• The Dev Team Thinks of Everything: A particularly hilarious example. In the modern variation on Green Hill Zone, a Crab enemy hitting you will cause it to dance happily at being able to hit him for the first time in twenty years.
  • Classic Sonic's idle animations includes one that has him pointing to the right. He even does this when facing left, except with his thumb instead of with his finger.
• Fan Nickname: The fire tornado in Classic Crisis City that drags the goal post away has been affectionately dubbed the Trollnado.
• Flip-Flop of God: A financial report confirmed that it would go to the Nintendo 3DS and PC... then it was disconfirmed in an update to said paper. Only for the 3DS version to be reconfirmed later.
  • And then the PC version was reconfirmed much later.
• Game Mod: A particularly epic one by a trio of programmers from Sonic Retro, who aim to port the day levels from Sonic Unleashed into the PC version.
  • And with the creation of utilities such as CPKREDIR and Sonic GMI, this game's on its way to becoming one of the most easily moddable games for the PC.
• Hey, It's That Voice!: this is the first Sonic game to feature worldwide voice acting. Let's take a look, will ya?
  • Italian voices:
    • Sonic is Ted Mosby as well as the second Luffy.
    • Eggman is Guldo.
    • Knuckles is Zoro.
  • English voices (carried over from Sonic Colors and Sonic Free Riders.)
    • Sonic is Chris Redfield as well as Ezio Auditore and several extras from Regular Show. He's also Deidara.
    • Tails is Sakura and C.C.
    • Eggman is voiced by Mike Pollock who has voiced him since Sonic X.
    • Shadow is Saix.
      • And Kisame
    • Amy is Diana.
    • Rouge is Kitana and Sawako. And Nanako.
    • In connection to the latter, Blaze and Omochao are Nodoka. As well as Keiko Yukimura and young Trunks.
    • Cream is Etna.
    • Silver is Axel and Raiden.
    • Knuckles is Roy Mustang.
    • Espio is Snow Villiers, Van Kleiss, and the second Greed.
• I Knew It!/Interface Spoiler: People looked at the Xbox 360 Avatar rewards for beating the game and speculated that Classic Eggman has a link to the Time Eater, since said Avatar parts are all patterned after Classic Eggman. They were right.
• Meaningful Release Date: The demo was made available on June 23, 2011, exactly 20 years after the first Sonic the Hedgehog was released. This is fitting, as it's a game about Sonic's history.
• No Export for You: The massive collector's edition set is exclusive to Europe and Australia.
  • And it was later revealed that Japan was getting an exclusive special 20th Anniversary set as well. 'Tis a sad year to be an American Sonic Fan...
• Shout-Out: One trailer with Perfect Chaos recreates the moment in the Sonic Adventure intro where he viciously opens his eye.
  • Likewise, the cutscene that plays prior to the fight with Shadow has Sonic and Shadow mimicking the opening cutscene that was added to Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.
• Talking to Himself: Quite literally with Classic and Modern Tails, who are both voiced by Kate Higgins. Averted in the Japanese version, where Classic Tails is voiced by Takuto Yoshinaga, while Ryo Hirohashi voices Modern Tails.
  • And both Eggmen.
• Urban Legend of Zelda: For a brief while, it was rumored that Classic Sonic is mute largely because they couldn't get Jaleel White to return to do his voice. It turns out that White was never approached by SEGA to voice Classic Sonic.
  • There was also a rumour of DLC stages being released. Apart from the Casino Night pinball minigame this was false.
• What Could Have Been: According to Word of God, they had hoped to make all acts playable by Classic and Modern Sonic alike. Indeed, it is possible to hack or glitch the game so that you can play Modern Sonic in Classic levels, viewed from a 3D perspective - the Classic levels look very unfinished when viewed in this way, however. The game reportedly crashes in various ways when attempting these hacks: e.g. when Classic Sonic trigger a rainbow loop, or when Modern Sonic doesn't stop after the Classic Finish Panel and fall through the level geometry... You can, at least, unlock the Modern Sonic homing attack, à-la-Sonic 4, for Classic Sonic, after collecting enough red rings in the Modern Era Act 1 levels...
  • Big's voice actor Kyle Hebert recorded lines of dialogue for Big's part of the game, but Big was later scrapped from the game's plot and levels. It's currently unknown where in the game he would've been, but Hebert's name remains in the credits, and Big's statue can be seen in the Statue Room.
• Word of God: Confirmed Sonic Heroes was in the Dreamcast era.
  • That's only going by the PS360/PC version of the game (Heroes is considered to be part of the Modern era in the 3DS version) and purely for pragmatic reasons (so that there'd be an even number of stages per era), though.
    • To clarify, while the PS 360 version of the game has Seaside Hill to represent Sonic Heroes, the 3DS version uses a boss instead, the Egg Emperor, that serves as a boss for the Modern Era.
