  • Anvilicious: The aesops have a tendency to be this.
  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Vicky: a Complete Monster who tortures kids For the Evulz and complete psychopath or it is possible that she has a Freudian Excuse for her actions and had Dark and Troubled Past which made her the way she is now. The episode "Snow Bound" suggests that she had rough childhood.
    • Trixie Tang: In "The Boy Who Would Be Queen" we find out that Trixie secretly loves boy-oriented things and her Alpha Bitch behaviour is an attempt to hide this. Does she have genuine feelings for Timmy but acts like jerk and represses her love for him because she wants to remain popular? In "Fairy Idol" The Pixies wanted to be fairygodparents to Trixie, implying that she is Stepford Smiler.
    • Timmy's Jerkass behaviour in season 5 may have been caused by episode "It's Wishful Life" where he finds out that the world was better without him and everyone didn't care about him. He must have felt hurt and humilliated, so he began acting like a Jerkass towards his godparents and friends out of anger and knowing that they don't care him at all and wants revenge against them.
    • Cosmo: Read the Fridge Horror entry about possibility that he maybe pretending to be stupid and that all the disaster he made WERE NOT ACCIDENT and that may mean that Cosmo is a complete Jerkass who pretends to be stupid.
  • Ass Pull: Lots of it. The show usually gets away with this through Rule of Funny.
  • Base Breaker: Cosmo (after his voice change), Trixie, Baby Poof.
  • Broken Base: The live action movie and Wishology.
  • Cargo Ship: Referenced in Spaced Out!
  • Continuity Porn: Escape from Unwish Island. It basically contains references to... the entire series up to that point, I guess.
  • Critical Research Failure: One episode treats the giant squid as a mythological creature. It's a real species.
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: The show has many Crowning Moments, notably the first Wishology movie, "The Big Beginning", in which Timmy solves everything, SINGLE-HANDEDLY, without making a single frickin' wish! (You know, it's the series' premise...) Not to mention the amounts of Genre Savvy, as seen in the trope's entry below.
  • Crowning Moment of Funny: Perhaps the best one was in "Mother Nature", where Timmy's mom is busy at her job as a weatherwoman... so his dad decides to make him a new mom, in the form of a hand-puppet. Voiced by Dad.

Timmy: What would Mom say if she saw you like this?
Dad: I don't know. Lets ask her while I drink this glass of water. (In Mom voice) I think you're being too hard on Timmy. (Spit-takes, normal voice) Oh, of course you'd take his side.
Timmy: No amount of therapy will ever make this moment seem okay.

  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming (The ending of the more recent episode Bad Heir Day certainly applies. Let's just say the bond that forms between Mr. Crocker and Denzel Jr. DJ Poof is bound to make one go "awww".
  • Crowning Music of Awesome:
    • "My Shiny Teeth and Me."
    • As well as "Find Your Voice."
  • Designated Hero: Timmy Turner, for several reasons
  • Designated Villain: Jorgen in Action Packed, Timmy in Nega Timmy, the popular kids in Scary Godparents. Foop in Spellamentary School.
  • Die for Our Ship: Many fans of love interests such as Tootie, Trixie, and even slash fans, tend to relentlessly bash each other's couples.
  • Draco in Leather Pants: Juandissimo isn't necessarily evil, but he's too sexy for his own sexiness.
  • Deconstruction Fic: Cosmo and Wanda's failing relationship, Norm The Genie often deconstructed.
  • Driven to Suicide: Timmy very nearly in the Wonderful Life subversion episode, It's A Wishful Life, although neither the word suicide nor the word death is spoken, Timmy's offer to erase himself from existence is essentially an offer to kill himself.
  • Dude, Not Funny: Timmy's parents will occassionally fall into this trope in their worst moments of neglect toward Timmy and when these actions supposedly are Played for Laughs.
  • Genius Bonus: Catman. His costume is a Shout-Out to an old, throwaway Batman villain of the same name from Detective Comics.
  • Ear Worm:
    • "Timmy is an average kid, who no one understands..."
    • "Shiny Teeth" is far catchier than a song about teeth has any right to be.
    • Not to mention "Find Your Voice" is catchy in its own right.
    • "V! I! C-K-Y! The sound of her name makes the little kids cry!" Let's face it, any time Chip sings, it qualifies for this.
    • "Adults ruin everything! But kids would run things right!"
    • "We're pixies! We're pixies! Check out our mad wicked mixies!"
    • Get Timmy Turner!
    • "These are the unfundementals, for us fairy godparentals, who are now devoid of wishing out of mirth!"

  • Family-Unfriendly Aesop:
    • The Wonderful Life Subversion "It's A Wishful Life": Timmy Turner, a proxy for the kids in the audience, is told everyone is better off without him. And if that isn't enough, Jorgen tells Timmy the reason he's a victim of bullying and abuse is because he exists. In other words, blaming the victim.
    • Made even worse by the fact that the things Jorgen shows him make no sense: Mr. and Mrs. Turner have a mansion and a daughter who's won several academy awards, Francis is not a gray-skinned bully, AJ has a full head of hair and graduated from high school when he was 5, Crocker is a purple-haired Harvard professor, Chester has a triple-wide trailer on gold blocks, Vicky works in the hospital spraying laughing gas, Elmer doesn't have a boil on his nose, and the Chicago Cubs have won the World Series.
      • Though since Jorgen willing wishes him back into existence at the end once he's learned his lesson, it might be that he was trying to make Timmy realize how selfish he was and that he should do things for the good of others. Which is a fairly solid aesop, except that it makes no sense.
    • Mooooving Day's moral appears to be "Don't drink milk, it will brainwash you." This one might be intentional, though.
  • Foe Yay: Vicky, and Timmy as Gah
  • Funny Aneurysm Moment:
    • It's hard to laugh at Jeno Leno portrayed as a superhero now, given some recent events
    • Especially during an episode where Timmy wished to become a superhero named the Masked Magician, Crimson Chin can't think of him as anything more than his sidekick Cleft... much like a certain comedian/talk show host...
  • Genre Savvy: In later seasons, Timmy arguable has a better understanding on how to use Da Rules and the workings of the fairy world. By the time of the live action movie, he has figured out a loop hole allowing him to keep his fairies well beyond their due date.
  • Growing the Beard: The sixth and seventh seasons for some.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: in one episode, the President had a button that blew up Pluto. Cosmo pushes it.... and nobody cares.
    • There's another instance of this in another episode, one of the things on Timmy's to do list is checking out the moons of Pluto.
  • Ho Yay: Now has its own page now.
  • I Want My Jetpack: Parodied
  • Idiot Plot
  • Jerkass Woobie: Timmy. Remy Buxaplenty is also a jerk and a Woobie to some, however he lacks the hidden nice side necessary to be a Jerkass Woobie.
  • Les Yay: Veronica is obsessed with Trixie. Still, oddly enough, this is actually considered a subversion by the fandom. General opinion holds that Veronica's obsession with Trixie is, in turn, due to Timmy being obsessed with Trixie, at the very least an extremely unhealthy case of posessiveness if not outright jealousy. And Veronica likes Timmy with the "burning passion of a thousand suns", as it stands.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Anti-Cosmo's Plan in the Jimmy Timmy Power Hour 2 When Nerds Collide has shades of this.
  • Memetic Badass: Watch "Twistory" and tell me if George frickin' Washington hasn't got the traits of one. I. Dare. You.
  • Memetic Mutation: Dinkleberg...
    • "And here's where I'd put X, IF I HAD ONE!"
    • FAIRY GODPARENTS!!!
    • "We're going to read The Little Dolphin Who Cried [insert sound here]."

  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Timmy Turner's parents pretty much cross this as the series continues. They go from busy and clueless to extremely negligent parents
    • Vicky crosses it in the TV film, "Channel Chasers", when she frames Timmy for destroying his family's portrait, burning down his family's grand piano, and writing spray paint on the living room wall just to see Timmy suffering a horrible punishment from his parents.
    • The Pixies crossed this in "School's Out: The Musical" with the revealed they'd kidnapped a child and raised him for his entire life as their own personal Tyke Bomb to try and take over Fairy World and the Earth.
    • The Anti-Fairies crossed this (and if "School's Out" wasn't their's, this certainly is for the Pixies) by using Poof as a weapon to destroy Fairy World for revenge, then choosing to destroy the Earth For the Evulz.
    • The whole gambit Norm pulled in "Fairy Idol". He was already a Jerkass Genie, but the way he ruins Timmy's and Chester's lives is just terrible.
  • Negative Continuity: Largely due to constantly switching writers. It's most notorious since the relaunch of the series while the earlier seasons, instead, are plenty of Continuity Nods.
  • Never Live It Down: Just the Two of Us! for Trixie, Homewrecker for Tootie (over a single spoken line no less), and quite possibly the producers of the show for the episode, It's a Wishful Life, a very sadistic Wonderful Life subversion, as well as the character of Jorgen Von Strangle for very cruelly and sadistically showing Timmy the subversion.

  • Paranoia Fuel: To an extent. Plenty of teenagers have freaked out over the thought of what if, just what if they had fairy godparents of their own at some point and have now forgotten all about them, like Da Rules say in the show?
  • Rooting for the Empire: Sometimes.
  • Ruined FOREVER:
    • Some claim this when Poof joined the cast.
    • Again with the new movie, though many reactions are less unrestrained fury and more sheer disbelief.
  • Sadist Show: The series has become eventually this.
  • Screwed by the Network: For the year 2011, FOP was promised a year-long 10th year anniversary celebration. However, only a handful of new episodes and a live action movie were released, mostly during the summer, and the rumored anniversary special either became the live action movie or doesn't exist.
  • Schedule Slip: As noted there was supposedly a year long celebration of The Fairly Oddparents tenth anniversary, but nothing has happened or is going to happen in the month of April. In addition, there are several shows from the SEVENTH season, even though the Eighth Season Premiere was shown , that have yet to be shown. In all likelihood, the celebration will happen and the episodes will be shown, but not for a long time.
  • Seasonal Rot: YMMV, but general consensus is either after the first or second movie or when Poof was born.
  • Ship Mates: Trixie/Remy and Veronica/Chester for Timmy/Tootie fans.
  • Ship-to-Ship Combat: Between Timmy/Trixie and Timmy/Tootie fans. Fans of the former like the concept of an incredibly rich girl falling in love with an average kid, with Trixie's tomboy qualities (as seen in "The Boy Who Would be Queen") further stoking the flames - in fact, it's practically become a Fandom-Specific Plot to make Trixie a complete tomboy in Timmy/Trixie fics. The fans of the latter like Tootie's dedication towards Timmy the most.
  • Tear Jerker: Bad Heir Day. "Goodbye, DJ...I'll miss you..."

Crocker: (Hugs Poof, eyes start to water)) Be strong (Lets go)..n-no tears....(Breaks down sobbing).

    • The ending of the Channel Chasers movie where grown-up Timmy finds an old photo of himself, and the fishbowl... But he can't recognize his fairy godparents. It's more of a Bittersweet Ending, but you still almost have to hold back tears.
    • In "Fairy Idol", the moment where Timmy finds out that Cosmo and Wanda can't be his fairies anymore, even if they accepted his apology, the only thing they can do is walk him home. Of course, they get better, but its still a sad moment.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • Some felt The Big Superhero Wish and Wishology should have had more action, and that Tootie should have been involved in the latter. Also, Trixie fans believe her tomboy nature should have been explored more.
    • A lot of fans cried foul after viewing Escape From UnWish Island, feeling it was horrible use of a potential villain (in this case, Gary, Timmy's former imaginary friend) who wasn't even wished away in the first place and especially the Ass Pull ending the writers came up with.
  • Toy Ship: Several involving Timmy.
  • Ugly Cute:
    • Tootie
    • Mr. Crocker falls under this as well. It's even parodied in-universe in that Timmy's Dad thinks the hunchbacked, scrawny, ear-on-his-neck-for-some-reason teacher is gorgeous.
  • Unfortunate Implications:
    • When Timmy wishes that his dad were the smartest dad on Earth, he along with the rest of the Dimmsdale Science Symposium is unable to understand the ideas of love or sadness. Apparently, being incredibly smart means you have no understanding of basic human emotions.
    • At one point in "The Boss Of Me" Tootie is shown writing "I love Timmy" over and over again obsessively. In the next scene, Dinkleberg is doing the same thing.
    • When the Yugopotanians are first introduced, it's made clear that they're terrified of innocent things like chocolate and flowers because it is deadly and poisonous to them, and can burn their flesh. But in later episodes Timmy says they're afraid of them because the aliens are just idiots. That's... a bad way of talking about cultural/ biological differences.
    • Chester's Flanderization into a stereotype of poor/lower class people (filthy and stupid).
    • The episode "Twistory" features Timmy accidentally altering history so that the US remained a British Colony. In said AU, everyone speaks in a stereotypical cockney accent, has poor hygene, and have never progressed beyond the 1700s. Combine this with the stereotype that Americans think only they have caused anything good to happen in recent history, and you can see why this episode is rarely shown in reruns.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Norm the Genie
  • Unpopular Popular Character: Tootie
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: Poof is a boy. Yes, he wears pink and has purple eyes. Real Men Wear Pink, after all. And he has a water gun.
  • Wangst: "Not on the List" from Merry Wishmas.
  • The Woobie: Tootie
  • Woolseyism: In the Brazilian dub, the episode where Cosmo, who is voiced by Guilherme Briggs, the Brazilian Norio Wakamoto, gives birth to Poof (It Makes Sense in Context), he grabs Timmy by the collar and yells: "PEDE PRA SAIR! PEDE PRA SAIR!" ("ASK TO GET! ASK TO GET OUT!"). This is a reference to the Memetic Mutation of the movie The Elite Squad (which, by the way, it's not kid-friendly, but this didn't impede the line to become a meme) and arguably a CMOA for Brazilian voice acting (the original line of the movie is more properly translated as "Ask to quit!" but in Portuguese the word "sair" can mean both cases).
  • What the Hell, Casting Agency?:
    • Jason Alexander as Cosmo in the live-action movie? Really?
    • Subverted. It turned out Daran Norris was voicing him. Alexander just appeared as a disguise.
