The Undercity
The Undercity is an ongoing[when?] fantasy MSPA Forum Adventure (a comic unrelated to MS Paint Adventures but maintaining the same "faux adventure game" format, hosted on the MS Paint Adventures forums), written and drawn by forums user Crumplepunch.
This fantasy story features quite a lot of characters in both controllable and supporting roles, many of whom are contributing to or particpating in what is shaping up to be an sizable Gambit Pileup. To make matters more confusing, the story unfolds seemingly at random throughout multiple time periods at the behest of a Lemony Narrator with ADD.
It can be found here [dead link].
Tropes used in The Undercity include:
- Action Girl Charlotte.
- Art Evolution
- Bilingual Bonus: Most members of La Patrie speak entirely in Altaignese.
- The Chessmaster: Tiberius, and possibly Kincaid.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Most obviously Tri, but Charlotte, Kincaid and Tsec all have their moments.
- City of Adventure: Of course!
- The Comically Serious: Kincaid is still wearing his trademark grimace while sitting on a beach sipping a cocktail.
- Deadpan Snarker: Charlotte and Josip especially, but just about everyone snarks except Tri. Maybe.
- Diagonal Cut: Charlotte somehow does this with a length of pipe.
- Dungeon Punk
- Eldritch Abomination: The Emperor.
- Eldritch Location: The house behind the sky.
- Evil Mentor: Tiberius, possibly. His motives remain opaque, but he has intentionally put Josip in danger.
- Evil Versus Evil: Selmurande is released to fight The Emperor.
- The Fair Folk
- Genius Ditz: Tri is a mechanical genius and loves honey.
- Genre Savvy: Charlotte, although she has moments of Wrong Genre Savvy.
- Idiot Savant: Tri again.
- Impossible Thief: Tsec, in spades. In his first appearance, he pickpocketed two rifles and a top hat from the other side of the room.
- Kudzu Plot: Almost seven months in, and the plot threads continue to multiply.
- Lady of War: Hanara.
- Magic Versus Science: Discussed.
- Names to Run Away From Really Fast: The Hand of the Lord Unseen sounds pretty ominous.
- Not to mention The Yggalach, Father of Orphans, The Spider That Snares the World.
- Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Josip and Charlotte.
- Later, Josip and Tri.
- Nice Hat: Charlotte has one. Tsec has donned a stolen top hat a couple of times.
- Shrouded in Myth: Can Tiberius see the future, or talk to birds? Who knows?
- Straight Man: Josip is prone to neurotic monologues and lengthy rants, but compared to Tri and Charlotte he's a bastion of stability.
- Pragmatic Villainy: Eisenbach doesn't take revenge for a theft... but he jumps at the chance when someone pays for it.
- Talkative Loon: Tri's main method of communication.
- Also Charlotte and Josip's fellow prisoner in Charlotte: Get to the Point.
- Tempting Fate: "What could possibly go wrong?" is practically a catch phrase.
- Voluntary Shapeshifting: Tri can turn into a pigeon.
- And possibly a bear.
