• Non Sequitur Scene: In that episode where a rabbit steals Jack's clothes (Pfft, that episode on it's own was kind of a Non Sequitur Scene episode), there's a scene where an...elephant...fairy...THING randomly flies by with this ghostly, wailing noise. Never mentioned, never explained. What's worse, at the end of that episode, right before the credits start, it flies past The Stinger AGAIN with that same creepy noise!
• Broken Base: Fans tend to be divided on the final result of Season 5 and the ending to the series as a whole.
• Complete Monster: The High Priestess of the Cult of Aku in Season 5, whose daughters she had sired by Aku, Ashi included, is easily one of the darkest and vilest villains to appear on the show, without question. She treats her own children horribly, including burning their skin and having them brutally beaten by one of her minions for getting distracted. She even makes them kill her own cult. The Dominator in that same season enslaves children and makes them fight Jack, knowing that he can't hurt children.
  • Laughably Evil as he may be, Aku himself could be viewed as being one, as he is the supreme ruler of the show's universe and responsible for nearly all the horrible things Jack goes through. He forced The Emperor (Jack's father) to watch his beloved kingdom be destroyed with sadistic glee, even destroying Jack's home city. He also kidnapped Jack's father, enslaved him for years (and perhaps decades) and sentenced him to forced labor while privatizing him of health, food and water, which he would do to many other people and lands for thousand of years. Worse, in his Bad Future, the slaves of his government are punished terribly and sometimes executed, impaled or crucified, such in the case of the Talking Dogs. And as if that was not enough, he also plundered the resources of other planets. Over the years, Aku continued to make Jack's life as miserable as possible, right down to pulling Jack out of a time portal he was in the middle of jumping through and mocking him relentlessly, forcing his own daughter Ashi to fight Jack and eventually corrupting her body, putting her in a And I Must Scream as she is aware of her actions in her corrupted form, and ultimately trying to kill her simply because she refused to kill Jack.
• Crazy Awesome: The Scotsman.
• Creepy Awesome: Aku, the shape-shifting master of evil!
• Crowning Moment of Awesome: When divine intervention powers up Jack's sword, allowing him to destroy the last of Aku's assassin robots with one slash.
• Crowning Moment of Funny : During the episode in the graveyard, Aku has Jack pinned, and precedes to deliver the finishing blow with Jacks own sword. Only for the blade to bounce off, unable to hurt him. Aku is so shocked, his GREAT FLAMING EYEBROWS go out.
  • Aku trying to get children to prefer him over Jack by twisting every bedtime story he can think of. Probably the top crowner is when he portrays Little Red Riding Hood as an adorable little girl with GREAT FLAMING EYEBROWS, laser beam eyeballs, and deadly karate skills.
• Crowning Music of Awesome - Rave in the Forest.
  • Crowning Soundtrack of Awesome the rest of the series. Honestly, with all the other sounds telling the story, you won't miss dialogue.
  • The opening for "Jack and the Three Blind Archers" is also pretty cool. Sounds a little like something from Red Alert with the marching/stomping going over into the beat and all.
• Ensemble Darkhorse - The Scotsman, the fact he's got a gun for a peg leg should show how cool a character he is.
  • Demongo, apparently enough to get him a profile on Cartoon Network's site at one point in their old shows archive.
• Foe Yay: Jack and Aku, as Ikra.
• Fridge Horror: You don't really think Aku kept Lulu (sweet thing) around after its usefulness as a bargaining chip had ended, do you?
• Funny Aneurysm Moment: One episode had Aku having a horrible coughing fit, coughing up a bit of evil that infects Jack and slowly spreads. Mako (Aku's voice actor) died of esophageal cancer.
• HSQ: Quite high, especially in the Darker and Edgier final season produced years after the show's original run.
• Ho Yay: Nearly-naked Jack tickling a nearly-naked sumo wrestler.
• Iron Woobie: Jack goes through hell and back to try to return to his native time, and comes out of almost all of his fights worse for wear. And yet, he trudges on.
• Magnificent Bastard: Aku has been this on occasion. Especially in one episode where he pretends to be a witty warrior woman called Ikra with a decent excuse for her actions; being that her "father" was put on a flaming wheel by Aku and needed a jewel in exchange for his freedom. "She" eventually falls for Jack, and they kiss, and looks like Jack and her will be happy. However, after "she" gets the jewel, Ikra reveals "she" was Aku the whole time; so he basically toying with him sexually and emotionally.
• Memetic Badass: Jack himself. And AKU!
• Memetic Mutation: Foolish samurai!
  • "No money for you, crazy round man."
  • "GREAT FLAMING EYEBROWS!"
  • "Extra THICK!" - originally part of a particularly non-sequitur line "I'd like a large... what? Extra THICK!" from when Aku was ordering an assassin. It's been used mostly for women perceived to be thick (as in, having a juicy ass)... which only made it explode again after Ashi from the show's fifth season revival fit the definition perfectly.
• Nightmare Fuel:
  • Oh god, that elephant-fairy thing from Jack is Naked.
  • The Minions of Set for one gave Jack several "Oh Crap" moments, once he realized he wasn't even close to a match for them, despite his many skills.
  • Nothing about the cannibalistic, starving, confused robot family with red internals?
  • Heck, what about the very start of the first episode? Creepy sound effects/music, creepy visuals of a an eclipse and Aku's 'prison' and then the dark, menacing figure where the tree was a second ago. Then it turns around, very very slowly and its huge, unblinking eyes stare into the very depths of your soul.
  • Aku's extermination of the Dinosaurs, mostly the final one, who was slowly swallowed up.
  • The Daughters of Aku in Season 5. Particularly due to the horrifying abusive, dehumanizing way the High Priestess brought them up.
• Nightmare Retardant: Aku is legitimately creepy and imposing at first glance. But he's also so darn hilarious that he can't inspire in the viewers the fear that he inspires in-universe.
• No Yay - Oh God, when Aku disguises himself as a beautiful woman, he seems to actually show growing chemistry with Jack. Urgh, how far would he have kept up the ruse?
• Older Than You Think - The ignorant would think that Jack and the Spartans is a blatant rip-off of the more Memetic Mutation movie 300, even including many of the same sepia tone visuals. But the episode was made years before and was inspired by the 1990s graphic novel of which the infamous film was an adaptation. Never mind that the Spartans and the Battle of Thermopylae is from 480 BC, over 2000 years before Samurai Jack or 300.
• Periphery Demographic: It's a kid's show on Cartoon Network. It's ostensibly aimed at 6- to 12-year-olds. Cartoon Network apparently took note of how many older viewers watched the show, including those 6 to 12 year olds who grew up with the show, when they revived the show for a final season and put it on Adult Swim.
• Squick: The Reveal at the end of The Warrior Woman, even if it was obvious.
• What Do You Mean It's Not for Kids?: The fifth and final season aired on Adult Swim and contained graphic violence, some profanity and sexual innuendos. To a lesser extent, the first four seasons also count due to how stylized and graphic the robotic gore was.
