This looks like a dead candidate

Summary by Goo Monster

Trope has been launched. This was about binning it.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

...given that it's overly short and has been untouched for 21 months.

Goo Monster, do you want to do anything to revive it? Like the new name you wanted two years ago? A better description would help, too, as well as marking up the examples with formatting and links.

The Regular Show and Legend of Korra examples need to be examined by someone who knows the shows in question, because they are so poorly written I'm not sure what the writer was actually trying to say.

TBeholder (talkcontribs)

It would also need a rename, of course. Like "Nested Twisted Echo" or something. A good point against it is that Twisted Echo Cut doesn't have much examples, so maybe it would be better to merge and note than separate.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Two months and no one has made any changes. If anyone wants to save this, you have until the end of the weekend.

TBeholder (talkcontribs)

It got 5 examples. Then again, it's not a lot, so this may as well be merged into Twisted Echo Cut.

Summary by Goo Monster

picture is up, no one has displayed interest in an alternative in a long time.

If you have a picture editor (MS Paint, GIMP, Adobe Photoshop) you can do some cutting, pasting, and cropping of any images you find to have the appriopriate content, then upload that (just mention the source and your alterations when you do)

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

I think you misunderstood me. A video is a bunch of pictures which are played one after another, like a flip book. What I want is to use is a frame/picture from a video. However I do not remember how to take a single frame/picture out of a video. I can do a screenshot, but there is a less crude way that has a better result.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Whoops, my mistake.

You might try using video conversion software (either free or commerical), since most of those allow you see things frame by frame, and you could probably extract the proper frame using that.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

Okay so I figured out how to get those frames without the crude screenshot. Even so the initial resolution is pretty terrible, so if anyone knows where I can get decent (or better) resolution for the episode Futureshock of My Life as a Teenage Robot, that would be great.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

Okay so I got access to episode Futureshock and was wondering which moment's you like the best (if you've seen it). My favorite one that fits is when Tuck is leaping off a car.

Needs a Better Title (?)

In the thread "This looks like a dead candidate" here, TBeholder suggested that this trope needs a better title. I don't see anything wrong with "Movie Match Up" (except that there should be a hyphen in there: "Movie Match-Up").

TBeholder suggested "Nested Twisted Echo" (which in my humble opinion is more esoteric than what we have now).

Opinions on renaming this trope and what the name should be if it's renamed are requested, please.

My idea is not any closer to the best and snappy names either, indeed.

I just see names not fitting the scope or definition (that aren't famous examples) as leading to wrong assumptions, so they end up missing examples that actually fit and/or becoming sinks for "not really this, but if you squint, it looks sorta kinda related" bloat. Not a hot issue, but perhaps worth a thought.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

"Recursive Action", maybe? I have to say that "Movie Match-Up" is a big vague; it almost sounds like a romance trope.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

Ooh, how about "Media Mirroring"? I'm a little concerned it might make people think it has to do with 2 regular works instead of a work and a Show Within a Show though.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I like that. It's certainly better than my suggestion.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Agreed; IMHO, "Media Mirroring" is better than anything else suggested so far.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

It's been over two weeks without anybody adding more comments. "Media Mirroring" it is.

Drive in movie

Couldn't hurt.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

New Name: I looked up the definition of "Match Up", and it doesn't come close to the definition of the trope. I just used it because it was the closest thing to the definition (especially if you don't know what "match up" means, which I didn't at the time) and for Alliteration. As such, I would like the community to propose new names and have a vote on which one we use. --Goo Monster (talk) 21:32, 15 June 2014 (BST)
