Fractured Wasteland/Characters

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Midguardians

12 - To Brave Us

The unofficially accepted Leader of the Midguardians, and one of the main sources of muscle and conflict in the group. Belongs to Snowiweather.

  • Action Mom: Even after her son 53 Jr. is born, 12 participated in the battle of the Climax, and most likely intends to continue fighting for as long as she lives.
  • A Mother To Her Men: 12 genuinely cares for the well being and happiness of her fellow Midguardians, trying to make enough time to make sure they're alright, trying to help sort out any problems they have, complimenting them on their achievements, and offering fierce love and affection to boost their morale, even when she herself is on the brink of despair.
  • Afraid of Needles: A play on words trope - she IS deathly afraid of needles, just not the syringe type. Though, all things considered, she probably was afraid of syringes when she was a human.
  • Badass: She stops charging Machines in their tracks with her bare hands. She punches Cat Skulls in the optic. She runs headlong into battle without a single thought and beats down anything that gets in her way. She convinces others to and holds off a berserking swarm of every single Beast in the city. If 12 is nothing else, she. Is. BADASS.
  • Bear Hug: Unless she thinks about it, EVERY hug 12 gives is this.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: Though extremely insecure about her big, bulky design, she is slated to become much more accepting of her appearance and blossom into this.
  • Big Sleep: Sleep has consistently become a motif for 12 and death. When the Fabricator Queen in its Seamstress form melted her insides, she mumbled to 98 while seemingly dying in his arms about being tired. Later, when she falls into a coma after the Climax, her "thoughts" consist of "going to sleep". Forever.
  • Book Dumb: 12 is not the sharpest tool in the shed, to put it nicely, but she has shown a capacity and willingness to learn.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Very much so.
  • Cowardly Lion: Despite being one of the biggest and strongest dolls yet seen in the Fractured Wasteland story, 12 is also one of the biggest cowards out there - this does not prevent her from beating Beasts to death with her bare hands, but it does mean that she's pissing herself with absolute terror while doing so. "Stupidly brave" she is.
  • Despair Event Horizon: After witnessing 53's death (he being the first doll she ever saw die), learning of Rain's suicide, being tortured and watching others suffer, sometimes at her own hand, all while under the impression that everything bad that happened was her personal fault, 12 finally plunges headfirst over this when she learns that Stigma is dead - after promising that everyone who went to kill Alpha would come out alive. The end results are NOT pretty.
  • Emotional Bruiser: This is pretty much one of her defining tropes. She can crush a Seamstresses head under one arm, but she'll also sob with sadness or wibble over cute things. She'd much prefer to have a good laugh with a friend and sing a cheery song than fight or lead.
  • Friend to All Children: 12 absolutely adores children and infants, motherhood having been practically built into her bones. Show her a small kid and she'll coddle and croon over and drown them in affection for hours.
  • Guilt Complex: Her second defining trope. She has a guilt complex the size of a small continent, and has the amazing ability to blame herself for anything bad that occurs, whether or not it is her fault or not. If she could find a way to pinpoint herself as being the cause of Original Sin, she would.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Her third defining trope. 12 has the unfortunate tendency to go berserk with the slightest of provocation - it can range from being in an epic and intense fight, to calling her "fat", to hurting or threatening one of her friends, to harming a child. This COULD be quite useful, as 12 is much more dangerous when she is enraged... but it also means she can go postal on group members at the drop of a hat. Sorry Jack, sorry Signum. Well. Not really Signum.
  • Heroic BSOD: Too many times to count. 12 has never been particularly stable, so when things go wrong, she tends to either do this outright, or get pretty damn close. The worse by far was when Stigma died, sending her hurtling over the Despair Event Horizon, leaving her an empty, broken shell, and spiraling into an Angst Coma that seemed as though it would only end with her death. Good thing 98 went out to get himself killed and got her movin' again.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: No matter how many times she manages to narrowly save her groups collective ass, no matter how good or kind or caring or brave she might truly be, 12 believes herself to be the lowest of the low, a total spineless coward, a dangerously unstable berserker, and unworthy of these wonderful, wacky friends or a loyal, sweet mate.
  • Hidden Depths: Turns out 12's a lot more complicated than first believed, given she's practically a toddler by the Rebel's age standards. Thanks for the explanation, 10.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Her mate, 98, is this for the most part. Occasionally Theo or C2 take up this role as well. Without them, she would surely crumble. She might already have anyway.
  • Mama Bear: Didn't anyone ever tell you? There're friends and family and children you never harm or threaten if you're smart. If you value your continued existence, if you have any plans about seeing tomorrow, there's one person who protects them that you never, ever fuck. With. 12.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Early on in the RP, the group came under attack by two Beasts during a storm. True to her nature, 12 went charging on in (after becoming enraged when 98, then only a friend, was injured), but ended up speared on a pipe. It was only after she ordered the others to find a disappeared 53, got 98 inside, and taken care of that she decided to notice the gaping hole in her stomach, and promptly pass out.
  • My Greatest Failure: 53's death, and Rain's subsequent suicide plague her to this day. Doesn't help that 53, a doll shaping up to be a good friend, was the first person she ever saw die. Stigma's death is shaping up to be this as well.
  • Neutral Good: Though she is the former Leader of the Rebels and the Leader of Dimensionals or was and tries to uphold the rules of basic group survival, she is more than ready to break those rules and go running after a friend in trouble while putting everyone else in danger. The only consistent thing about her is that while she can't maintain just law or lawlessness, she always tries to do good. It just never seems to work...
  • Post Dramatic Stress Disorder: 12 has a habit of doing this, after the adrenaline and rage wears off. When she crashes and burns, she crashes and burns "hard".
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: She and 98. They cuddle, sing duets, and whisper sweet everything's to one another. It still manages to be ridiculously adorable.
  • Stout Strength: 12, honey? All that plush isn't fat, sweetheart. It's muscle.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: 98 is either smaller than average or average height. 12 is 9.3" tall.
  • Tragic Hero: Oh so very much. Despite being a very heroic person in basic outline, 12 is riddled with so many flaws that in terms of personality she must look like Swiss cheese. Any good she tries to achieve or do becomes balanced or outweighed by the bad that naturally seems to happen.
  • Unskilled but Strong: 12's battle tactics mainly consist of, 1) Find Enemy. 2) Take Club. 3) Beat Enemy with Club. 4) Repeat Step 3 till Enemy stops moving. 5) Repeat Steps 1 through 4 till all Enemies stop moving. 6) Go home and snuggle with 98.
  • The Woobie: This girl. Sweet goodness. She's like a porcelain figure pre-made with small cracks of insecurity in her, then struck repeatedly with a hammer, then ground into dust, then burned. When all is said and done, at the end of this long, miserable day, this girl just needs a fuckin' hug. At this point, she's almost as broken as Alpha was.
  • You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry: At this point, this goes without saying. Making 12 angry is a BAD idea.

98

53 - To Test Us

One of the original Midguardians, 53 was one of the main fighters of the group, and his death kicked off the main plot for the entire RP. Belongs to Caineachu.

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: His knife can easy stab through Cat Skulls, although he is shown sharping it at least once.
  • Annoying Arrows: He experiences something like this, as he can shrug off a lot of injuries, one of them being multiple needles from a Seamstress stabbing into him during a fight. He doesn't display how much it hurts until after the fight's over.
  • Blood Knight: Yes. Very much so.

Rebels

A group of Stitchpunks belonging to Snowi, that are from an alternate timeline of [Nine] where (supposedly) the human Rebellion created ten Stitchpunks to aid the original 9 in the process of saving life. They awoke later on after the Fabrication Machine was destroyed but have since gone on to at least help the Survivors in the process of healing the planet. They reside in a decked out Church, and are formerly led by 12. Three of their number have yet to make an appearance, and Snowi has revealed that there is a traitor in their midst. No one knows who this traitor is as of yet. At the moment, bets are being made on 17 or 11.

10 - To Better Us

The elderly mentor figure of the Rebels, and also the teacher of 15.

The "douchebag ninja" of the Rebels, the rival of 12, and the big brother figure to 15.

14 - To Shield Us

The ancient unofficial Grandfather of the Rebels, who acts as their defender in battle.

15 - To Navigate Us

The young, anxious survivalist of the Rebels, whose maps and knowledge of the Emptiness make him a valuable asset to them.

16 - To Revere Us

The priestly-ranger of the Rebels, a kindhearted soul who brings much needed joy to their group.

17 - To Dissect Us

The cynical medic of the Rebels, an utter hyper-intelligent jerkass with a penchant for getting a little too interested in his operations.

18 - To Antagonize Us

The boisterous bully of the Rebels, who seems to have a compulsive need to be nasty to everyone except her Twin, 17.

19 - To Forget Us

The charismatic charmer of the Rebels, whose memory problems easily make him the happiest chap in all the Emptiness.

Tormentors

Alpha - To Divide Us

The Leader of the Tormentors, the first main Big Bad, and possibly the craziest and scariest mother fucker in the entire Roleplay. Belongs to Snowiweather.

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Alpha has three scalpel blades in place of fingers on his left hand, and they almost seem to possess supernatural sharpness as well as ridiculously huge amounts of scary. For instance, they manage to slice through Conduit's soul-cables, nearly killing him.
  • A Father to His Men: Believes that he is this, though given he's as insane as something very very insane, you can bet that what he believes and what is real don't quite meet up. Played straight with when he was younger, as we see in the Flashback to Gamma's death.
  • Affably Evil: One of his creepier aspects is just how NICE he is. He's polite and respectful to women (referring to them as "miss" or "dear"), cordial and fatherly to men, likes a good heart to heart chat, and is generally a pleasant fellow to be around. Shame it's all undermined with just how HORRIBLY creepy he is at the same time.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Oh so much. Right to the end.
  • Ax Crazy: Alpha has a lot of trouble discerning between "stern reprimand", and "brutal murder". And he doesn't really seem to care.
  • Big Bad: For the Tormentor arc, since he was the one commanding his people to wipe out the Stitchpunks of the city, and had turned the Tormentors sights firmly on the Dimensionals.
  • Broken Ace: Once, his amiable and friendly nature were undoubtedly real, coupled with a heaping helpful of courage and a selflessness that was almost Messianic. But now? He's just broken.
  • Dead Little Sister: Not literally his sister, but very very dead all the same. In the flashback it was revealed that he personally blamed himself for every single death in his group. Their deaths haunted him constantly. It's unknown what his view is on this now.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Alpha is at peace in practically every situation he finds himself in, smiling softly no matter what is happening. Even when he is gutting his comrades.
  • Evil Counterpart: To 12. They share quite a few characteristics, both physical, mental, emotional, and in their histories. They've even echoed each others words without realizing it on a few occasions. It's gotten to the point that if 12 is ever near breaking, the RPers call it "going Alpha".
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: In the first flashback of the Tormentor's past, we see Alpha and Gamma interact when in the abandoned house the group stays in for the night. And the ship was born (even though Gamma was in a relationship with Iskra at the time, goodness). Then it sunk when Gamma died. Then it rose from the waves once more when the Climax ended... and it is now Together in Death.
  • Freudian Excuse: How he really lost his mind hasn't been revealed. Yet.
  • Glasgow Smile: A practice he put into motion after coming to the belief that since people smile when they're happy, they're happy when they smile. Think about that for a second. Then read this trope in full. Then think about how violent he is. Now put the pieces together.
  • Grand Theft Me: After she murdered him, Sihd transferred Conduit's soul-core into Alpha's body. This has presented numerous complications.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: More like "Hair Trigger Madness", but the principle is the same. It's almost impossible to know what exactly might. Ahem. Upset him, but the more obvious and well-known routes are quite simple. If you want to keep your face unsliced, DO NOT suggest that you are unhappy in ANY WAY. And for God's sake, do not, I repeat, DO NOT SUGGEST THAT OMEGA ISN'T REAL. DON'T DO IT, MAN, DON'T YOU FUCKIN' DO IT-!
  • Heterosexual Life Partners: With his former lieutenant, Beta. These two were very close friends when Beta was alive, as Alpha relied on Beta to help him maintain order in the often panicked and wayward group. After Gamma's death, Beta was forced to maintain a near constant presence around his Leader, and often stayed up with him on the nights when Alpha wouldn't let himself sleep. It was kind've bromantically adorable, in a heart-breaking way.
  • Soft-Spoken Sadist: Alpha's voice is Jack Haley's, the man who portrayed the Tinman in the 1939 version of the Wizard of Oz. Just take a listen to his soft, breathy voice, then read through even a single conversation with Alpha, and you'll realize why this trope applies.

Delta - To Remind Us

The first casualty the Tormentors suffered, and Sihd's big brother figure. Deceased (obviously). Belongs to Snowiweather

Theta

Belongs to Castoro.

Sihd - To Observe Us

The Tormentor's cold, deadpan scout and spy, and an extremely ascended extra. Now a part of the main cast. Belongs to Snowiweather.

Stigma - Soul of the Stained

A menacing warrior covered from head to wooden foot in metal armor, his face covered by a skull mask to hide a dark memory from his past. Belongs to Caineachu.

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: His sword can cut through Cat Beasts and Seamstresses as if they were paper.
  • Antagonist in Mourning: Stigma was one of these when he remembered about the deaths of Gamma and Epsilon while he was locked in the basement shortly after his Heel Face Turn
  • Blood Knight: This is a common theme for Caine's characters.
  • Dark and Troubled Past
  • Defiant to the End: Even after he was stabbed in the back and in the face by Conduit, he still managed to get out a few good blows to his attacker before dying.
  • Heel Face Turn
  • In the Back
  • Meaningful Name: One of the meanings of Stigma can be "a mark of shame," and Stigma considers his scarred and optic-less face a mark of shame, a constant reminder of his failure to save Gamma from the building, and then later Epsilon and Eta from Alpha.
  • Skull for a Head: He has something kinda like this, as the mask he wears has a skull on it and he only takes it off twice in the whole RP.

Conduit - To Orchestrate Us

Belongs to Castoro.

Iskra

Belongs to Ukari.

Omega - To Embody Us

An extremely mysterious Tormentor, so mysterious that not even their gender has been defined. They may hold the key to Alpha's madness. Belongs to Snowiweather.

Machines

Jormungandr - The God

The Big Bad of Fractured Wasteland.

The Fabricator Queen

A type of machine that has two forms - first, that of a typical (if unusually cunning) Seamstress, second, that of a miniature Fabrication Machine. An extremely dangerous creature.

The Banshee

A type of Beast created from the remains of deceased Stitchpunks, the Banshee is recognized by its two psychologically scarring vocalizations, its sobs and its screams. Both are designed to cripple a Stitchpunk, the sobs sounding like a loved one's mournful crying, and the screams sounding like a loved one dying in absolute agony. It has been implied that the Banshee has fragments of true consciousness, maybe even a soul.

The Salamander

A fire breathing Beast meant to resemble a wingless dragon, vicious and relentless.
