Skill Slot System/Playing With

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Basic Trope: The ability to assign skills to X number of slots after they've been learned/ assign Mons after they've been obtained.
  • Played Straight: The Hero of Legendia Prince Bob the Hero and the four Warriors Of Light And Darkness Princess Emily the Monk, Prince Charlie the Knight, Prince Dave the Black Mage, and Princess Alice the White Mage can use 200 Mons placed by their Famous Ancestors, the Precursor Heroes. They can have 4, later 7, at a time, and each one adds additional effects/abilities.
  • Exaggerated: The process also works for skills, and then you can mix and match later. Also, the enemies are Mecha-Mooks, so you can use the Five-Bad Band.
  • Inverted: When they change classes in the Job System, they can have all the classes skills and nothing else. When they change, they can't use anything else.
  • Justified: It's a failsafe their ancestors used, so they couldn't be consumed by the power. When they get the Last-Disc Magic Mons, they've proved they can handle the maximum of 7.
  • Subverted: Later, the whole system is dropped.
  • Double Subverted: And replaced with a stricter Skill Slot System.
  • Deconstructed: They can never be well-rounded, and become self-conscious about entering boss battles.
  • Reconstructed: They take out the first boss with ease, proving their judgment is good enough to use them properly.
  • Parodied: Barrier Change Bosses make fun of the heroes.
  • Lampshaded: "Man, I hate being able to only use 4 at a time..."
  • Averted: There's no skill slot-style thing in Tales Of Troperia.
  • Enforced: The writers are going for a Cliché Storm, so they used this.
  • Invoked: The failsafe is planted when a nemesis of the old group hijacks 10 Mons and is consumed by a black hole of power.
  • Defied: The Precursor Heroes change the way the Mons work.
  • Discussed: "Now, do I choose Magisplosion or Critical Condition Invigoration?"
  • Conversed: "Yeah, I always got stuck fighting the Five-Bad Band's Fusion Dance because of the system."
