Summary by Goo Monster

Page now has an image with the character mentioned being depicted.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)
GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Either one would work. If you want, I could do the cropping and editing for you.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

I was thinking if we use the first link, we should use the top panel and the bottom panel with the caption "An advantage of being 137 cm tall[1]"

Or we could use the second one we could use the bottom panel with the caption "and thats terrible" <div class="references-small"

">
  1. [137 cm converted into imperial length here. I can figure this out later.]
GethN7 (talkcontribs)

We can use the whole 4 panels (cropped away from the rest of the page) if we need to.

Paper-Thin Disguise/Western Animation

Literally - with a paper bag. "?"

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

Does it count as a disguise if it doesn't even have a picture or something on it? Probably.

I think it's good enough. Partly because the caption is part of the work. More importantly, I think that the picture depicts the character's reaction in multiple ways:

  • The body language
  • the vertical lines
  • Many of the character's features are replicated a little lower than where they are shown more prominently (for example look a little under that smile.) I think that might suggest some sort of movement perhaps shaking or her quickly adopting a very upright (and likely stiff) posture.

That said, an image that clearly shows both a character's terror/despair to perceived great peril, and the peril itself, would probably be better.

TBeholder (talkcontribs)

It's a good pic, but the image itself say just "afraid" than "Eek!"

Even 5th panel here doesn't quite make it.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

Simply very afraid doesn't count?
Does the trope need to be a (or like a) eureka moment (In which the revelation is something along the lines of "I'm fucked")?

Or are you saying that the picture doesn't stand on it's own if we get rid of the words? The picture in Not Actually JAFAAC section wouldn't make sense for its page if we got rid of the words in the word bubble. Admittedly that trope is about accusation, which might almost require words. So I hope I'm not putting forward a false equivalence (and I also hope I'm using the phrase "false equivalence" right).

As for the possibility of using LOU GHASTLY Page 1. If we use the 4th panel in addition to the 5th one that might be suitable.
Is it a problem that it probably wouldn't count as example to people very familiar with the work? They don't seem significantly more afraid in the 5th panel than they do in the 3rd panel. Personally I don't think it matters because we use some of the same images as TVTropes on the pages in the Not Really an Example tab of this page .

I don't like the current image for the page. The trope is about a character's revelation of their very unfortunate circumstance(s). The current picture doesn't even show a character at all.

TBeholder (talkcontribs)

Indeed, it needs all 3.

  1. character
  2. reaction (the character doesn't just stand here, but immediately responds to an event)
  3. fear
Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Eh. It was just something I found and threw up there as being more entertaining than a white "pic needed" box. Feel free to drop it as soon as something more acceptable is agreed upon.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

I asked the LOU GHASTLY person if we could use panels 4 and 5. If yes, I'll put that up. If no, or he/she fails to respond after a while (I'm thinking 2 weeks), then I'll use the Tanya picture and keep the needs new image template.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

Is my Tanya suggestion a suitable replacement for current Anime and Manga sub-page image? I think the current image is fine. But my suggestion may or may not be better.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)
GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Unless TV Tropes has a better looking image, let's try the alternative and the quote you suggested.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

The image is down and the link is dead I don't remember which IPU image was used. Anyone here remember?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

The image is back up, and it's Michelangelo's "Creation of Adam" with the IPU instead of God.

I've saved a local copy in case it's needed.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

Doesn't look up to me. Also I should have figured out the picture based on the description, but I didn't think of it.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I originally meant that it was back up at the source; I didn't realize it still needed to be re-uploaded here. Now done.

One of them is kind of used for the Bunnies and Burrows page, so I selected the other one.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

I think the current image is a better fit.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

Okay, I've already uploaded the image , and I probably shouldn't have (yet). I think the image fits fine. But I want to know if you think we should crop the bottom half out.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

No, that's fine. I think it works perfectly if it's intact.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

Do you prefer it intact or are you indifferent? With my computer, if I hide the contents thing, then the image goes into the first, and maybe even second, example.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I prefer it intact. I think it loses something if it's cropped.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

Is it okay to use the entire comic page, or does that fall outside fair use?

TBeholder (talkcontribs)
  1. 2 and #3 would be enough, anyway.
Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

Is there some combination for the comic that would be suitable for Words Can Break My Bones? I think it would work as a whole, but if that is a fair use problem, is there a way to trim it down without it butchering it? I think for Words Can Break My Bones it wouldn't look butchered if we used the last 2 panels and got rid of the words in the last panel.
