• Dawson Casting: Self-inflicted--Lucas Cruikshank was 14 when he created 6-year-old Fred.
  • Averted in The Movies with Fred, as Lucas was 16 when filiming took place & Fred was depicted as a 15 year old there. However, it's played straight with the ages of Jennette McCurdy (17), Jake Weary (19) and Pixie Lott (18) during filiming. Fred is the only person in the middle school he goes to that actually looks like he could reasonably be a middle schooler.
    • Possibly inverted with John Cena as Fred's imaginary dad, unless he was around 18 when Fred was conceived (and that's only if Fred's dad is the same age as Cena, any younger then...)
• Daydream Surprise: A large portion of The Movies are this. In some places, it's hard to tell what's a Daydream Surprise and what isn't. There are even a few Daydream Surprise characters ...or are they?
• Direct to Video:
  • Fred's Got Talent was released Direct To DVD as a bonus feature on the Fred The Movie DVD.
  • I Wanna Be A Celebrity was originally released Direct To Digital Download through the official Fred store.
• Disappeared Dad: Fred's dad lives in the State Pen.
  • In the movies, however, his "dad" takes on the flesh of John Cena.
• Don't Try This At Home: In FRED Gets Animated Pt.2.
• DVD Commentary: The first movie has one by director Clay Weiner, writer David Goodman, and actor Lucas Cruikshank.
• Even Evil Has Standards: Kevin one time pretended to be Judy. Saying that he and Judy had broken up, and wanted to date Fred. When Judy found out she stated that was too far. Though Fred thought Judy was only acting.
• Flanderization: Inverted with The Movies, and for good reason: an entire two-hour movie where Fred talked in an incredibly annoying high-pitched, fast-paced voice would get old REAL fast. (He's still pitch-shifted, but not as much.)
• Fourth Wall Mail Slot: In FRED gets Animated part 1.
• Getting Crap Past the Radar: The Movies do this a lot.

• Missing Episode:
  • Fred Gets a Foreign Exchange Student was set to private a day and a half after being uploaded to YouTube. An unofficial reupload can be watched here.
  • While still accessible, Fred Fights Over the Computer and Fred Throws a Party! have since been set to unlisted, making them harder to find.
• The Movie: Two of 'em, both of which were intended for theaters but ended up premiering on Nickelodeon. (And the first one did make it to theaters in the UK.) Nickelodeon has also picked up a TV series (Fred: The Show) and greenlit a third movie (Fred Goes to Camp).
• No Ending: The Babysitter's a Vampire.
• The Other Darrin: Jennette McCurdy does not reprise her role as Bertha for Night of the Living Fred or Fred: The Show. Instead, we get Daniella Monet.
• Overly Long Gag: In the first movie, when he's faced with a car repairman who doesn't speak English, he thinks he is being messed with and proceeds to run away screaming, while we are shown brief shots of different areas (like near a fence, on a railroad track and even on a rollercoaster track). This continues until he runs into a live dam.
• Parental Abandonment: His mom loves bars and staying out late and is almost never there, and his "rock star" dad is on Death Row. The first movie implies that Fred's dad actually lived nearby (until the movie's events actually occur), and was never in jail (or a rock star), but FRED makes a Diorama has Fred's dad appear in jail.
• Pet the Dog: The end of the first movie--Fred's wacky scheme for instant popularity doesn't work, but Judy turns up at his house to sing with him. Maybe.
• Playing a Tree: Fred gets cast as a tree in the school production of Grease. And he loves it.
• Pottery Barn Poor: Fred and his mom. Also Judy, to a degree. Fred Lampshades this, saying that her trailer is bigger on the inside.
• "Previously On...": FRED Gets Animated Pt.2 opens with a clip from the end of FRED gets Animated part 1.
• Product Placement:
  • Newer episodes have the title character wearing the official licensed Fred(TM) t-shirt rather than the original hand-lettered one.
  • Fred Finds a Creepy Doll is all about Fred(TM) discovering one of the officially licensed talking Fred(TM) dolls. This kid doesn't miss a trick...
  • Even before that he was plugging Zip-its.
• Recycled: the Series: Fred: The Show.
• Santa Claus: Appears in Fred on Christmas, Christmas Cash, and Christmas is Creepy.
• Sdrawkcab Name: Derf from The Movies.
• Series Continuity Error: In I Wanna Be A Celebrity, Fred mentions his "first CD" while holding up a few copies of his second CD, Who's Ready to Party? With FRED. His first CD, mentioned in Fred Finds a Creepy Doll and Fred Talks About His Christmas Music, was It's Hackin' Christmas! With FRED. This error is especially Egregious since both CDs actually exist and are available for purchase.
• Similarly Named Works:
  • Fred Throws a Party! and Fred Throws a Party.
  • In an unfortunate coincidence, the first movie has the exact same name as the world's only pro-Fred Phelps documentary.
• Stalker with a Crush: Talia, Kevin's little sister from the second movie.
• Talk Show: The Figgle Chat series.
• Talky Bookends:
  • Watch How I Do This, Christmas Cash and The Babysitter's a Vampire have them at their beginnings.
  • Tater Haters has one at its end.
• Time Skip: Implied in the first movie (and, by extension, the second)--it's stated that Fred's 15 (and his voice isn't as high), whereas the YouTube videos state that he's 6.
• Trailers Always Lie: Nickelodeon's commercials for the second movie, AND HOW. Practically THE WHOLE COMMERCIAL was just John Cena's appearances, the Twilight Homage/TakeThat, the wrestling scene, and the first water g-IT'S A MASTER BLASTER! scene, ALL OF WHICH WAS IMAGINARY.
• Training Montage: In the Fred: The Show episode "The Expired Cow".
• Tuckerization: The Movies reveal that Kevin's family's last name is Libo, the same as writer David Goodman's cousins (as mentioned in the first movie's DVD Commentary).
• Under Crank: How Fred gets his high voice and fast movement.
• Unreliable Narrator: Even more so in The Movies, where half of the events don't even happen.
• Unnamed Parent: Both of Fred's parents were this, but their names were eventually revealed:
  • His mom's name is Hildegard (Hilda for short) in the second movie and Cherie in FRED Makes a Campfire, FRED makes a Diorama, and Fred Brings Cherie To School.
  • His dad's name is Fergus in FRED makes a Diorama.
