America's Next Top Model/Characters/Cycle Thirteen

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Nicole Fox

Nicole Fox was a contestant and winner of Cycle 13 of ANTM.

The 18-year-old red head is a student from Louisville, Colorado. At 5’7”, she’s definitely someone people look up to. Then again, she wasn’t always that way. When she was a kid, she admits that her nickname was “bloody eyeball.” Getting over that awkward phase in her life, she eventually decided to take a chance and go on a reality show. She managed to get herself through an arduous audition process and became one of the contestants for America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 13. Nicole said that if it didn’t work out on the show, she could always stay true to her biker chick image.

Nicole graduated from Monarch High School. As of 2009, she is a sophomore student at University of Colorado at Boulder majoring in studio arts. She always wanted to be an artist, journalist and model. She’s also a connoisseur of motorcycles and owns one herself.

Nicole was selected as one of the 14 finalists to compete in the thirteenth cycle of America’s Next Top Model, which was specially created for petite models who were 5’7″ and under, where she stood exactly 5’7″, the maximum height for the entry. Throughout the competition, Nicole won two reward challenges and three top photos. Despite her shy and awkward personality, she never placed below fifth and received three first call-outs with no appearances in the bottom two or three. At the final judging, Nicole was lauded for her high-fashion photographs and her successful mastery of her body proportion, in spite of her unconventional runway walk in the fashion show. In the end, she was chosen as the winner of America’s Next Top Model, beating runner-up Laura Kirkpatrick, who was considered another favorite of the judges. Kirkpatrick said she believed Nicole won because of the strength of her photos: “Every time with the judges, she could do no wrong in front of them. They really saw her as perfect.”

Laura Kirkpatrick

Laura Kirkpatrick was a contestant and runner-up during Cycle 13 of ANTM.

Laura was born in Stanford, Kentucky, to father Greg Kirkpatrick and mother Jodie Hill Jones. She has two younger sisters, Hannah and Jarrah, and a younger brother named Jeremy. She previously has worked on her family’s farm, where working with cattle was one of her primary jobs. She has admitted to being dyslexic. Prior to her appearance on America’s Next Top Model, she had been working as a waitress. Laura was majoring in art at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky, before joining the show, and was the first in her family to attend college. However, she missed final exams due to America’s Next Top Model, which prevented her from advancing from freshman to sophomore.

Laura was considered a favorite finalist among judges and reviewers, who praised her for her bubbly personality, strong “country girl” lifestyle and Kentucky accent. She was voted fan favorite in a poll the show held after the conclusion of the series, which won her a six-month, rent-free apartment in New York City.

Laura had been pursuing a modeling career for years prior to her appearance on the CW Network reality television show America’s Next Top Model, and had looked into applying for the series before, but she was a half-inch shorter than the 5’7″ height cutoff. Her grandmother, who Laura considers her best friend, told Laura tryouts for Cycle 13, which was called the “petite edition” because it specifically sought contestants who are 5’7″ or under. Laura said it was a last-minute, “spur-of-the-moment” decision to visit Chicago, Illinois, where she successfully applied to be on the season. Laura, who was nineteen when she started on the show, was consistently considered one of the judges’ favorite finalists throughout the season. She was particularly praised by the judges and reviewers for her strong personality, which stood out as different than those of the other contestants due to her working-class, “country girl” lifestyle. She was also noted for her tendency to break into sudden fits of excitement and laughter. Her Kentucky accent has been identified as part of her charm, although during the show, judge and fashion photographer Nigel Barker said it could prove to be a hindrance during her modeling career. Barker said, “I know that in the back of their head, they don’t want a Cover Girl with an accent, unless it is already somebody super-famous.” Laura initially tried to tone down her accent as a result of the comment, but stopped trying because she felt it made her “lose my spark.” Laura was never selected as one of the “bottom two” contestants for any of the challenges. However, none of her photos were chosen as the best photo-of-the-week except for a team photo in which she and other contestants posed for on a Cirque du Soleil set. Laura said the Cirque du Soleil photo shoot was her favorite of the show, and that walking on the runway was her favorite part of the modeling experience.

Laura’s dyslexia proved to be a difficulty during some challenges, particularly when she had to read teleprompters for Cover Girl television commercials, which was one of the final contests of the season. Throughout the show, Laura spoke fondly of her grandmother, Wanda Sue Kirkpatrick, during taped segments and often wore dresses designed by her grandmother during the judges’ comments. Wanda Sue also made a dress for Tyra Banks, which she wore on the show. Starting at 14 contestants, Kirkpatrick made it to the final two, but ultimately lost to Nicole Fox, who was named “America’s Next Top Model” on November 18, 2009. Laura and Fox became friendly during the season and, although Kirkpatrick believed her personality was strong, she also admitted Fox’s photos were particularly strong. Laura initially reacted emotionally to her loss and was comforted by the show’s host, retired supermodel Tyra Banks. She said of her initial reaction to the loss: “I was really devastated at the time and cried forever until my eyes swelled up and popped out of my head! But now that it’s all over, I’m okay with it because I know I’m going to work just as much as Nicole.”

Although Laura did not win “America’s Next Top Model,” she was voted fan favorite in a poll the show held after the conclusion of the series. Although the margin was not reported, Laura said the producers told her she won by “a whole lot.”

Erin Wagner

Erin Wagner was a contestant and runner up during Cycle 13 of ANTM.

A native of Kenosha, Wisconsin, this 18-year-old was a student who resided in Spring Grove, Illinois during her time on America’s Next Top Model. Taking a break from her education, she decided to pursue her modeling career by becoming one of the contestants for America’s Next Top Model’s, Cycle 13.

Erin is a self confessed “total nerd” who enjoys playing video games such as {{Pokemon. She also loves the Internet and the online culture. In interviews, she’s said, “No matter whether I win, I’ll leave the contest with a lot of contacts in the industry.” Prior to the competition a nervous Erin has stated “I’m gonna play the game, and I’m gonna win the game. Because I’m good at games, games are easy.”

Erin was a strong front runner during her time on the show, being consistently called in the top six with the best photos. She also won two reward challenges toward the end of the series. Her performance began declining after episode 6 and she fell to the bottom two four times in a row before she was eliminated with Jennifer An during episode 11.

Many viewers in ANTM forums commented that they began to look at Erin differently after the models arrived in Hawaii, due to her increased arrogance and slight ungrateful nature. After winning a reward challenge, she wasn’t happy with her prize, a helicopter tour of the island, because she wanted a tangible prize like jewelry.

Jennifer An

Jennifer An was a contestant during Cycle 13 of ANTM.

The 24-year-old was an actress and a budding model during her stint on the show.

The often bubbly and optimistic model took strong pictures throughout the competition; enough to be called first three times and often called second and third. She won one reward challenge in episode 6 and was asked to share Laura Kirkpatrick‘s challenge win where both of them were rewarded with a 5-day paid vacation in Maui. This ended her stint on America’s Next Top Model on a high note, as she was eliminated during episode 11 with Erin, in a surprising double elimination.

Sundai Love

Sundai Love was a contestant during Cycle 13 of ANTM.

The 18-year-old Bakersfield native did some modeling before her stint on the show, but mainly spent her time going to school.

Sundai was a dynamic competitor, but didn’t have the strongest photos of the competition. She was consistently called in the bottom five, even though she was the ninth girl eliminated from the show. She had the weakest photo following an underwater photo shoot with Russell James. She couldn’t pose underwater and made excuses about her asthma when asked to keep trying. Sundai did win one reward challenge in episode five.

Brittany Markert

Brittany Markert was a contestant during Cycle 13 of ANTM.

The 21-year-old is an aspiring model originally from Livermore, California. The 5’5” student was staying in Santa Clara during her time on the show.

Brittany began the competition struggling to have the best photos, and toward the end, her performance improved immensely. She won reward challenges in episodes three and four and won immunity from elimination in episode five. Despite her improvements in the second have of the show, Brittany was the eighth girl eliminated from the competition.

Ashley "Rae" Weisz

Ashley “Rae” Weisz was a contender during Cycle 13 of ANTM.

The 22-year-old homemaker and mother from Rochester, MN became the eighth finalist eliminated from America’s Next Top Model’s thirteenth season.

Rae had her ups and downs in the competition, but began on the right foot when her ‘childhood photo’ was the best of the bunch; she was even called first during that episode. She also had another first call out during episode six when her, Jennifer and Brittany had the best photo during the Mystere shoot in Las Vegas. Rae’s group also won during the dancing challenge involving emoting without showing facial expression. They won $17,000 worth of jewelry. Despite Rae’s strong overall performance, she was eliminated during episode eight.

Kara Vincent

Kara Vincent was a contestant during Cycle 13 of ANTM.

A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, this 19-year-old student lived in Chicago, Illinois during her stint on America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 13.

Kara’s unique beauty helped her achieve strong photos throughout the competition, which resulted in at least one first call out and a few bottom two call-outs.

During her time on the show, Kara won two reward challenges; one during episode three’s ‘smizing challenge’ and the other during episode six’s ‘dancing challenge’ where her, Jennifer and Rae won $17,000 in jewelry.

Despite her capable performance, Kara ended up being the 6th girl eliminated from the show. During her final judging panel, Tyra said it felt like she was ‘giving up’ in her pictures.

Ashley Howard

Ashley Howard was a contestant during Cycle 13 of ANTM.

The 22 year-old aspiring model is originally from Chicago, Illinois, but was residing in Brooklyn, NY during her stint on the show.

Ashley was a dynamic competitor on America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 13, but consistently produced weak photos, mostly landing between seventh and ninth called. During episode six, Ashley was criticized by the judges for failing to incorporate her dancer background in her posing and was eliminated.

Bianca Richardson

Bianca Richardson was a contestant during Cycle 13 of ANTM.

The 21-year-old student and aspiring model from Columbia, South Carolina was living in Washington, D.C. during her appearance on America’s Next Top Model.

During casting, Bianca (who now goes by “Bianca Chardei”) revealed that she had just come out of an abusive relationship which prompted her to shave her head. Although viewers and competitors felt sorrow for Bianca, that soon changed in episode two when Bianca began to complain about her makeover, her photo shoot, her outfit and her makeup. It was due to this that Bianca found herself in three bottom-two call outs (including her elimination). Her first two bottom-two call outs were for what the judges called a “poor attitude” and bad photo. In episode five, Bianca was in the bottom two because the judges felt she could soften the look in her face. They also felt she was not improving enough to stay in the competition. Despite her difficulties during the cycle, Bianca did win a reward challenge in episode three; unfortunately it was not strong enough to keep her on the show.

Lulu Braithwate

Lulu Braithwaite was a contestant during Cycle 13 of ANTM.

The 19-year-old student and aspiring model from Brooklyn first made an impression on viewers when she revealed she was a in a long-term relationship with her girlfriend, whose name she had tattooed on her chest. (Later in the competition, she was criticized for having the tattoo, as tattoos are frowned upon in the modeling industry.)

In interviews, Lulu talked about waiting in line for NY auditions for twelve hours, and she happened to be just inside the doors during the time of the New York riot.

During her appearance on the show, Lulu was never a front runner, but she showed potential to get there. She did win the smizing reward challenge in episode three when her, Bianca, Brittany, Courtney, Kara and Laura all won a dinner with Sean Patterson. The losers had to do the dishes.

Lulu was eliminated from the show in episode four following the “make me tall” photo shoot with Jonathan Mannion. The judging panel felt that she had an uninspiring personality and that she performed poorly during the shoot.

Courtney Davies

Courtney Davies was a contestant during Cycle 13 of ANTM.

The 22-year-old from Plantation, Florida was a cheer instructor at the time of her appearance on the show. Courtney was remembered for having a sprained ankle while on the show. She wore a cast/boot on her foot during her photo shoots and runway challenges. When not being photographed, she used crutches to get around the model house.

During her stint on the show, Courtney had her ups and downs, but really didn’t get a chance to make her mark after she was eliminated in episode three. Incidentally, she also won a reward challenge in very same episode in which she was eliminated following a photo shoot with Firooz Zahedi. She, Bianca, Brittany, Kara, Laura and Lulu won the smizing reward challenge, which allowed them to have dinner with Sean Patterson. The losers had to do the dishes.

Courtney went home when the judges felt that she had a self-defeating attitude due to having to wear her cast/boot.

Rachel Echelberger

Rachel Echelberger was a contestant during Cycle 13 of ANTM.

The then 18-year-old Woodland, California native was a customer service representative during her appearance of America’s Next Top Model.

Memorable for her doe-eyed beauty, Rachel was the only girl of all the contestants to be eliminated outside the judging panel during episode three, following a poor interview with a representative from Wilhelmina Modeling Agency. Following the challenge, Rachel was elminated due to what Nigel Barker and Mr. Jay called ‘lack of charisma’. Rachel wasn’t on the show long enough to really prove her modeling skills, but she began the show by being called third best, then eighth before she was asked to leave the show. All the girls, including Rachel, were shocked when she was asked to leave immediately following the challenge.

Lisa Ramos

Lisa Ramos was a contestant during Cycle 13 of ANTM.

The then 19-year-old student from Queens, New York took a break from going to school in order to pursue her dream of becoming a model.

Lisa was added to the show roster after Amber DePace quit for undisclosed reasons. Lisa was brought on during episode two and was unfortunately eliminated that very same episode following the ‘childhood photo reenactment’ shoot with Baldomero Fernandez. The judges noted her poor performance and timid personality as reasons she was eliminated so quickly.
