Launchable?

Hold on, gotta put in one more example...

...There, I vote for launchable.

Jlaw (talkcontribs)

Voting to launch!

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

It's well-written and has plenty of examples. Vote to launch.

And thank you to everyone who put in the work to get this page to this state!

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Well, even with three yes votes, 40 minutes is a bit short for a voting period. Let's come back in a day or so and confirm the will of the people.

Utini501 (talkcontribs)

Yep, I'd say it's ready to go.

Agiletek (talkcontribs)

Only issue I can think of is the title suggests "Character is a deity, but doesn't know it." (Is this a trope already? I can think of a two examples off the top of my head: Haruhi Suzumiya, Disgaea 2) more than "Stupid but powerful Deity"

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

In-universe, the only person who calls Haruhi Suzumiya a deity is the self-admitted liar Itsuki Koizumi -- elements of the fandom latched onto that statement and repeated it as if it was confirmed. I don't know whether we should list that one as an example here.

Agiletek (talkcontribs)

Well, "deity like powers" more than literal.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Agiletek's point is one I tried to make early on (and failed at getting across). There is a potential for confusion (and thus misuse). What do people think of "The Mindless Almighty" instead? I know it breaks the parallel to "All-knowing, All-mighty", but I'd rather sacrifice the turn of phrase than have to stamp out misuses down the line.

Agiletek (talkcontribs)

Mindless is better, but I think it evokes more of a force of nature personified that doesn't have a mind of its own and just exists

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

And I fell right into the trap that was just pointed out... Yeah, let's rename this during launch.

"Mindless Almighty" (with or without the definite article) is as good a name as any.

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

Looks good to go to me.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Okay it's been about a day, and we've clearly got a vote to launch, but the issue of renaming is still up in the air. Let's thrash that out before we do anything.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)
HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Seems okay to me, although as I've mentioned before, it seems a lot like TVTropes has a Trope called Almighty Idiot that is very similar to this one.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I don't find that surprising -- there's nothing that keeps us and them from noting the same new patterns and defining them. If you're suggesting we use the same name, well, I'd rather we didn't, if only to short-circuit any spurious accusations of plagiarism it might cause.

Jlaw (talkcontribs)

I think Mindless Almighty looks good.

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

I think that's a fair enough name to use instead.

HLIAA14YOG (talkcontribs)

I'm ok with Mindless.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

All right, that's six yes votes over the course of ten days, no outright, definite "no" votes. Launching as "The Mindless Almighty", then.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Okay, launched and entry-pimped.

Deletion notice

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

This candidate has been declared abandoned because no significant edits have been made to it in over six months. If no serious effort is made to render it launchable, it will be deleted at some point after midnight UDT on 31 May 2022.

I'll review and see if I can add some examples

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

Sorry, Umbire, I've got nothing to contribute.

Utini501 (talkcontribs)

Just added an example, and I bet I'm capable of finding more once I set aside some time to do so.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Okay, there's been more than enough work on this to consider it rescued. In fact, all it needs is a few categories and we can call it launchable.

Can we get a few more examples and categories?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

It hasn't been touched in almost six months and it might be nice to make it launchable. Otherwise we'd have to consider it abandoned.

Oh, and I'd like to propose a rename to "The Unthinking Almighty". "Unknowing" sounds more like ignorance than lack of cognitive faculties.

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

'fraid I can't think of any other examples right now, but the rationale for "Unknowing" is explained in the description. Granted, I do agree that "Unthinking" is more intuitive.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)
HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Is this Trope anything like "Almighty Idiot" on TV Tropes?

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

Yeah, except we don't have that - so I whipped up my own from scratch and decided on a different name while I was in the process of doing so.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Right, think I can add a few examples then. I put a few on that Trope while I was still there.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

Hmm... I've noticed you've added a few examples of not-very-smart gods - when I first started workshopping this, I conceived it as a god-like being who had their mind broken as a result of the power, but I feel like with your examples (and one example I already had on here in Genesis) I could expand the description's scope accordingly. What say you?

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Right, might be a good idea. Like I said, most of those were examples I submitted to "almighty Idiot" on the other site.

Frankly, I think a "gods who are drunk with power" might be too specific.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

Eh. I feel you could find plenty of examples of that, but even so broadening the scope wouldn't hurt.
