years ago. That page is called Red Baron.

The trope that you just described is called Sobriquet, after the word in the dictionary that has that definition.

EDIT: Looks like we posted at the same time.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Lol, it happens.

Automatic Moderation

Hello HeneryVII!

As a result of the Great Miraheze Spam Flood that affected multiple wikis in December 2020, we have instituted moderation of posts. Most people's edits and image uploads will not appear immediately, the way that they would on Wikipedia... but, now, yours will - no more waiting for a moderator to approve your edits.

This is a privilege given for consistently good edits and being a Troper in good standing, not a right. Congratulations!

The link in your edit to "Take That, Critics!"

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Hello! I see that you added an example to the Comic Books section of Take That, Critics! today. It looks like a good example to me, except for one thing - the link in it for "This scene with Ant Man and Wasp" goes to the Comic Books section of Take That, Critics!

Do you still have the link to where you intended to send folks?

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Sorry about that, it's fixed now. Think I may have used paste instead of copy or something.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

No worries - it happens to everybody. Thanks for the quick update!

Full-Frontal Assault submission

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

The recent submission to this Trope pointed out old illustrations depicting partially-nude goddesses in old rulebooks. Since the Trope is about characters who fight while naked, I'm not sure if those examples count, even if they could be interpreted as Action Girl types; in fact, the illustration of Lovitar seems to depict her in her throne room or audience chamber. While this example might fit, say, Shameless Fanservice Girl, I don't think this is the right Trope, but I thought I'd clear it here first.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

No, you're right. I put those on the wrong page. Do feel free to relocate them if I don't get it first.

Next time, could you use the subpage template and save everybody (including yourself) some work, please?

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Thanks, sorry.

I worked on this Trope a couple months ago; exactly what else does it need? I expanded the description by about two paragraphs.
