* Development Hell: The movie. Talk of an adaptation started in 2006, with the current release being a decade later. The plot flip-flopped between being about the First War to being set just prior to World of Warcraft (the reason cited being that the popularity of the franchise was from the MMO, not the RTS'). Sam Raimi was originally supposed to direct, but the project was put off so that Raimi could focus on other films. He eventually left, citing mismanagement on Blizzard's part who had vetoed most of his pre-production work. It was not until 2013 that the movie was finally Saved From Development Hell.

Illidan: "Wings, Horns, Hooves, what should I say, is this Diablo?<br />
** Warcraft III:
Gryphon Rider: "This warhammer cost me 40K!"<br />
*** Both the Burning Legion and Goblins were originally intended in Warcraft III to be a playable faction. Remnants of this can be found in the map editor.
My favourite colour is blue. No! Yelloooooooooo..." }}
*** The original version of the Scourge, as envisioned, would use corpses as resources instead of gold. You'd kill creeps instead of mining. This was too hard to balance though.
** Blizzard also likes using shoutouts for cheat codes, such as thereisnospoon, keysersoze, greedisgood and the aforementioned allyourbasearebelongtous.
*** At early stages of development, Jaina was intended to be killed by Kel'Thuzad in Arthas's campaign, providing Arthas with additional motivation to pursue Mal'Ganis, and later to be ressurected by Arthas as banshee. However, this was scraped because it was too simular to Sarah Kerrighan's storyline from Starcraft I and, after everything Mal'Ganis did, Arthas didn't need any additional motivation. Meanwhile, the role of the first Banshee was given to Sylvanas.
** The final chapter in Frozen Thrones Undead campaign is called A Symphony of Frost and Flame.
** The cancelled Lord of the Clans was going to feature Alexstrasza as a Manipulative Bitch.
** When a Mortar Team is constructed, their announcement line is "MORTAAAAAAAR KOOOOOOMBAAAAAT!"
** Two villagers called Robert and Tyler are seen boxing in the first mission of the undead campaign.
** And this isn't counting the countless pop culture references found throughout the games. It'd be too much work to list them all. Seriously, there's a ton, take our word for it.

  • The America-based Russian monkeys behind the animated cutscenes of The Legend of Zelda CDI Games and I.M. Meen, Animation Magic, were some time later contracted to do the animation for the Warcraft spin-off Warcraft Adventures. Said game was later cancelled due to the popularity decline of adventure games at the time but still, there's no denying that of all people, Blizzard hired the staff responsible for some of the single most laughable scenes in video game history.
  • Development Hell: The movie.
  • Fan Nickname: "Lord Boxhead" for Darius Crowley due to his model in the early Cataclysm beta.
  • Hey, It's That Voice!: Uther the Lightbringer is Deckard Cain and Tassadar! Maiev Shadowsong is Meryl from Metal Gear Solid! And many, many more!
  • The Other Darrin: Arthas the Lich King has now gone from Justin Gross to Patrick Seitz and Michael McConnohie.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Warcraft I:
      • The original game was originally intended as a Warhammer Fantasy adaption, but Games Workshop cancelled the contract with Blizzard at a point where the game was far enough in production that Blizzard decided to change the name and release it anyways.
    • Warcraft III:
      • Both the Burning Legion and Goblins were originally intended in Warcraft III to be a playable faction. Remnants of this can be found in the map editor.
      • The original version of the Scourge, as envisioned, would use corpses as resources instead of gold. You'd kill creeps instead of mining. This was too hard to balance though.
      • At early stages of development, Jaina was intended to be killed by Kel'Thuzad in Arthas's campaign, providing Arthas with additional motivation to pursue Mal'Ganis, and later to be ressurected by Arthas as banshee. • The cancelled Lord of the Clans was going to feature Alexstrasza as a Manipulative Bitch.
