Fantasy Strike

A fantasy world created by game designer David Sirlin for the three of his designed and self-created board games.
The name "Fantasy Strike" is the name of both the universe and the Olympic-style fighting tournament (A Tournament Arc for the world, if you will) held in it. The tournament is used by it's host, the stone golem Garus Rook, to raise awareness of the villainies committed by the Flagstone government. This does ruffle their feathers a bit, but the tournament is hard to stop, thanks to the teleporting fortress of it's host.
The tournament currently[when?] holds ten competitors: Grave & Jaina Stormborne, their mentor Master Midori, the host of the tournament, Garus Rook, Rook's scientific adviser Max Geiger, Rook's artistic adviser Valerie Rose, a ninja student Setsuki Hiruki, an ageless diplomat Jefferson De Grey, a fishman shaman Argagarg Garg and a drinking, gambling panda Lum Bam-foo.
But there are more fighters on their way, some looking to enter the tournament, some with more sinister goals in mind.
The three games that use the Fantasy Strike world are Yomi (A card game that simulates a fighting game), Flash Duel (A card game that simulates the characters sparring) and Puzzle Strike (A card game (Noticing a trend here?) that simulates a dueling puzzle game).

- Arrogant Kung Fu Guy: Grave Stormborne, whose only interest is improving his own skills.
- Bomb-Throwing Anarchists: The Blood Guard in general, and Captain Zane in particular. Zane actually carries a pocket-sized bomb and uses it as a fighting move.
- Combat Pragmatist: Master Menelker, who is not squeamish about breaking bones or damaging his opponent's memories, even in practice bouts.
- Confusion Fu: Lum, the gambling panda, has shades of this in his fighting style. Using cartwheels as a form of attack, bashing enemies with his drinking gourd, throwing coins at his opponents are all natural parts of his fighting style.
- Fragile Speedster: Setsuki, the young ninja student. The ninja training has given her phenomenal reflexes and speed but it seems to have lacked the endurance training.
- Gradual Grinder: Argagarg, the water shaman, whose fighting style is based on the power of his bubble shield and life-sapping curse.
- Honor Before Reason: Quoting Master Midori, who mentors both Grave and Jaina: "Learning respect for others is as important as learning to fight honorably." This is the main disagreement between Midori and Menelker.
- Martial Arts and Crafts: Among the competitors there are the normal ninjas and martial artists. Then there are a watchmaker, a painter and a diplomat. All very well capable holding their ground against the other fighters.
- Martial Pacifist: The aforementioned Argagarg, who prefers talking to fighting. Does not stop him from entering the tournament and kicking ass.
- Mighty Glacier: Garus Rook, who practically is a block of living stone shaped like a human. A large human. He might not be the fastest guy around, but when he hits you, you stay hit. And when he piledrives you... Master Midori also has shades of this when he is in his normal human form. His dragon form turns him into a Lightning Bruiser.
- Mismatched Eyes: Valerie Rose, who has one blue eye and one green eye.
- Really Seven Hundred Years Old: Jefferson De Grey, a diplomat who once made a pact with 'the living night'. He looks a man in his forties, but is actually hundreds of years old.
- Playing with Fire: Grave's sister Jaina Stormborne, who has the personality to match.
- Stealth Mentor: Menelker, easily seen as a villain by his methods, is actually looking to raise the other fighters' skills so that he might have some challenge at last.
- Stealth Pun: Geiger's special ability allows him to throw an opponent whenever they attempt to block a Time Spiral move. In fighting game terms, this is a "tick throw."
