Star Wars: Knight Errant

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Star Wars: Knight Errant is an American comic book series set in the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Written by John Jackson Miller and drawn by Federico Dallocchio it will be published by Dark Horse Comics starting in October 2010. A tie-in novel, also called Knight Errant and also written by Miller, was published in January 2011.

Set 1,000 years before Episode 1, the series stars Jedi Kerra Holt, who ends up stranded deep behind enemy lines during the New Sith Wars. Cut off from the Jedi Order and the Republic, Kerra is faced with the question of just what one lone Jedi can do against a galaxy that's falling apart.

Tropes used in Star Wars: Knight Errant include:
  • A God Am I: Daiman thinks he's the only being in the universe that's real and that everyone else was created by his own mind.
  • Action Girl: Kerra Holt.
  • Affably Evil: Arkadia tries to be this, she fails.
  • Ax Crazy: Both Daiman and Odion. Brothers after all.
  • Bald of Evil: Odion.
  • Big Bad: Vilia.
  • Blood Knight: Odion.
  • But for Me It Was Tuesday: Odion on the Massacre of Aquilaris, where Kerra's family was killed.
  • Cain and Abel: Odion and Daiman, big time. This sibling rivalry launched an entire war engulfing numerous systems in Sith space. Then we find out in the novel that over a dozen Sith Lord siblings and cousins are warring with each other in order to win their Sith grandmother's vast inheritance. Averted with the twins Quillan and Dromika, who rely on each other and their Force bond perhaps too much.
  • The Caligula: Daiman.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Daiman and Odion.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Narsk.
  • Crapsack World: Just about every darksider out there is calling themselves a Sith Lord and running around killing people and causing chaos, the Republic has thrown up its hands and cut off the hyperspace routes and communication to large sectors of space leaving thousands of worlds to their own devices and the Jedi can do almost nothing to stop any of it.
  • Creepy Child: Dromika and Quillan.
  • Dark Lord: All the wannabe Sith fancy themselves this.
  • Doomed by Canon: Kerra Holt can't overthrow Sith Space, it lasts for another thirty years until the events of the Darth Bane trilogy.
  • During the War: The series is set during the New Sith Wars.
  • Earthshattering Kaboom: Kerra Holt narrowly manages to avert one in the first issue.
  • Even Sith Lords Obey Their Grandmas: And how!
  • Evilly Affable: Daiman, if he's in the mood.
  • Evil Chancellor: Saaj Calician. subverted. Saaj is actually a slave who doesn't even possess anything resembling free will. The moment he returns to his own consciousness, he's executed as a traitor by the Sith.
  • Evil Matriarch: Vilia.
  • Evil Versus Evil: Sith vs. Sith
  • The Fettered: Gorlan exhibits some traits.
    • Kerra as well. She's the ONLY Jedi Knight in Sith Space.
  • Good Versus Evil: Kerra represents the Republic and the Jedi in of their clearest representations as the good guys. Just because they're good, however, doesn't mean they have the answers however.
  • Mismatched Eyes: Daiman.
  • Nietzsche Wannabe: Odion.
  • Sergeant Rock: Master Dackett, Brigadier Rusher's senior enlisted man.
  • The Brigadier: Brigadier Jarrow Rusher, commander of the mercenary artillery unit Rusher's Brigade, and Kerra's main ally during the novel.
  • The Obi-Wan: Vannar Treece trained Kerra.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Played somewhat straight with Odion, subverted with Daiman, though who knows what the hell he actually seeks.
    • Knight Errant reveals Daiman intends to dominate all life in the cosmos through the Force.
  • La Résistance: Kerra tries to convince Gorlan to become this.
  • The Remnant: Vannar Treece calls "Chagrasi Remnant" a territory that resists being conquered by the warring Sith.
  • Royally Screwed-Up: the revelation behind the reason all of the Sith Lords in the region are so nuts - they're a family of nobility set against each other by their grandmother.
  • Shout-Out: The cover of the third issue of the series is based off a piece of concept art by Ralph Mc Quarrie.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Odion and Daiman act like they're Cain and Abel but it turns out to be this.
  • Sliding Scale of Idealism Versus Cynicism: Gorlan and Kerra discuss open resistance that could get the enslaved people killed.
    • The series seems to be a heavy contrast of Idealism embodied by Kerra and the near-total despair of the people in Sith Space.
  • Title Drop: In the novel, Daiman muses over the "errant Knight" that is Kerra to a prisoner that has seen the Jedi.
  • Why Do You Keep Changing Jobs?: in the novel Kerra discovers not one, but several bystanders changing their occupations during her brief stay at Arkadia's base of operations. She eventually find out that inhabitants are constantly rotated between absolutely different positions on a completely random basis: it serves the Sith purpose in a pretty twisted way.
  • Word of God: John Jackson Miller has said on his Facebook that Kerra could kick the butt of Zayne Carrick, star of Miller's previous Star Wars series Knights of the Old Republic.
