Rozen Maiden/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Alas, Poor Scrappy: Even if you're a Child-Hater and considered Hinaichigo The Scrappy, you'll cry in the anime and drop the manga in shock.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Suigintou, twice.[1]. Another is Barasuishou, although some call it a Karmic Death considering how she defeated Shinku.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Suiseiseki and Suigintou.
  • Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory: This is basically the plot in a nutshell: A deific father figure creates seven children and then vanishes, leaving them to fight over the vague promise of his love and physical perfection.
  • Evil Is Sexy: Suigintou.
  • Foe Yay: Shinku and Suigintou have this going on quite a bit. Special mention goes to the opening of Ouverture opening song with the lyrics "is this hatred or love", while showing their hair swirling and knotting together.
    • Kirakishou and Suigintou in the manga, with Kirakishou showing signs of a sister complex and even offering Suigintou her Rosa Mystica. Though it could just as easily have been a ploy to capture Megu.
      • Kira even plants a kiss on Hina-Ichigo, though it was more for the purpose of gaining her body.
  • Funny Aneurysm Moment: Kanaria calls Barasuishou "Bara Bara", which is Japanese for "break apart". She dies by having her body completely torn apart.
  • Memetic Mutation / Fountain of Memes: If you haven't already noticed, "DESU!", desu. This page used to have every trope ending with "desu", after Suiseiseki's Verbal Tic.
  • Moe: Elegant Gothic Lolitas with Verbal Tics and various anime cliché personalities? So very moe!
  • Nightmare Fuel: How Kirakishou takes Hina-Ichigo's body in the manga.
  • The Scrappy: Hinaichigo and Kanaria, for those who don't like kids.
    • Shinku sometimes gets this, due to her largely Tsun Tsundere personality, and her treatment of Suigintou.
    • Suiseiseki for some, particularly those who are sick of her catchphrase.
  • Tear Jerker: You have to have a heart made of stone if you don't feel anything during the chapter/episode dedicated to the death of Hinaichigo.
    • All of the Rozen Maidens had pretty heartbreaking deaths. Hina probably had the saddest, but all are Tear Jerksers.
  • Toy Ship / Cargo Ship: Literally between Jun and most of the dolls. Also, Jun and Tomoe might have something going.
  • The Woobie: Suigintou in Ouverture, Suiseiseki in Träumend.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Kirakishou. All the evil actions she takes is out of a desperate need to be loved, and with her having been isolated in the N-field her entire life, it's not surprising why she would want it so much.
  1. First, when she is defeated in the first season, showing her incomplete body as she falls apart. Then in second season, when she was about to attack Shinku, but held back because she did not want to hurt Megu, and finally make a Diving Save, shielding Shinku from Barasuishou's attack
