I'm okay with it, vote to launch

Jlaw (talkcontribs)

Vote to launch

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Vote to launch with the slight name change proposed hers.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I went ahead and changed the name while we vote, just so we don't forget to make the change.

Lequinni (talkcontribs)

Vote for launch too

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Four votes "yes" and no votes "no" after more than 48 hours -- launching.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Launched and entry-pimped.

This trope candidate hasn't been touched for nine months

There was a discussion eight months ago where some deficiencies were identified, but nobody did anything to fix them.

It appears to me that we don't care enough about this to launch it. I'll check it again on December 1 -- if nothing has been done with it, I'll delete it.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Just a note: it isn't the mods' job to call for launch votes, or to carry out work that's been identified.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Added an example, seems okay to me.

HLIAA14YOG (talkcontribs)

I would suggest to change the name to "Land of the Shattered Empire". I also think there shouldn't be really a real-life section: the point of the trope is that this setting is used because it's an easy recipe for conflict and intrigue. A real setting may be used but it's not really a real life trope.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Just added an example and made some edits. And I have no problems with HLIAA14YOG's suggestion for a rename.

Jlaw (talkcontribs)

Agree about the rename, and I added an example.

Jlaw (talkcontribs)

I think we have enough examples. Should we launch?

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Well, we still don't have anything in the description about how this trope interacts with After the End -- that's the only previously-identified deficiency that still exists.

Once that's done, then it will be time to call for launch.

HLIAA14YOG (talkcontribs)

I added to the description what you requested. Check to see if it's satisfactory.

What else does this need to launch?

Agiletek (talkcontribs)

Before launch I think this needs 1: A catchier title if possible 2: Figure out a better way to list historical settings that are commonly taken advantage of for this trope 3: Preferably at least one other contributor adding an example. Anything else?

Robkelk (talkcontribs)
Agiletek (talkcontribs)

Added a few categories.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Thanks. Sine there are more than two categories other than the pagename and "Trope", we can take "Category:Pages needing more categories" off the page now.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

"Land of a Shattered Empire" would ring slightly better - beyond that I'd have to sit and think about it.

Agiletek (talkcontribs)
Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

We should get some more examples, but if we can't it's fine. I like "Lands of a Fractured Empire" as a title much better, though. It flows together a bit better.

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

Nothing's coming to mind right now, but I'll put a pin in it.

Jlaw (talkcontribs)

I'll try to add more examples

Kuma (talkcontribs)

I am curious about two possible examples that might work, but I am unsure. First, the Holy Brittanian Empire from Code Geass was created from remnants of the British Empire, which could be an aversion or being played with. The next is Digimon Adventure 02, where the Digimon Emperor's defeat left his territories with the Dark Spires still functioning, leading to the Digidestined destroying them while being resources for the next antagonist to use. So, do they fit?

Agiletek (talkcontribs)

Does the Brittanian Empire speak a single language (at least officially)? If it does, it definitely counts.

Kuma (talkcontribs)

It's national language is English from what I researched.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

A question: How does this trope interact with After the End? They aren't duplicates of each other, but explaining how they're different would help define the trope (and make the description a bit longer).

Kuma (talkcontribs)

Isn't After the End more about a post-apocalyptic setting while this trope is about an empire that has been destroyed which left some kind of remnants?

Best way to list historical fiction examples?

Agiletek (talkcontribs)

Listing (for example) all Three Kingdoms media separately in their own section would have lots of redundancy. Is there a better way to put them down than under "real life"?
