Green Lantern: The Animated Series/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • And the Fandom Rejoiced:
    • Bruce Timm. That is all.
    • This sizzle reel from WonderCon 2012.
    • Saint Walker of the Blue Lanterns appearing in the show. Then the Blue Lantern battery came to him.
    • One word: Mogo.
  • Complete Monster: Atrocitus. Which is surprising compared to his comic incarnation that while he is the incarnation of rage, he isn't the incarnation of sadism. To the point where he's the one who engineered the civil war on Razer's homeworld AND killed his wife to turn him into a Red Lantern. Needless to say, Razer is somewhat annoyed upon discovering the latter.
    • Though it's worth to note that his Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds backstory is still canon in this version. It's just inadequate when faced with what he currently is.
    • The Anti-Monitor, the next Big Bad after Atrocitus, is an Omnicidal Maniac obsessed with nothing less than the obliteration of everything in the universe that isn't himself. Built to be a knowledge-gathering robot, the Anti-Monitor quickly realized his superiority to all life in the cosmos, and was banished to another dimension soon after his proclamation to destroy everything in his path. The Anti-Monitor proceeded to turn trillions of planets in this alternate dimension into antimatter which he then consumed to make himself stronger, and, though making a deal with the last remaining planet's population to not consume them should they build him a portal back to his own dimension, the Anti-Monitor drained their sun of nearly all its life before he left, ensuring that the planet would still die soon after he was gone. Once back in his home dimension, the Anti-Monitor reactivates the Manhunter robots across the universe and orders them to kill everything they see, and, when confronted by Hal Jordan, the Anti-Monitor tries to force him to watch as first his friends, then entire worlds, are consumed before him. Even when beaten, the Anti-Monitor desperately tries to strike a deal with Aya to assist her in her plans to destroy reality itself to save his own hide. A megalomaniac who couldn't stand anything living except himself, the Anti-Monitor's narcissism was only matched by his petty sadism.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Razer. Nothing else to say.
    • Even when his only appearance was a few seconds in a sizzle reel, fans adore Saint Walker. This became ever more apparent when he appeared in the show came off about seventeen times more badass then he's ever been in the comics while keeping his characterization completely intact.
  • Fan Dumb: Several fans considered the series Ruined FOREVER by complaining about the Red Lanterns not being bloodthirsty mindless berserkers like they were in the comic, forgetting that there have been many good superhero adaptations that took departures from the original comics, and that this would allow more Character Development.
  • Fridge Brilliance: In "Heir Apparent", it's easy to suspect Ragnar's plan to inherit a Green Lantern Ring had gone wrong when Kilowog's fake ring construct doesn't produce a uniform for him.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Razer
  • Magnificent Bastard: Atrocitus; it says something this guy was Dangerously Genre Savvy enough to Out Gambit Hal, who in this continuity is a very Genre Savvy and competent Guile Hero himself.
  • Moral Event Horizon: For Atrocitus, the reveal that he murdered Razer's wife to manipulate him into becoming a Red Lantern.
    • Ragnar crosses it twice: the first time by killing his planet's Green Lantern so he can get his ring and trying to do the same to Hal and Killowog when it fails, and a second time by ordering his own sister to be killed in "Regime Change" (though it fails, since she escaped).
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: Razaya for Razer/Aya
  • Tear Jerker:
    • From the premiere, Rev's Heroic Sacrifice.
    • Razer's backstory.
    • Razer reciting the Red Lantern oath on the verge of tears, due to the shame he feels on having to rely on his rage as a source of power.
    • Ganthet being banished from Oa.
    • Aya's Single Tear while being brainwashed by the Reds.
  • What an Idiot!: Yeah, go on, Ragnar, kill a Green Lantern in order to become one. His ring will surely judge you worthy for that...
