Seems okay to me. Vote to launch

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Okay, I did one more pass, found a few small things to fix, and I added what seemed to me to be an implicit requirement for the trope to the numbered list in the main text.

That said, voting to launch.

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

No obvious problems that I can see. Voting to launch.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

No objections raised. Launching.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Launched but not entry pimped - I ran out of time.

Calling for Admin Grammar Check

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

I'm supposed to make one more grammar pass, but honestly these grammar passes are tedious and make troping feel more like a part time job than a hobby. I think the three passes I've already done is enough, so I'm calling for admins to check for anything wrong with the page before I call to launch.

As you could probably figure out from the ten-day delay between your request and this reply... we're busy. Sorry about the delay in replying.

Asking other Tropers for help, as you did below, is the right way to go about getting this sort of help.

Can't find any obvious errors, but I added some examples.

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

Regarding the recent examples, could you please explain how the characters play off each other, and the interactions they have? Don't just say who the characters are, say why they are placed in the spotlight and what they accomplish by working together. My earliest examples suffered from this exact same issue, and an admin asked me to add to them. Thank you!

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

I'm planning to let this run for a month before calling for a vote to launch. That should be plenty of time to find issues preventing launch.

This is my first trope in the workshop, so I want to hear from you guys about this entry before further development. Nothing feels worse than spending three hours on something which should be deleted. If the current entry is deleted, I only lose ten minutes of work.

  • Is this tropeable or is it too close to people sitting on chairs?
  • Does this trope already exist? I already searched Category:Gender and Sexuality Tropes, and looked under The Hero, but it's quite likely I missed something.

I also don't know the exact procedure for launching a trope. From what I gathered, you just call for a vote when you are satisfied, and hope it passes. If a vote fails, can I call for another one the moment I fix the issue? A trope with no activity is deleted after six months, but what if that trope is in a position to be launched?

Thanks for responding, and I'm sorry for all the new questions and any inconveniences answering them. If this trope already exists, feel free to delete this proposal without warning.

I can see some faint potential in this, but we need the examples to explain HOW the characters play off each other.

For example, and I'm using a game I recently played, Star Ocean 6 to be exact, to show off what I mean.

"Raymond Lawrence and Laeticia Aucerius the main male and female hero of Star Ocean 6. You can even pick one as the canon main character, which will cause the story focus more on events from their POV whenever there is a story fork where they must split up. Certain characters are only recruitable for each one on their respective player path and certain scenes are only viewable for each character. This means it's worth playing as each character once per playthrougth to see all the content glossed over or not available when playing as the other."

Basically, the trope should explain why the work having this trope in effect makes the work stand out as a result.

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

Thanks for the feedback! Let's try again.

Instead of "Kiki and Tombo from Kiki's Delivery Service", do you think "Kiki and Tombo in Kiki's Delivery Service, who initially start out disliking each other, but once Kiki saw who Tombo really was, she starts to open up to him. Tombo has a passion for aviation, which Kiki fulfils because her witch powers enable her to fly, and the ending shot shows them flying together; Tombo on the plane he built, and Kiki on her broomstick. An interesting thing is that the two protagonists, despite having great chemistry, never engage in romance and the work remains No Hugging, No Kissing." is better?

One of the reasons I made the examples so short is I don't want to lose unnecessary work. I wasn't sure if this can even get off the workshop, which is why I was so minimalistic with descriptions. I'll add a note that any new examples should demonstrate how characters play off each other.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Yeah, that's much better.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Does this trope already exist?

I'm not sure. It has a lot in common with Battle Couple, but I think somebody could make a case for that being a related trope instead of a duplicate trope. Any thoughts as to how the two are different?

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

A Battle Couple is explicitly romantic. This trope, that may be true, but it does not have to be per se. This latter would be especially true for brother and sister heroes (and various other male/female blood related dynamics as well), non romantically involved male/female hero pairs, or when the romantic aspect is strictly optional and/or merely implied.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

That works. Thanks!

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

Also a Battle Couple can be people of the same sex. If two girls that are in love fight, it counts as a Battle Couple, but even if they are the main characters, it does not count for this trope.

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

Also, Battle Couple has the "Battle" part, whereas this trope does not. If two characters never see a single fight, then they are no longer eligible for Battle Couple but are still eligible for Opposite Gender Heroes.
