Hugo Medio (Voiced by Hiroki Takahashi)

Hot shot member of the Cry Wolves and male protagonist of MX. Hugo's unit is thoroughly destroyed by the Devil Gundam and suffers heavy wounds; the only way to save him is to perform a cybernetic operation on him. If that wasn't enough, his friend Foglia Esto gets turned into a Devil Gundam slave and tries attacking him, causing those wounds. While Hugo manages to hide his pain, mentor Albero Esto doesn't take it well and steals the Medius Locus. Alongside new partner Aqua Centrum, Hugo sets out to stop Albero, only to find out that he's still somewhat of a Stealth Mentor. In the end, Hugo decides to become an instructor to teach the next generation of soldiers.

Hugo makes a playable cameo in Original Generation Gaiden, where his story starts during the prime days of the Cry Wolves. He's given a customized Gespenst and performs his duties well in defending the Earth from the Shura invasion and the capture of the Jetzt. Unfortunately, the Jetzt run amok and kills Foglia, then goes to critically wound Hugo. At game's end, Hugo's in prep for cybernetic operation, opening up his MX story for the Second Original Generation...

While in Original Generation Gaiden he gets a customized Gespenst, his default mecha in MX is either the Real Robot Genre Cerberus (upgraded to Cerberus Ignite) or Super Robot Genre Garmraid (upgraded to Garmraid Blaze). Officially for the Second Original Generation, Hugo will pilot the Cerberus by default. However, promotional videos reveal he will also have access to the Garmraid in some unknown capacity.

Aqua Centrum (Voiced by Yuri Shiratori)

Female protagonist of MX, at first co-piloting Hugo's machine, but gets promoted into the primary pilot after getting the Mid-Season Upgrade. She's the apprentice of Hot Scientist Eldy Middi and admires her independence. She's assigned to work with Hugo, being forced to wear the Stripperiffic costume of DFC ( Delicious Flat Chest Direct Feeling Control) and is involved in investigating the theft of the Medius Locus, but unfortunately for her, she finds out Eldy's also involved; in fact, she stages the whole thing, having gone Ax Crazy. Aqua denounces her and fights on to Eldy's defeat, but later decides to take over her studies, at least promising that she won't fall from grace and go down her own Start of Darkness.

Aqua makes a cameo in Original Generation Gaiden, but isn't playable, and at least her clothing is decent. In the beginning of the game, she's a Fan Girl of Kai Kitamura and actually mistakes Lamia Loveless as his wife (he's already got one). Both give Aqua their signatures, while Aqua comments she'd rather drop dead than to wear something as Stripperiffic as Lamia's outfit. Oh, silly Aqua...

As of the Second Original Generation, Aqua is set to co-pilot the Cerberus alongside Hugo..

Foglia Est (Voiced by Anri Katsu)

A member of the mercenary Cry Wolves, he's Albero's son and a close friend of Hugo. In MX, he takes an attack from the Devil Gundam meant to finish off a seriously injured Hugo, and is mutated by Devil Gundam Cells into a member of the Devil Army. Albero's forced to kill his own son in order to save Hugo. Beyond that, little was known about Foglia in his MX incarnation, although it arguably cements Albero's Start of Darkness.

In Original Generation Gaiden, we Foglia wants to show his father he can be a talented pilot just like he is, but his cocky attitude makes Albero hold him back often. As a result, father and son don't always see eye-to-eye on missions, yet despite their differences, Foglia has nothing but respect for his father. When Kai Kitamura approaches Albero with the new Gespenst MK II M Custom models, Foglia jumps at the offer, but is passed over for Hugo. Some time later, during a solo mission against the Jetzt, Albero attempts to launch a finishing blow on a Jetzt Regisseur, but fails. As the Regisseur attacks, Foglia takes the hit for his father and is killed much more tragically (his death in MX happened off-screen). In response, Hugo attempts to avenge his fallen friend, but winds up getting seriously injured just like in MX.

  • Ascended Extra: From a one-note character in MX, into...well, keep reading.
  • Blessed with Suck: Gets constantly passed over because of his attitude. Then, there's the fact he purposefully exists just to get Killed Off for Real in the two games he's ever appeared in.
  • Character Development: Other than being Albero's son and the circumstances of his death, little was known about Foglia until Original Generation Gaiden. Even then, the development isn't a whole lot, but compared to what Foglia had before, it's quite substantial. Hell, his short appearance was enough to garner him a theme song, "Going Ocher", and a personal color scheme of ocher/tan.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: A bit of a subversion, as he wasn't useable in MX.
  • Killed Off for Real

  • Taking the Bullet: With the only difference between MX and Original Generation Gaiden being the intended target Foglia takes the bullet for.
  • Tear Jerker: Foglia's death in Original Generation Gaiden is quite pronounced compared to his off-screen death in MX.

Albero Est (Voiced by Katsuhisa Houki)

The leader of the mercenary Cry Wolves. Introduced in MX as The Rival to Hugo and Aqua with an interesting connection:Albero is Hugo's former commander and has been deeply affected by the death and mutation (for a lack of better words) of his son Foglia at the hands of the Devil Gundam. Having allied with Aqua's mentor, Eldy Mitte, Albero steals the mecha Medius Locus and decides to hunt down the Devil Gundam on his own. Over the course of game, Albero challenges Hugo and Aqua (having been sent by The Federation to capture him) because nothing will get in the way of his Roaring Rampage of Revenge. Eventually, Albero assists Magneito Ten (the protagonist group of MX) in defeating the Devil Gundam. However, Eldy isn't quite pleased, believing Albero to a hindrance to her AI-1 project. Unknowingly, through the course of his actions, Albero wins the appeal of the AI-1 and tells Eldy off. Sadly, once the Medius Locus reaches its third transformation, AI-1 has grown so large it consumes the cockpit of the Medius Locus. Albero appears during the final battle and reveals to Hugo and Aqua he has no regrets over his actions and repeats the Cry Wolves' motto "Always come back alive". Albero is killed along with Eldy and the AI-1 when he activates the Medius Locus' self-destruct program.

In Original Generation Gaiden, Albero is still leader of the Cry Wolves, but has a friendship with Kai Kitamura. In addition, Albero has a rocky relationship with his son, as he recognizes Foglia wants to be like him, but Albero wants Foglia to earn the respect like he did, rather than ride his father's coattails. The Cry Wolves were assigned to initially guard over the ruined Earth Cradle by General Mitall and extract any useful data on the Einsts that arrived during the Kurogane's solo assault mission on the facility. The mercenaries succeed in capturing an Einst Regisseur and deliver it to Eric Wong, a former EOTI scientist who worked on the Granzon. Mitall and Wong give the Cry Wolves a second mission: infiltrate the White Star to capture Vindel Mauser and the Zweizergain in order to obtain Ageius, the System XN installed in the machine. Instead, they find the wreckage of the Soulgain and succeed in removing most of the scrap before the White Star is pulled into the Einst dimension.

Following the mission, Albero has a chance meeting with Kai, who hands him two of three Gespenst MK II M Custom models (one for him, the other for someone else in his squad). Albero gives the mech to Hugo, despite objections from Foglia During a mission against the Jetzt, Albero gets damaged in an attack by a Jetzt Regisseur and is about to be finished off when Foglia jumps in and takes the killing blow for his father. Hugo's also seriously injured in this attack, although Axel Almer and Alfimi show up and save what remains of the Cry Wolves. The last of Albero is seen when he's notified that Hugo's body requires cybernetics in order to stay alive.

Due to continuity rearrangements, Albero's storyline runs a little differently in Original Generation. As of the Second Original Generation, he will return to pilot the Medius Locus. Tropes associated with Albero are:

Eldy Mitte (Voiced by Yuko Kobayashi)

A scientist obsessed with creating the perfect artificial intelligence. Eldy was Aqua's mentor, and was known as being strict; however, she will go to great lengths to see her research come to fruition. In MX, she helps Albero hijack the Medius Locus on the condition he allow her to install her creation, AI-1. Since Albero doesn't really care, Eldy decides to help Albero in his quest to destroy the Devil Gundam. She encounters Hugo and Aqua several times (as they're sent to capture the Medius Locus), yet Eldy keeps her identity a secret in order to manipulate Aqua's emotions. When the Medius Locus transforms into its second form, Albero's quite disturbed by its resemblance to the Devil Gundam and questions Eldy's intentions, though she Hand Waves the notion of similarities.

Over time, Eldy comes to the conclusion AI-1 isn't evolving fast enough and tries to eliminate all obstacles. With the Devil Gundam destroyed, Eldy decides to remove what she thinks is the last obstacle: Albero. However, AI-1 has grown attached to Albero and begs Eldy not to kill him. Stunned the AI-1 has become so sentient, Eldy nearly shoots Albero, until he slaps her and tells her to shut up (while at gunpoint, mind you). By the time AI-1 transforms a third time, it crushes the cockpit of the Medius Locus, along with Eldy and Albero. Eldy finally loses it and decides to merge with AI-1, hoping to complete its evolution. Before it can transform a final time, Albero self-destructs the Medius Locus, killing himself, Eldy and AI-1.

In Original Generation Gaiden, Eldy appears as a researcher within the Earth Federation Army, with Aqua as her assistant/student. After events involving the Wendigo Project, Eldy's placed on the Tsentr Project. Beyond this, not much about Eldy is revealed yet, but with the prologue to MX in Original Generation Gaiden, she'll be back. Tropes associated with Eldy (and for convenience, AI-1) are:

  • Ax Crazy: Made more evident after she merges with AI-1. She cranks it Up to Eleven in MX in a peculiar way: damaging AI-1 enough that it's left with exactly 1 HP, Eldy has a special dialogue just for that moment, mainly where she laughs at how having only 1 hit point left means nothing to AI-1 or something along those lines. It's creepily hilarious.
  • Body Horror: This video essentially demonstrates how AI-1's evolution transforms the Medius Locus from a normal mech into...well, see for yourself.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Original Generation Gaiden.
  • Genre Savvy: See Ax Crazy entry.
  • Good Hair, Evil Hair: For the majority of MX, Eldy keeps her hair all nice and neat, even when being a villain. When she merges with AI-1, she lets it hang loose, adding to her shift in Ax Crazy.
  • Kiss of Death: See Nightmare Fuel entry.
  • Mad Scientist
  • Manipulative Bitch: Eldy keeps her identity hidden from Aqua just to screw with her because Aqua's heavily emotional. Eldy's reveal manages to do it in such a way that it breaks Aqua's heart.
  • Master Computer: AI-1 slowly becomes self-aware and becomes MX's true antagonist.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: The Medius Locus continues to evolve in subsequent encounters with the help of the AI-1.
  • Nightmare Fuel: AI-1's second, third and final forms. In addition, the final attack of AI-1 is downright creepy as hell. First, it absorbs the opponent and blasts the target with some random orbs, all while a giant naked Eldy watches on. The attack is topped off with Eldy delivering a Kiss of Death to the opponent. Do remember all this happened during the early years of the PS2. One can imagine what the current PS2 capabilities can bring to this attack in the near future.
  • Sentient AI Warning Signs: Nos. 2, 10, 15, 17.1, 17.3, 20, 35 ( 4th form only), and 53. Although, #53 happened because Eldy went crazily obsessed with making AI-1 more powerful, so it counts as a variation.
  • Spell My Name with an "S": Is it Erde or Eldy?
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Eldy gives this to Albero after concluding AI-1 isn't evolving because of him and threatens to shoot Albero. She gets a dose of shock when AI-1 asks her to spare Albero; he drives the point home by slapping her in the face.
