In the distant future, the all-female crew of the government-owned starship Muze receives a mysterious Distress Call while traveling through deep space. The signal originates from a derelict ship called the Zogne, which does not respond to any radio communications but otherwise shows no visible signs of damage. When a rescue party boards the vessel, they are horrified to find that the entire crew appears to be dead, with all of the women lying naked and covered in a thick, gooey substance. Before leaving, the members of the rescue party are relieved to find a single survivor...a beautiful young woman named "Flair", who is found locked in a cryo-stasis pod.

Upon returning to the Muze with their amnesiac survivor in tow, the captain orders the destruction of the Zogne, in hopes that whatever caused the demise of its crew will die with it. However, danger has returned with them, as the alluring young survivor is not what she seems... and some of those aboard the Muze have dark secrets of their own.

Alien from the Darkness (Inju Alien) is a Hentai anime OVA, directed by Norio Takanami. It was originally released in 1996 by studio Pink Pineapple. It was later licensed for release in English by Kitty Media.

Tropes used in Alien from the Darkness include:

  • Action Girl: Hikari is the only female that survives the attack. She uses what she has and her guns to take out the demon.
  • Cast Full of Gay: The entire crew of the Muze is female, and most of them are explicitly shown to lust after each other.
  • Covered in Gunge: The female victims aboard the Zogne were all found naked and covered in a thick, green, gooey substance that the Muze crew were unable to identify.
  • Discount Lesbians: Flair, who is possessed by a tentacle-raping alien in search of breeding stock.
  • Distress Call: Played perfectly straight.
  • Downer Ending: The only survivor at the end was Hikari and that was because she figured out that Flair was not normal. However, she fails to notice that Yuri is possessed as Einstein warns her of the danger.
  • Evil Detecting Ferret: Einstein, who growls and hisses whenever Flair is nearby.
  • Faking Amnesia: Flair pretends to have amnesia, to explain being unable to tell her rescuers what happened to the rest of her crew-mates. This is all to hide the fact that she is in fact the host to the alien being that killed the entire crew of the Muze.
  • Faux Action Girl: Any girl not named Hikari falls into this category, especially the Captain.
  • Five-Man Band
  • Fridge Horror: Hikari and Yuri are the only ones on the ship but Yuri is possessed by Flair. Hikari doesn't finds out. It's implied that she's dead after the entire movie.
    • No Endor Holocaust: While the above is one valid interpretation, The Other Wiki [offers this]: As they hug, her sister shows an evil grin with the film ending with Hikari's pet snarling. In a cut ending scene, it reveals that Hikari managed to kill her sister but causing her to have a minor nervous breakdown. Not that the cut ending sounds all that much better...
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Yuri sacrifices herself to save Hikari so she can go get the bullet that can kill the monster. Turns out she survived but she's possessed. Not like Hikari finds out in the end.
  • Hypnotic Eyes: When seducing a crew-member, Flair's eyes flash green before she reveals her unexpected appendages. Once she does so, her victims' eyes go blank, and they seemingly become unable (or unwilling) to resist.
  • Interspecies Romance: Implied (in a Played for Laughs fashion) between Hikari and Einstein. Some of the characters' comments certainly don't help:

Hikari: "If you're good, we can play 'Hide the Ferret' later!"
Hikari (after Hilda grabs her breasts): "No! That's Einstein's territory!"
Hilda (after her sexual advances are rebuffed by Hikari): "I bet you just want to pet that other piece of fur..."

  • Genre Savvy: Hikari seems to be the only one that seems to know what will happen next. As a result, she finds the green fluid first and then does research on Flair the minute Einstein senses that she's not normal.
  • Laughing Mad: Hilda after Flair rapes her. She points the gun at Hikari and Yuri and begins shooting uncontrollably. She then shoots the window and is sucked into space and dies. Keith's body goes with her.
  • Les Yay: Between Hikari and Yuri and explicit relationship with the Captain and Hilda.
  • Mars Needs Women: The eponymous alien attacks women in attempts to breed. This usually doesn't turn out so well for its victims.
  • Naughty Tentacles: Quite a lot of them, all part of Flair's true form.
  • Never Split the Party: The girls don't seem to realize this.
  • Plot With Porn
  • Sacrificial Lamb: Anna is the first girl introduced. She's the one whining about how gross the goo is. She is the one that is killed first when trying to befriend Flair.
    • Keith also falls into this. She only talks at the beginning with everyone and then is seen taking a shower and then seduced by Flair. She then goes on a rampage and the Captain has to kill her.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Lindo, why didn't you just listen to Hikari when she said their was a monster behind you?
  • Weasel Mascot: Einstein, Hikari's pet ferret who (in her own words) "is always searching for fish and boobies".
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Yuri has blue hair. Hikari has purple hair. Keith has green hair. Lindo has two shades of colors in her hair.
