Subjective Tropes

Better by a Different Name: The author has very few issues with anyone who conjectures that the series may have been better as Veggie Tales, or Star Trek, or Blade Runner, or 24, or as any of the countless other things it gives a Shout-Out to all over.
- And the author even agrees that Bindaf 3000 was at least somewhat cooler as the Astro Megaship.
Ethnic Scrappy: Viola became one for the writer over time. Which is why she remains Out of Focus in some episodes, to avoid overexposure.
Face of the Band: Oceanoe, at least until his brother Obandy replaced him.
Ham and Cheese / Narm: All of Cybomec's lines when taunting someone are cheesy.
High Octane Nightmare Fuel: Especially in Final Hope. All-too-often combined with Ripped from the Headlines and Paranoia Fuel.
- The War on Terror finds its way to your backdoor.
- A militia can come out of nowhere and unload automatics into a shopping mall at any given moment.
- Good Girls Avoid Abortion, but might get murdered for avoiding it. In fact, good girls avoid college sex period. And may be murdered for doing so.
- That agenda you heard someone in a position of influence had? It will directly impact how you live.
- Someone out there wants to push lifestyles on your children that aren't wise; and that someone has no qualms about poisoning your child with the very handouts they promise will bring "protection."
- Getting trapped outdoors during a tornado.
- Runaway fugitives invade your property, intent on killing your entire family because it'd be more practical than taking hostages.
- Your convoy getting bombed on the road from half a mile away, killing you and your entire crew.
  - Being the sole survivor, with your convoy's killers in hot pursuit! Especially High-Octane for actual war veterans or civilians in third-world countries.
- Being wrongfully detained/incarcerated.
  - Being in the midst of a prison riot against your will.
- Being raped in your own backyard, and your parents don't believe you / don't care.
- Being the sole survivor when your entire family is gunned down callously right in front of you.
  - Being Forced to Watch your adoptive parents die right in front of you.
- Being sold into sexual slavery. With no regards for your feelings.
- Watching your daughters be kidnapped purely out of spite, even after you've paid your debts.
- Being helpless as loved ones die of Alzheimer's and other diseases.
- Being stalked mercilessly by that dude you pissed off back in grade school.
- And many more examples. Quite easily finds Refuge in Audacity, as Crosses the Line Twice only begins to describe what's happening.
Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Neone and Liquidon are ripe for this title, as they get far more character development than anyone else, save for maybe Consto.
Leeroy Jenkins: Katrina borders on this a few times when battling la-Qualda. Ironically, Stella-Marie Jenkins is easily frightened and more cowardly, in spite being immortal.
- Although, Stella-Marie does still have the mind of a 7-year-old.
Magnificent Bastard: The Mystery Wanderer.
Purity Sue: Pinkella in her younger years.
Relationship Sue: Viola was created so Oceanoe could have a love interest. (And at the time she was first thought up, so that she could be a member of the Bindaf 3000 crew that didn't have a theme color in common with any Power Rangers.)
Strangled by the Red String: Liquidon and Cindy are not initially in love, but just attracted to each other over mutual interests, particularly, their shared interest in protecting Sylvia.
- Cindy's discontent with her homeworld pushes her to consider a life with Liquidon elsewhere, in spite the obvious difficulties in pairing them for anything long-term. When Liquidon begins to look more Human and less Stationery while suffering with Mikloche glitches, he becomes just as over-the-top infatuated with Cindy as she is with him, since he is grateful anyone could be infatuated with him; knowing he was almost responsible for the genocide of his own species. Like a mosquito to a bug zapper, Cindy is incapable of finding a good enough reason to stay away from him. And it's not like she can't find a few reasons:
- His saliva can kill her, so she needs saran wrap just to make out!
- An imperial army considers him a threat to all life.
- He pissed off an entire world controlled by devil-worshiping pirates.
  - Said pirates have already tried to wipe out his entire species with viral infertility.
- Oh yeah...he's so cute and shiny...because he's basically a WALKING URANIUM ROD! And he could so totally GO NUCLEAR on her any second and reduce her to a pile of ash! Thankfully, she absorbs some of his bad powers into herself and uses them to wipe out all the bad ~~vampires~~ Mosquatlons via suicidal bombing where she's the bomb.
  - This helps Liquidon get over being romantically sidetracked, but he is left predictably depressed.
Suetiful All Along: Liquidon begins as a Shrinking Violet Super Weight with only a logical set of powers, being only slightly better off than any of the other Voyagers whose abilities are artificial. Later on, he has nearly godlike powers, making him just shy of an Invincible Hero. Even after getting Nerfed, he is still pretty powerful.
Unfortunate Implications: So, so many. Trying to make a Drinking Game out of how many times they come up would result in life-threatening alcohol poisoning pretty fast. Almost everything that is considered "leftist"/"liberal" or "unamerican" (from the point of view of a Fox News pundit) gets the Strawman Political treatment at best if not fullbore Demonisation, except (maybe) certain race relations.
What Do You Mean Its Not Symbolic / Fantasy Counterpart Culture / Juvenalan Satire / Refuge in Audacity: If you put the different places together and merge them with their Real Life equivalents, you get this:

Utah (merged with California,) Japan, and Ukraine are all that's left of the free world. Spain is an empire. Pakistan has nearly taken over the world, but Spain wants to stop Pakistan dead in its tracks before any more innocent lives are lost. Already, Ukraine is performing kamikaze missions. It's up to Utah to convince Japan to join forces in an alliance before they're all annexed to Spain. So they send a team of diplomats to Seattle to assess the damage there, and they're nearly wiped out by a Serial Killer who has an entire library full of Freudian Excuses.

They finally make it to Japan, only to battle The Plague being spread in schools because Planned Parenthood defected to Pakistan. They escape from that debacle and find themselves trapped in Springfield, which has been renamed New Gomorrah because Depraved Homosexual mobs and angels dressed like Stormtroopers are battling each other to the death.

And one of the diplomats begins dating a Bulgarian vampire. Suddenly, we discover that Iran has been taken over by Jared Loughner in a bobcat suit. He's renamed it New Amalek, and only Pakistan agrees to be neutral. Spain and Utah join forces with Japan to defeat their common enemy in Bobcat Loughner's nation of evil. Then the Spanish empire collapses. Utah and Japan are left to their own device to deal with Pakistan.

And Exty Years From Now, Utah residents are forced to move to Spain when Pakistan drops The Deadliest Mushroom on Salt Lake City. Then, it's up to treasure hunters to make sure Pakistan doesn't find the blueprints to make a Death Ray.
