The series having spanned for two shows and a film, there are quite a bit of characters.

The Chick
The Ditz and Genius Ditz. Slids back and forth every episode. In one, she doesn't know how to read and in another, she's a chess prodigy. The second one pissed Maddie off because only Smart People Play Chess.
Fake Mixed Race: London Tipton's mother is revealed to be Thai and father is revealed to be white. London is played by Brenda Song, who is both Hmong and Thai.
Flanderization: Became dumber as the series progressed.
Jerk With a Heart of Gold
Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: The dark to Maddie's light.
Rich Bitch
Rich in Dollars, Poor In Sense
Tomboy and Girly Girl: Girly Girl to Bailey's Tomboy.
Upperclass Twit

But Not Too Black: Played With. Flashbacks show that Moseby became progressively less black as his career advanced. Occasionally, however, he'll say or do something to indicate that there's still a Soul Brotha in there somewhere.

Hates Being Touched
Official Couple: With Ms. Tutweiller towards the end of the series. He proposes to her at the Grand Finale.
Running Gag: In The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, he would usually find himself doing or saying something embarrassing in front of a hotel guest.
Scary Black Man: Subverted. While he is rather intimidating to the kids (even Alex Russo was afraid of Moseby), he usually means well, even if he is rather stern.

Actor Allusion: Maddie is played by Ashley Tisdale, who also plays Sharpay in High School Musical. This gets Lampshaded in one episode of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
