Anything Else for Me to Add? - Captain Britian

1
Jade Shauni (talkcontribs)

Hey, I'm almost finish with this: https://allthetropes.org/wiki/Captain_Britain So, what shall I fix, tweak, category adding, and whatnot before I take out the "Needs better description" and run off to do other things. Or am I good to go? I just want ya guys to comb through it and tell me what you think.

Pages that are not updated

2
Arhaeqh (talkcontribs)

New troper here. I noted that there are many pages that have not been updated since a lot of time. May I help with more information and examples of tropes?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Always! That's the whole point of being a registered user, after all -- gaining the right to edit the wiki. (And the who point of a wiki, for that matter.)

Be aware, if you didn't read the site notice that appears at the top of pages until you dismiss it, that until you establish your bona fides as an editor every change you make will go into our Moderation queue, where it will be reviewed by the admins before being allowed through to the live wiki. We do this because it helps short-circuit vandals and spammers (both of which we've had more than our share of over the years); it also lets us catch common first-timer problems like illegally copying content from TV Tropes or having no clue how our markup works before they can affect the wiki. Once you do establish your bona fides, though -- which can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months depending on how often you post -- you'll be "promoted" to a user level that bypasses Moderation. Until then, it may take a day or two for your edits to appear, depending on moderator availability and work load; please be patient.

Here are a few pages you should check out as a first time editor:

The last one there has within it links to all our specific page-type guidelines and a few other pages you may find useful. We strongly recommend you give everything at least a quick glance.

We also strongly recommend you read How We Do Bans Around Here. This isn't a threat -- this is the wiki policy strictly controlling how and when user bans can be applied by an Admin (and when they can't). We want you to be aware that unlike TVT, we do not ban users on whims or because we're cranky.

Welcome to the wiki and we look forward to your contributions!

Template:Films associated with Studio Ghibli

10
Summary by Ilikecomputers

The old template remains the same, but a new template, Template:Studio Ghibli Staff was created.

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

I've noticed that one of my recent revisions has been undone. That revision in question removed a TV series from what a template named "film". Since then, we have changed the template name to just be reflective of their works, meaning the work can now stay, but let's go further.

There's more to Ghibli than just their works--there's directors, long time staff, related studios, related projects, composers, and so much more that makes a film unique. My proposal is to separate the template even further into "works", "staff", and "related". Everything we've got so far will go under "works". "staff" and "related" will be new sections. Then, we'll rename the template to just "Studio Ghibli".

The "staff" section will include:

The "related" section will include:

Asking the community (and admins) before making the change, as is the procedure for all wiki organizational changes. Anyone can feel free to comment.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

This sounds good to me, especially since somebody who is familiar with the subject has volunteered to do the work. No objections to any of the above.

EDIT: As long as the staff are in a separate navbox.

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)
Agiletek (talkcontribs)

I guess expanding the template to include staff etc. would work if those things merit pages of their own. Not really a strong opinion on this one since it's outside my area of intterest.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

I'd rather keep templates about works separate from templates about creators. We have enough confusion with people tagging certain pages with both "Music" and "Musicians"; let's not spread that confusion to other media.

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

Hm... In that case, do you think it would be appropriate to make a generic "Studio Ghibli" template for this information, and leave the old one alone?

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

That would work, yes.

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)
Robkelk (talkcontribs)

It looks good to me.

Kuma (talkcontribs)

The templates would work for me.

The Great Repair

2
TBeholder (talkcontribs)

Guess The Trope: The Game! The Great Repair is something very, very specific.

Maybe it can be made more indicative -- In Case Of Emergency, Repair, Then Run, or Repair To Escape, or something like that?

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

"Repair and Run"? "Fix, then Flee"?

The trope doesn't have anything to do with the stated Trope Namer, as far as I can tell, so I don't mind a rename here.

How many of the pages listed at Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Citation_needed should have their "citation needed" tags replaced with "context" tags?

How many of the pages listed at Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Context should have their "context" tags replaced with "citation needed" tags?

According to the tag descriptions:

* The "citation needed" tag is used when one thinks the statement is unsubstantiated or totally opinionated.

* The "context" tag is used when one thinks the statement is incomplete or unclear.

Punk Punk (is a mess, partially due to me?)

SimYouLater (talkcontribs)

Disclaimer: I screwed up in the past. Didn't get completely banned from TV Tropes completely but can't do edits. Trying to redeem myself there has been blocked by a forum software bug making my posts mostly invisible to users, I'm not stupid enough to risk getting banned for ban dodging to explain that. My brother managed to figure that part about the TV Tropes forum bug out on my behalf.

So I'm not sure what the current state of Punk Punk is here, but [| on TV Tropes] it's a mess and [| the Wikia page] still has edits that came from my mis-aimed attempts at fixing that and adding to it.

I am aware this isn't TV Tropes, so this might not apply here, but the issues I saw were...

1) There was a discussion on TV Tropes about "what counts as Punk Punk". No consensus reached.

2) The reason there is no consensus is due to disagreements about...

2a) What constitutes "snowcloning"?

2b) Does it have to be known as X Punk to people in general before it qualifies as Punk Punk? If so, what about Punk Punks made before the answer is "yes, it must be known as X Punk already"?

2c) The following recent Punk Punk proposals are part of the issue...

"Solar Punk"

An actual [| trope on TV Tropes]. What is it? "Help out people and the planet even if the law says otherwise." Like Net Neutrality and laws against going off the grid. Unfortunately, optimistic Sci-Fi this decade is too easy to categorize as it based solely on being optimistic when pessimism is in.

"Social Punk"

[| Not yet a trope]. Think "flowery IT industry PR cyberpunk, where reputation is money and mankind itself is going obsolete in the face of shiny new machines for your smartlife. Has heavy overlap with Everything Is an iPod In The Future in aesthetic, but not in optimism.

Possible Social Punk

"Kidpunk"

Don't bother with this for now. I tried adding it at a chaotic time in my life, currently I want to focus on the other problems (if any) with Punk Punk.

"Biodiesel Punk"

A pattern I noticed which holds no water if Solar Punk and Social Punk don't, a combination of Biopunk (genetic engineering and related social issues) and Dieselpunk (Great Depression Punk Punk). Circuses are cheap but bread is expensive, social and genetic engineering is rampant and mass starvation leads to horrible twisted games of the wealthy.

Possible Biodiesel Punk

"Grafitti Punk"

Stands on shaky ground as [| a suggested genre from before] [| The Great TV Tropes Crash of 2008]. Related to Graffiti Town but usually composes the entire setting.

Possible Grafitti Punk

  • Jet Set Radio
  • [| Velo CITY]
  • [| Splatoon]
  • [| Sunset Overdrive]
  • [| Hover]

Non-Punk Punks?

"Splatter Punk"

Not sure? Apparently unrelated to Punk Punk settings.

"Stitchpunks"

The things the main characters of 9 are.

"Vaporwave" a.k.a "Sea Punk"

Best named as Vaporwave because this is two genres of art similar enough to have combined into one, it makes fun of the punk snowcloning in and of itself.

SimYouLater (talkcontribs)

Was unable to link to various pages needed to demonstrate examples. If someone can edit them in, I have a copy of the OP saved to my computer.

SimYouLater (talkcontribs)

So, after thinking about it, I'm wondering if there isn't a concrete consensus on Punk Punk here like on TV Tropes and I could just go ahead and start editing pages (so long as I don't make a nuisance of myself)?

Supernatural (TV series)

2
TBeholder (talkcontribs)

Where all links to trope subpages are "Supernatural (Anime)"

TBeholder (talkcontribs)

Assuming it was an import error, it's unlikely to be the only one. There have to be a way to check such things with a script.

TBeholder (talkcontribs)

Would it be better off as a disambiguation page?

current (Vendetta) -> Crime Fighters 2 + redirect Vendetta (video game)

disambiguation page: Cycle of Revenge / Vendetta (video game) / V for Vendetta

Derivative (talkcontribs)

I don't see any particular issue with your suggestion, I will allow others to bring forward their views before either of us do anything.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Sure, why not? Just don't forget to move the YMMV page along with the top page.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Concur. I see no harm in this.

SelfCloak (talkcontribs)

That's a good idea.

Video Games/Awesome

1
TBeholder (talkcontribs)

Needs some fixing and rearrangement. Not only does the page itself has such helpful text as

Subtropes include:
    Awesome
    Awesome
    Awesome

but subpages are arranged like this: "Video Game/Levels TZ/Awesome"

We need to merge a couple categories
