Hey. I noticed how you changed the work name in that Trope from "How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord" to "How not to Summon a Demon Lord"

I wanted to point out that in the English dub of the Light Novel and Anime, the actual title does indeed have the word "not" in all caps.

See?

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Interesting, because Wikipedia doesn't have it in all caps. w:How Not to Summon a Demon Lord

Tie-breaking round! What does Crunchyroll say? (I don't have an account, so I can't check myself.)

Was wondering if you could respond to this still outstanding issue

I just did a whole bunch of unnecessary category changes to all our Heinlein pages because I forgot the new book infobox adds an "works by <author>" category automatically. I hope I didn't make any extra work for you.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

No worries. I'll catch them when I do Category:Science Fiction Literature

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

I forgot to exclude the FANDOM templates from the import of pages I worked on more there and they accidently overwrote the ones here, that was my mistake and I apologize.

U do good editing!

Historical Revisionism

8
Christianbethel (talkcontribs)

Hello! My name is Christian Bethel and I am coming here on this wiki from TV Tropes. I was repeatedly banned for false accusations of 'hate speech' when I requested sources for their pages about Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. You see, I am studying to become a historical revisionist, and as such we seek to examine and revise official narratives of historical events. I primarily focus on WWII and the Holocaust, which has led me to be slandered as a 'Holocaust denier'. This is not true, as I know the Holocaust happened. What I'm trying to say is this: will I get banned for asking for sources on the Nazis/WWII/The Holocaust or for posting the results of my research on this wiki? I only use primary sources and secondary sources that only use primary sources. I heard there was less censorship than TV Tropes so I thought I would contact an admin before I started posting. I only want to show people that sometimes mainstream historians don't always communicate the true account of historical events, and, as the saying goes, 'history is written by the victors'. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Hello!

That's an intriguing question that I don't have a hard-and-fast answer for. We do have less censorship that TV Tropes, but that doesn't mean "no censorship" - we're still bound by the laws of the countries that host our servers.

Since you've expressed an interest in the matter, I encourage you to read our page All The Tropes:How We Do Bans Around Here - it has lists of cases where we issue warnings, issue temporary bans, or issue permanent bans. Unless you break the law, you have to work to get a permanent ban.

One thing to keep in mind is that the purpose of All The Tropes is to catalogue and discuss the building-blocks of stories - what they are, how to identify them, and how to put them together into your own stories. Discussions of historical matters go over better here when they're about how to write historical fiction.

You might get some pushback if you ask for sources - I got some pushback when I asked for sources on more recent political issues last year.

And now I'll invite the other mods to offer their opinions on the matter: @Labster @Looney Toons @GethN7 @QuestionableSanity @Derivative @SelfCloak

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

One more thing: If you're going to ask for sources, you should also be prepared when people ask you for sources.

Christianbethel (talkcontribs)

I will! I'm not here to celebrate attempts at genocide or war crimes, I'm just here to try and present the truth- nothing more, nothing less. I am fully prepared to provide any and all sources I use.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

As the resident history nut around here, here's my take.

If you want a purely history oriented forum, try these guys, they discuss a lot of that stuff:

https://historum.com/history-forums/

If you want to discuss the sources of various claims, well, given this is historical datum on our history pages and we discuss these historical topics as they are often mined for use in fiction, then insofar as your inquiry in that regard makes our pages better, ask away. If you want to discuss these topics solely on historical grounds only, try that forum I linked.

I hope that answers your questions. If you want to discuss these matters with a fellow history scholar at further length off-forum, let me know via my email (see our contact page to find it) and ask me for either Steam or Discord, whichever you find more comfortable, and I'll be happy to accommodate you.

Christianbethel (talkcontribs)

Thank you. Am I allowed to make edits to certain historical pages that I discover from my revisionist research as long as I have verifiable sources? For instance, I want to make an edit on Hitler's page saying he truly admired Islam and the Arab race. If I can provide a verifiable source, will you allow me to post historical content like this? I'm sure it would help someone trying to write a novel or design a videogame.

Newspaper Comics by Decade

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

Do you think the template might be worth a rename at some point, given that it encompasses basically every form of comic now rather than just newspaper-based ones?

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

That's a good question. It has the same name as the standard section header on Trope pages - changing it would involve changing quite a few other things at the same time.

Edit Pass for Potent Pheromones

Kuma (talkcontribs)

I wish to request an edit pass for the trope workshop page of Potent Pheromones. Since my first request, I have waited a month. I didn't want to contact the mods directly; thus, I apologize for the inconvenience this message may cause you all. I have made one more edit to the page, and I believe it is ready for a pass. If you do not think this is true, then please reply with an answer. Thank you for reading my message, and have a fabulous day.@GethN7@SelfCloak@Labster@QuestionableSanity@Derivative

Yeah, the page has medium sections, but I don't think examples within them properly. I would've gotten to it and demonstrated more what I meant, but it clearly fell to the wayside (christ, a whole 4 weeks?), so that's my b on that.

Yet Another Silly Question

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

I bet you and LT are sick of me by now but:

What would be the proper licensing for this image? It's a screenshot from this NetHack Wiki article and I wasn't sure how exactly one would handle this.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Quoting from that wiki's About page:

Likewise, this wiki is free documentation: the text of the GNU Free Documentation License provides that each NetHackWiki page gives everyone "the effective freedom to copy and redistribute it, with or without modifying it, either commercially or noncommercially."

So there's the license. We don't have a predefined license template for the GNU Free Documentation License, so use {{Other free}} and provide the link after that template.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

Okey doke.
