Milky Planet Pretty Cure

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Milky Planet Pretty Cure is the third Pretty Cure Elsewhere Fic by User:Kalle, after Folie à Deux and Moe-mousou.

It turns out that Pretty Cure isn't limited to Earth -- the planet of Mintymilk, far off on another side of the universe, has its own Cure guardians; they serve Aghetha and Luthoz, their rulers (and granters of their power), and protect the safety and well-being of its people. And everything is well... or so it seems.

The hideous overlord of the dark planet Kagamakai, Koschei, catches attention of the previously undetected Mintymilk and subsequently seeks to usurp its tremendous power in order to destroy and conquer the universe, starting with the Cures themselves. With no other option, the girls are forced to travel across the cosmos to a different planet to avoid the destruction of their home... unfortunately for everyone involved, said planet just happens to be Earth.

With Koschei tracking them down and plotting to take down Earth and Mintymilk with the help of his army of Mirox, our heroines are faced with the overwhelming task of saving both worlds while trying to maintain their cover of being normal teenage girls.

The Cures:

Character sheet forthcoming!

Tropes used in Milky Planet Pretty Cure include:
  • Adipose Rex: Luthoz.
  • Aliens Speaking English: Well, technically Japanese, but the Translation Convention of the fanfic means it's English after all.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: Apart from the Love Triangle example below, Daisuke falls in love with Aetae / Ringo at first sight, showering her with affection and gifts -- but she fails to understand what he's doing it all for and ignore him.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Mintymilkians are every color of the rainbow; it's revealed that they are all born with pale, iridescent skin, and they begin coming into their skin pigments after a certain age. This causes problems for Aetae when her pigment starts coming in, and she has issues with maintaining her human cover.
    • Green-Skinned Space Babe: In normal form, Oekoe has shimmery, light blue skin, while Aetae eventually comes into a sherbet orange tone with slightly darker freckles.
  • Apocalypse How: Koschei's plan to take over the universe involves initiating a Class X-4, so that he can remake it and rule it as he wishes.
  • Bare Your Midriff: Cure Arcturus has the standard version of this trope, while Vega and Capella both have sections cut out of the midriff instead.
  • Burger Fool: When the girls' rent starts getting too exorbitant for them to ignore, they end up taking jobs at a small steakhouse chain that holds several elements of this trope.
  • By the Power of Greyskull: "Pretty Cure Planetary Change!"
  • Cassandra Truth: Miho, Miho, Miho.
  • Cutesy Name Town: Heartstone City (no relation.) Mintymilk could also count as a Cutesy Name Planet.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Koschei.
  • Extracurricular Enthusiast: Miho's friend Mutsumi, who is dead-set on recruiting the new girls to almost every club she can think of.
  • Friends Rent Control: Semi-averted -- while Undead Tax Exemption grants them semi-decent anemities, the apartment the girls live in is fairly cramped for the two of them and frequently messy.
  • Freudian Trio: Done in a manner almost similar to Kalle's previous series:
  • Hair Decorations: All three Cures get hair decs that also act as transmitters to Mintymilk (Arcturus and Vega get a pair of stars, while Capella has a single crescent moon.)
  • In the Name of the Moon
  • Landlord: Hisayo Kokubunji, maintainer of the Grand Court Umeiro, who acts as the alien girls' sort of surrogate guardian. Has a tendency to become irritated every time the girls stiff her on the rent... which is a lot.
  • Law of Alien Names: Everyone in Mintymilk appears to have been named by throwing letters in a blender -- Aetae, Oekoe, Luthoz, Aghetha, the list goes on. Koschei doesn't count, as he was named for a certain figure in Russian folklore.
  • Law of Chromatic Superiority: Arcturus, whose color scheme is predominantly red, is the one who gains her Super Mode first.
  • Line-of-Sight Name: The girls pull their human aliases from random newsstand articles in an attempt to sound more 'Japanese'. Aetae's chosen name also overlaps with Unfortunate Names; see below.
  • Love Triangle: Type 5: Miho has liked Toshi ever since they were young, but he doesn't notice. Toshi falls for Oekoe / Ruri, but Oekoe doesn't understand his affection and doesn't care for it (she has better things to worry about.)
  • Magical Girl Warrior: More so than most canon Pretty Cure series, perhaps, considering Arcturus and Vega are practically Mintymilk's equivalent of royal knights.
  • Meddling Parents: Miho's mom and dad are pretty bumbling at times, but they mean well enough. Luthoz probably counts as a royal, non-family example, as he tends to fret over the girls at every opportunity.
  • Modesty Shorts: Found on each of the Cures' uniforms.
  • Monster of the Week: Mirox.
  • Named After Their Planet: Mintymilkians, of course; likewise, they themselves refer to humans as 'Terrans', though Aetae tends to use it as a Fantastic Slur more often than not.
  • No Communities Were Harmed: Heartstone City is basically Kagoshima with the serial numbers filed off, right down to the volcano and everything.
  • No Such Thing as Alien Pop Culture: Averted with Mintymilkian Idol Singer Moewame, who flies down to Earth in one episode and masquerades as a human idol named Mochihoney♥. She ends up gaining much success on Earth as well.
  • Plug N Play Technology / Socketed Equipment: The Milky Shards seem to act in a similar manner to the Heart Seeds; while they're not necessary to transform, the Cures have one each to transform their Constellatons into personal weapons, as well as assorted others to provide power boosts and other effects.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Appropriately enough, Aetae is the red oni and Oekoe is the blue.
  • Secret Keeper: Miho and Toshi, though only Miho knows that the girls are aliens while it takes Toshi a while to figure out that they're Cures.
  • Sensei-chan: Michishige-sensei.
  • Shana Clone: Aetae, almost deliberately so, though Kalle admittedly based her more off of Nyarko than anything.
  • Shout-Out: So many, referring to names of characters and locations. Even the series title gets this -- 'Milky Planet' is the name of a print by sweet lolita brand Angelic Pretty.
    • See Koschei's notation in the Law of Alien Names example.
    • Miho's afterschool job just happens to be at a manga café named Dodori. And speaking of the school -- Amishima High School, anyone?
    • The Arcturus Spiral Breaker is loosely inspired by the Double Helix Sword.
  • Stellar Name: The Cures are named after the brightest stars in the northern celestial hemisphere: Arcturus, Vega and eventually Capella.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Constellatons, which transform into the Cures' Weapon of Choice when a Milky Shard is inserted into it:
  • Undead Tax Exemption: Apart from fabricating new names, the girls find it incredibly easy to find a place of residence and provide all the necessary details to pass as human.
  • Unfortunate Names: Aetae's Line-of-Sight Name, Ringo Aburami, sounds innocuous enough... but the kanji she uses for her surname roughly translates to 'blubber'.
  • Zettai Ryouiki: Cures Arcturus and Capella get to Rank A with Thigh-High Boots, and Aetae has around a Rank B in her school uniform.
