Final Fantasy XII the Abridged Series
An Abridged Series of Final Fantasy XII created by ChadVision. It currently has three episodes and a Christmas Special. Can be found here.
Tropes used in Final Fantasy XII the Abridged Series include:
- The Abridged Series
- Actor Allusion: Reks being emo serves as a reference to the fact that Reks' voice actor from the original game also plays Sasuke Uchiha.
- Adaptation Distillation: 4 hours of the game in 24 minutes.
- Affectionate Parody: The series is made by a guy who generally likes Final Fantasy.
- Art Shift: The last two minutes of Chapter 2 are done entirely in sprite animation.
- Attention Deficit Ooh Shiny: Vaan.
- Berserk Button: See what happens when you step on Vaan's galbana lillies. Go ahead.
- You can also mention his brother's supposed killer, Captain Basch.
- Brick Joke: The Tornado Fortress Arc. It hasn't been made yet but since I am the creator, I think I know what I am talking about.
- The Caligula: Vayne, even though he is brilliant, rules in a way that isn't very ethical.
- The Cameo: It has become a primary joke of the series. From KaiserNeko to killerdoegirl have appeared in the series. The series has had a grand total of 23 cast members in a span of 3 episodes, most appearing in the most recent episode.
- Celebrity Endorsement: KaiserNeko was in it. CountAbyss watches it. Pretty celebrity endorsed, if I do say so myself...
- Character Exaggeration: Vaan and Vayne are over the top versions of their video game selves.
- Cool Car: Vayne's hover craft.
- It moves at a speed slightly faster than the average running man.
- Cross-Dressing Voices: Fran and all of the Viera.
- Deadpan Snarker: Balthier, maybe...
- Devil in Plain Sight: Kytes and, arguably, Vayne.
- Detonation Moon: Might happen since it is EVIL. Biggs is an advocate for the moon's destruction.
- Double Entendre: Many of the jokes, though it's never explicitly stated.
- Drag Queen: Tinder Blaze, The Flaming Pony. It's funny because he is voice by a gay person (KaiserNeko).
- Dream Team: ChadVision writes and edits everything. The dream team lies in the voice cast.
- Dropped a Bridget On Him: Larsa is a guy.
- Emo: Reks. At least until after the first episode, when he inexplicably goes from Emo to Jerkass.
- Everything's Better with Princesses: Princess Ashe. She has yet to say anything but was in
episode 1Chapter Nothing. - Evil Is Sexy: Vayne and Penelo.
- Evil Laugh: Vayne laughs fairly normal, though evil.
- Everything's Better with Bob: Vaan. He is the best character.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus: Every episode, especially Chapter 3. Almost every frame of the animation has a joke if you pause.
- Freudian Excuse: Vaan doesn't work for Migelo because he is lazy. That, in turn, makes him hate Migelo.
- Furry Fandom: Fran... even though she is pretty much an African woman with bunny ears.
- Got Volunteered
Vaan: [thinking] I'm too lazy to do menial tasks for large sums of money. What do I do? What do I do?! What do I do?! [aloud] I volunteer Kytes! |
- Hard Work Montage: Vaan completes every hunt in one montage.
- Horrible Judge of Character: Vaan is best friends with a ten-year-old sociopath. He appears to be completely unaware of this.
- Also, everybody listening to Vayne's speech in Chapter 3. This is Played for Laughs with Vayne eventually giving up the nice guy act altogether and still receiving praise from the audience.
- Killer Tomato
- Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?: The creator.
- Heterosexual Life Partners: Vaan and Kytes, Basch and Vossler, and (according to Word of God) Vayne and Dr. Cid.
- Hey, It's That Voice!: KaiserNeko as Tinder Blaze, the Flaming Pony, MasterWGS as Lanipator as Flanipator, and Ezekieru as The Pedophile. Don't forget DruoxTheShredder as Vaan.
- Even a real voice actress was featured in Chapter Nothing.
- Hilarious Outtakes: Some are used in the actual episodes. "Stromboli" would be a good example.
- Idiot Hero: Vaan, even though he knows his own limitations beyond comprehensable thought.
- Laughably Evil: Vayne tried this but failed.
- Non-Indicative First Episode: So much so that the creator went as far as to rename it so that it would no longer be a part of the series canon.
- The Other Darrin: Vayne, played by ChadVision in Chapter Nothing, is played by LordMoonstone in later appearances.
- Also, the Warrior and the
BlackColored Mage, played by ChadVision in Chapter 2, are played by CountAbyss and LordMoonstone in Chapter 3.
- Also, the Warrior and the
- Plot Hole: There are many, supposedly intentional, plot holes made by the creator.
- Vaan's unbridled hatred towards Vayne. Vaan, according to what has happened so far, has no idea who Vayne is. This may be intentional because Vaan never addresses him by his name and tends to act on spontaneity.
- Vaan's knows Dalan's name without anyone ever telling him. He also knows that he could help him get into the palace and resolve his dilemma equipping weapons, when previously, he was asking other characters where to find a person who would know.
- "Previously On..."
Narrator: Last time on Final Fantasy XII Abridged, Vaan was killing everyone you know and love! |
- Reconstruction: A series that attempts to up the standards of the average abridged series by having animated scenes inter-cut and NO REFERENCE JOKES.
- Running Gag:
"Take off ya shirt!" |
- Shout-Out: Many in the first episode. Among them are Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Pokémon, Batman and Robin, Metal Gear Solid, Titanic, The Goonies, Terminator 2, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, Resident Evil, Dragonball Z, and Inuyasha.
- You Have Researched Breathing: Parodied. Vaan is mystified by the fact that he is unable to use any of the weapons he's acquired due to not having the proper licenses to equip them.
- Unexplained Recovery: Vaan is inexplicably revived after being killed by the Warriors of Light at the end of Chapter 2.
- Unlucky Childhood Friend: Penelo.
