Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

This is the character roster for the Eternal Champions series.

The characters from the original Eternal Champions

Shadow Yamoto

A ninja assassin trained in Taijitsu and Ninjitsu from Tokyo, Japan 1993 A.D, Shadow worked for the Black Orchid Corporation, until she learned that the punishment for failure was death, and realised that she herself couldn't bring herself to kill others at the cost of her own morality. She decided to escape the organization in order to reveal the Black Orchid to the public authorities, but her superiors arranged her death and had her pushed off the 101st floor of their building before she could blow the whistle.

If she had survived, Shadow's knowledge of many of the Black Orchid's darkest secrets - which would have affected many business strategies and the lives of thousands of people well into the 21st Century - would have been made public.

R.A.X. Coswell

A cyborg professional Muay-Thai kickboxer from the year 2345 A.D. Originally fully human, R.A.X. (Robotic Artificial Exoskeleton) underwent painful surgery to gain cybernetic implants so he could compete in "cyber fights" and remain relevant at a time when interest in martial arts was waning. R.A.X. began winning many of his fights, but was eventually betrayed by his manager, who enacted a virus in his cybernetics to shut him down before he could land the winning blow in a major tournament, killing him in the process... because R.A.X. refused to throw fights for money.

Had R.A.X. survived, he would have been able to reveal the corruption of the cyborg fights and return the competition to more humane human-only fights.

Jonathan Blade

A former police officer from the year 2030 A.D. Trained in Kenpo karate, Blade became a bounty hunter in his home country of Syria after being thrown off the police force for anger management issues. At the time of his death, Blade was in deep pursuit of a mad scientist who had threatened to destroy the human race with a lethal virus. After finally trapping the scientist in an alley, Blade attempted to retrieve the virus. The situation ended up being a setup, as Blade and the scientist were hit with a stream of lasers (presumably fired by agents of Blade's own government), immediately killing both men, and causing the scientist to drop the vial containing the virus.

If Blade survived, he would have been able to save the scientist from being shot and force himself to restrain his anger, reporting the incident... which would, in turn, help bring about several worldwide government reforms and establish a world peace council to bring stability to the world.

Jetta Maxx

A young Russian woman from the year 1899 who is a master of Savate/Pencak Silat. Jetta abandoned her aristocratic lifestyle to become a circus acrobat and travel the world; during her tour of China, she was encouraged to help in ending the Boxer Rebellion by infiltrating a particular group to become paficists before military forces from afar would intervene. Jetta soon became the target of a Chinese revolutionary, and she fell to her death during a performance for the grand emperor of China after her sabotaged tightrope and safety net snapped.

Had Jetta survived, the Chinese government would become shameful of the attempted murder and further demand peaceful negotiations from certain groups to settle on a peace plan and implant full democratic control of their own country.

Slash

A caveman from the Prehistoric Great Rift Valley in the year 50,000 BC whose fighting style is simply called "Pain" (as in, to cause as much pain as possible within one's opponents). Slash showed superior intelligence compared to the rest of his tribe, expressing ideas such as implanting agriculture to free his clan from a life of hunting-and-gathering. His ways of thinking drew the ire of his tribe's elders, who lured him to a meeting and stoned him to death for daring to speak out against them in public.

Slash's victory in the Eternal Tournament would allow him to use the skills learnt from competing in the tournament to defeat the elders and become leader of his clan, where his ideas would advance mankind's progress into a history of peace and intelligence.

Trident

A gladiator from Atlantis (circa 110 BC). He fights using Capoeira, and was named after the trident that replaced the hand he lost during a fight with a shark. He represented Atlantis and its people in a battle against the Romans, and had he won, Atlantis would have received a share of land alongside the Romans. Due to a Roman gladiator's treachery, Trident was crushed underneath a falling stone pillar before he could strike the winning blow; the people of Atlantis were forever banished to live underwater because of his loss.

If Trident had survived, he would have defeated—but not killed—his Roman opponent, instead choosing to work towards forming an alliance between Romans and Atlanteans so that both cultures would survive and unite their strengths together into an advanced utopian future.

Xavier Pendragon

A former blacksmith from Salem, Massachusetts in the year 1692; he was trained in the art of Hapkido and Cane Fighting. After failing as a blacksmith, Xavier turned to alchemy and eventually discovered a clean, unlimited source of energy. After showing his discovery to the townspeople, they denounced Xavier's science as witchcraft, and he was burned at the stake for being a warlock.

Should Xavier be returned back to his life, he would trick the townspeople to burn his tools with him; he would then use his newfound energy source to break free from his bonds, then use its immense power to travel throughout history to increase knowledge of science and tolerance in the unusual. His escape would also make the townspeople believe they had burned the last warlock, bringing an end to the Salem witch trials.

"They all wish you luck in their different ways. Xavier launches into a long speech and has to be shut up."

  • Phlebotinum Overload: For the Cinakill, the Dark Champion causes Xavier's scepter to overload, disintegrating him.
  • Shrink Ray: His Vendetta move.
  • Sufficiently Analyzed Magic: To be fair, you can hardly blame the puritans for being confused, seeing as this guy can shoot a magic dragon out of his staff or turn people to gold.

Mitchell Middleton Knight ("MidKnight")

A London-born CIA biochemical scientist trained in the art of Jeet Kune Do. In 1967, Knight was assigned to make a biological weapon intended to be poured into the water supply of Vietnam during the war; a freak accident exposed him to the virus, turning him into a vampire-like creature. Refusing to harm and kill others despite his inherent bloodlust, MidKnight spent over a century trying to invent a cure for his dilemma. In the year 2100, as he neared the discovery of the cure, MidKnight was killed by a vampire hunter who drove a magnesium stake through his heart.

If he had survived the surprise attack, MidKnight would have escaped to his lab and finished his work in perfecting the cure; he would eventually find one for others, but remain unable to heal himself (due to the unique chemistry of his affliction). In spite of this, MidKnight would become president of the World Science Organisation and—thanks to his immortality—diligently eradicate all known diseases of mankind.

Larcen Tyler

An ex-cat burglar from 1920s Chicago, trained in Praying Mantis Kung Fu. Larcen worked for a Chicago mob, and though he carried out many dubious jobs for his bosses, he adamantly refused to kill anyone. One day, he received orders to plant false evidence in the hospital room of a rival crime boss; upon his arrival at the hospital, Larcen found the Chief of Police instead of the rival boss. Realizing the package was a bomb, Larcen attempted to throw it out the window, but was not fast enough... the subsequent blast killed Larcen, the Police Chief and most of the people in the hospital.

Had Larcen realised his folly sooner, he would have disposed of the bomb quicker and be taken to the recovering chief to be commended for his bravery. He would later be made a member of a special governmental task force on organized crime; in the following months, Larcen would take down his former bosses during the process of helping the task group ensure the eradication of organised crime forever.

Eternal Champion

An extraterrestrial monitoring the cosmic balance of good and evil. He resides in the far future (9999 A.D.) where mankind has already destroyed itself. The Champion has summoned fighters from across time to compete against each other for a chance to face the him and reclaim their souls. The victor will return to Earth with the chance to change their fate and restore balance to the universe.

The characters introduced in Challenge from the Dark Side

Riptide

A pirate trained in the art of Kajukenbo from 1566 A.D. Sophia De Medici was a member of the infamous Italian family, but she eventually renounced her name and status when she became a pirate, going only by the name "Riptide". When pirate/crime boss Hannibal killed her while protecting some buried treasure, he discovered who she was and destroyed the entire De Medici family through his criminal organizations, which resulted in the destruction of works by Leonardo DaVinci that could have resulted in a future renaissance.

If she had survived, Riptide would have not only protected her family to ensure that future renaissance, but she would have also formed a powerful organization to protect the sea from the threats of piracy, illegal hunting of sea animals, and pollution.

Ramses III

An Egyptian pharaoh from 151 BC who was trained in Hung-Gar Kung-Fu. Ramses was the last strong pharaoh of Egypt, and had he not been killed by an assassin who sent him into the Nile River (Ramses never learned how to swim), he could have fathered the son that would have been his successor and successfully prevented the downfall of Egypt via outside invasion. Ramses' murder led Egypt to be conquered by invaders such as Alexander the Great, damning humanity to a future without spirit and originality while rendering it devoid of many cultures.

If Ramses III had survived, he would have not only eliminated those who threatened to usurp his rule, but would have also made sure to preserve many of the treasures and knowledge of his people so that mankind would be able to learn from them and ascend to higher knowledge in the future.

Raven Gindhar

A voodoo priestess from 1802 A.D trained in both Hsing-I Kung-Fu and Tae Kwon Do. Kidnapped from her home and integrated into a village in Trinidad, Raven eventually won the hearts of the villagers through her unusual healing power, which revolved around an ancient artifact handed down through her family: an hourglass that allows for control of a small portion of time in exchange for part of the user's life. Raven eventually drew the ire of the village's aging high priest, who lured her into his tent and turned the hourglass against her, killing her and rejuvinating himself in the process.

If Raven was returned to life, she would reverse the spell to drain the high priest of his power, draining him of his life and filling the hourglass to a perfect balance between good and evil. She would then hand it to the Eternal Champion, becoming his companion in order to continue their mission of keeping mankind safe.

Dawson McShane

A Scotsman from 1849 A.D who developed a hybrid of fighting styles he called Shotowando. Dawson was a professional gambler who traveled from Europe to America's Wild West in search of adventure (and a good fight); it was his arrival in a small mining town that triggered his death. Dawson ran afoul of a powerful landowner whose son had killed the sheriff. The sheriff's final act was to deputize Dawson, but the townsfolk were fearful of the landowner, and they strung up Dawson for the murder before the landowner's son could be prosecuted for it.

If Dawson had lived, he would have prevented himself from being hung and killed both the landowner and his son, ensuring a flexible sense of justice into a fearsome but incorruptible force in the Wild West, which would help good folk live free.

Thanatos

The Greek God of Death, who controls Time and Fate. Thanatos was interrupted in his role in 1692 A.D by an indeterminate force that managed to weaken him, in the form of a warlock who was killed during the Salem witch hunts. This warlock, using powers that were greater than Thanatos', defeated the god and took over his position, changing the rules of death in the process and taking people's lives before their time.

If Thanatos won the tournament, he would be taken to the station of the Eternal Champion and Raven, taking up the mantle as the master of Time itself. He would replace Kronos—who had gone mad from the assault of the same entity who attacked Thanatos—and prevent time from falling apart due to the actions of said unknown force.

Chin Wo

A Chinese acupuncturist from 1815 A.D who was a master in Monkey Kung-Fu. Despite his penchant for healing, it was Chin's skill as a fighter that brought about his death. When challenged to a fight by a cousin of the ruling class, Chin refused to fight, since losing would shame him and winning would mean his death; in an attempt to goad Chin into the fight, the cousin framed him for the murder of a beggar, but instead of fighting, Chin chose to be executed for the crime.

If he won the tournament, Chin would implement a trick learnt from MidKnight to stare into the cousin's soul and force him to reveal the truth, freeing Chin to continue his life as a healer. Chin would also become a symbol for truth, implementing a system of civil courts that would solve the vast majority of civil rights issues well into the 21st century.

Thomas "Blast" Chavez

A Green Beret fighting in the Vietnam war; as a chopper pilot, he was tasked with making drops of weapons over enemy lines. Chavez' death occured before his final run: his partner, "Redux", revealed himself to be a Vietnamese double agent and killed Chavez with a grenade just as he was taking off.

If he won the tournament, Blast would take out Redux before he had a chance to betray him, then dedicate his life to rescue the men who had fought wars and been left behind—not only with his own actions, but also an immense amount of funding efforts.

Dark Champion

The Yang to the Eternal Champion's Ying, and the true final boss of The Dark Side.

An American politician from 1995 A.D. who fights using "Dishonesty". The Senator was a lifelong supporter of special interests, but after lobbyists discovered that he'd voted against them on a human rights issue, they turned their support to his opponent; the Senator's defeat in a landslide election, which he spent millions trying to win, caused him to have a heart attack.

If he had survived, the Senator would have attempted to make up for his years of civil abuse, proclaiming to expose all of his lies... as well as the lies of those around him in the halls of Washington. His scandalous revelations would destroy his chances of re-election, but also mark him as a changed noble man. He would make millions with his book and talk show appearances.
