• Expy: Van is designed to look like Spike Siegel, complete with with badass tuxedo and hat. However, he also has a lot of similarities with Domon Kasshu: A Jerk With a Heart of Gold who is hell bent on revenge, thinks his allies are just nuisance, whose main partner (Wendy being the counterpart for Rain Mikamura) is mostly on the passive side (not fighting), and also has a Genki Action Girl who falls for him but eventually they don't hook up (Priscilla being the counterpart of Allenby Beardsley).
  • The luck-obsessed guy from the first episode seems to be based on Simon Phoenix.
• Hey, It's That Voice!: Aside from Carmen's Japanese seiyuu (mentioned below),
  • The Lundgren brothers are Suzaku (Ray) and Mistune (Joshua). Their English dub actors are Gaara and Sasuke, respectively.
  • Wendy in the English dub is Eureka, and her brother is Lelouch in English. Michael's Japanese voice is Kira Yamato while Wendy is Yurika.
  • Speaking of Carmen, her English dub voice is Rukia.
  • Fasalina in the English dub is Kallen. Her Japanese voice is Lakshata.
  • The Claw is Anavel Gato in English and Jamil Naete in Japanese
  • Nero is Don Kanonji in English, while Carlos is Chief Aramaki.
    • Their Japanese seiyuu are as follows: Rishu Togoh (Nero), Walter Dornez (Jose), Gecko Moria (Barrio), and Professor H (Carlos).
  • Van is Grimmjow in English, and... He is the white void. He is the cold steel. He is the just sword. With blade in hand shall he reap the head of the Clawed Man and cleanse it with the flames of destruction! He is Van! The end has come!
    • With the realisation that Michael is Ichigo, their eagerness to fight each other makes more sense.
  • Priscilla is Solty with more self-confidence.
• Kikuko Inoue: Carmen's voice. Could be a case of Playing Against Type.
• Shout-Out: El Dorado references a lot of Super Robot anime, but in particular it showcases several direct references to Gao Gai Gar, for example using the "G-Stone" sound during it's transformation poses and having a visual shout out to King K-Der's Mega Fusion.
  • Watch their debut episode. Seriously, the enemy pilot that said that the Robot is outdated ? Voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama. El Dora V is a Gao Gai Gar Expy. Yeah...
  • And that's small potatoes compared to the sixth episode, which starts with a tribute to the opening scene of Pulp Fiction, essentially repurposes Amanda Plummer and Tim Roth's characters from the film as guest stars for the episode, and features a mob boss who looks like Marlon Brando and is named Tony Montana.
    • The series' premise is essentially Kill Bill, following The Groom chopping his way to revenge. Who didn't expect The Claw to be an old guy with shoulder length, white hair?
  • Back to El Dora V, whose "El Inferno Y Cielo" attack in Super Robot Wars K even looks like its namesake from Gao Gai Gar.
  • And a bit more on El Dora V: Ground vehicle forming legs looks very similar to Mammoth from Dancouga, the way arms are formed is similar to Voltes V and Combattler V, and cockpit arrangement with all pilots moved from their individual cockpits to one large control room is usually haw various Sentai combiners work.
  • In terms of the El Dora pilots, their dead female member is named Chizuru Stephens, who shares the same first name as the token female pilot in "Combattler V", Chizuru Nanbara.
  • El Dora is one big walking shout-out. Nero and Jose at one point reminisce on fighting the Zaurian empire, which sounds a bit close to Getter Robo's Dinosaur Empire.
  • At one point, Van finished an opponent with the V no Giri, Voltes V's finishing move.
  • Van's design is basically Spike in a tuxedo.
  • Let's just say it. Wendy makes you want to go grab a hamburger.
  • Michael, with the voice of Kira Yamato, is the only one genetically talented enough to pilot the Saudade of Sunday and its multiple blue wings. There is also him being converted by a performer.
  • The first episode ("Tuxedo Blowing In the Wind") clearly borrows elements from The Road Warrior. Compare Lucky's speeches to the speeches of The Humongous, for instance, or note the way a bus is used to block the entrance to the mall.
• Word of God on this anime has some odd things to say. In an Anime Insider interview, the director insisted that Gun X Sword is actually NOT a western. Apparently, the creators preferred to think of it as a mecha anime rather than a Space Western.
