Deadly Mistakes/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Accidental Innuendo: When Delta and Jim's role-player had Delta tell the group that Jim didn't like sharing the seat in her (for those who don't know, Delta is half-transformer and can turn into a quadbike) with someone else, he wasn't trying to make it sound like innuendo. However, a couple of the thread's shippers took it the wrong way...
    • When "Russel Nash" said that he could "feel" Bernie's father, it, uh, didn't come out sounding how his roleplayer had intended.
    • Yuuka made some...interesting noises when Xavier suggested that she could use some of his grenades out of the assorted weaponry that he keeps in his car.
    • Some of the things that Kainashi says seem to come off as this to some of the characters, which is intentional on his roleplayer's part.
  • And The Roleplayers Rejoiced: The other roleplayers' reaction to the news that Kurgan Junior was coming Back from the Dead.
    • This happened on a smaller scale when Rowan destroyed Wilson's toothbrush.
    • Happened again on a smaller scale when Wilson finally did something interesting.
  • Cargo Ship: One of the roleplayers has jokingly paired Wilson Wilson with his toothbrush given that he seems to pay more attention to it than he does with most everyone else, including two possible love interests. It was even lampshaded by one of the characters at one point.
    • At least one of the roleplayers (not the one who made the observation) supports this.
    • It's actually become quite the Running Gag with a lot of the roleplayers and their characters.
  • Complete Monster: An ex-general by the name of Hammond kept a Husk in his basement and continued to keep it alive for certain experiments. See the Nightmare Fuel entry for the rest.
    • Salvation himself applies.
    • It'd probably be easier to list which non-reformed villainous parents haven't crossed the Moral Event Horizon in this with what they've done in their respective Canons, let alone with what they did to at least conceive their kids in this roleplay.
  • Crack Pairing: The Mistakes resulted from these.
  • Crazy Awesome: Each of the mistakes, really.
  • Dude, Not Funny: Most everyone's reaction to Piper suggesting that Dusk should use Kurgan Junior's dead body in his recipes varied between this and wanting to throw up, even after she admitted that it was a joke.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Why is Mathew so friendly and protective of everyone in the group? Because wolves look after their packs.
  • Fridge Horror: Since Rynn has a dragon that can feel everything she does and she gave birth to Delon, that means...Yeah..."Ouch" and/or "eww" doesn't even begin to describe it.
  • Fridge Logic: Odds are if anything like this happens around Dusk, he'll be the most likely to hang a lampshade on it.
  • God Mode Sue: Unfortunately, Newt seems to be unintentionally becoming one. The other roleplayers are trying to help her player get better at not trying to do that in the future, so there's hope for her. She's not as bad as she was before.
    • Kurgan Junior seems to have these kind of vibes as well.
  • Ho Yay: Rowan and Kainashi. More so on Kainashi's side, what with him constantly draping himself over Rowan and calling him "darling" on at least one occasion.
  • Marty Stu/Mary Sue: Most of the Mistakes's creators try to avert having their characters become these (well, Siren doesn't, but that's intentional).
  • Memetic Mutation: Rowan's infamous line, "I'M NOT A HOMOSEXUAL." The SCALPEL OF REPRESSED HOMOSEXUALITY might also apply.
  • Mind Game Ship: Wren with his canon love interest Yusagi; he is the one playing the mind games with her.
  • Never Live It Down: It seemed doubtful that anyone will let Wilson (or his roleplayer, for that matter) live down his false (mistaken on the roleplayer's part) Love Confession for Madigan, but this actually did come to pass for the most part.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • Salvation has done some horrifying things to certain people. Some of the group got to see one example of his "work", including his Long-Lost Relative, Piper. It was rather gruesome.
    • On top of that, his 'work' caused Ellen to have a vision of her mother aiming a blaster at a mutated creature that was crawling toward her. At the time, Ellen didn't realize that the creature was her father, until the scrying session at Thaddeus' house, the last part of which also counts as Nightmare Fuel, when her father, who was in the second-to-last stage of his transformation, kidnapped her mother from the abortion clinic after finding out she was pregnant with his baby and took her back to his lab, where he attempted to fuse himself with her and their unborn child and inevitably transformed after she had accidentally ripped off his jaw.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: The few (read: two or three) people who ship Salvation and Inochitori call the ship "Inovation".
  • Relationship Writing Fumble: When Susan's roleplayer had her say "When I said 'nobody hurts you but me', that wasn't love" to Dorian, he really meant it; he didn't want anyone to get any ideas about pairing her off with anyone, even though hardly anyone really did until he had her say that. Coupling that with the way they interact with each other during their night watch together, that pretty much backfired on him really badly.
  • Selfish Good, Selfish Evil: Rowan seems to be Chaotic Selfish.
  • Squick: Some people did not take Wilson's mistaken confession for Madigan well.
    • Salvation comes from a squirrel and a Reaper. You probably shouldn't think about that too much.
    • Dusk also applies to this since his father is a creature that could easily be hundreds or possibly even thousands of years old whereas his human mother wasn't even a teenager at the time she was pregnant. Also, his father is dubbed as a worm that walks, but it's been specified that his mother wasn't impregnated by him in this form. That would raise even more questions if THAT had happened.
    • The circumstances of Augustin's conception, too.
    • Whatever it was that Augustin heard from the fifth Russel Nash on the phone.
    • Evidently whatever it was that Piper saw almost happen between Siren and her father. Even Kyle didn't like it when he found out more about it.
    • Wilson's spontaneous vomiting.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: Due to Kurgan Junior's name, she was assumed to be male before her concept art was released and her chest made her gender quite obvious. Hell, her own roleplayer forgot that she was a girl at one point.
  • What Do You Mean It Wasn't Made on Drugs?: As strange as it sounds, everyone involved with this is completely sober and no one is unnaturally high. Though it's debatable whether everyone involved is completely sane... However, the same cannot be said with the parents of these Mistakes a fair amount of the time...
  • The Woobie: Quite a few...
    • Anurto was subjected to much child abuse due to his father favoring his twin sister over him so much that his father gave him a rather brutal beatdown shortly before he and his sister appeared in the roleplay proper.
    • Wilson has insecurities (and judging by one flashback to his childhood, he's been that way since he was a child) and seems to have been picked on for how little he's actually done that one does kinda have to feel sorry for him.
    • Before the roleplay's events, Dusk was subjected to bullying from his "babysitters" and still can't get over the fact that he hasn't really done much to make his own father like him, a lot of which caused him to act submissive and think of himself as mostly helpless when it comes to helping others within the rp's events.
    • Yuuka! The poor girl's felt utterly useless due to being an average teenager, and even when she tried to kill the Praetorian by herself, she ended up getting hurt. When the group made their escape, she ended up more or less collapsing inside of Jezebel's ship and crying about most everyone ignoring her when she was out trying to kill it. It's a little hard not to at least feel slightly bad for her.
    • Madigan has been a Stepford Smiler since the beginning due to not wanting to bring out her Split Personality and let her do something terrible. She also had no idea that her mother never really loved her in the first place until her father actually told her about it.
    • Kainashi. His entire childhood was one traumatic experience after another. His mother harshly neglected and abused him, he was even raped at a very young age, he's been plagued by horrifying lucid dreams his entire life and his trust issues even made it hard to believe that his father's love for him was genuine. He ran away at about 16 and literally wandered around on his own in Japan for a year before earning enough money to move to America, a country where he thought things would be better for him. Due to his trust issues, slight developed sociopathy, and his (seemingly illogical) attachment to Rowan, he has not been received well by some of the Mistakes.
