Total Drama Chris

A pair of Total Drama Island fanfictions by Frank15 that are considered by some in the Total Drama fandom to be second best or even better than Total Drama Comeback Series.

The first story, "Total Drama Chris", has the contestants return for a second season of Total Drama where one of them wins $1,000,000. There are new teams such as The Screaming Pansies and The Killer Chrises and certain friendships, conflicts, and relationships are given some development. There's even a Total Drama Aftermath-like show called Total Drama Izzy. A lot of contestants have some time in the limelight but arguably there are three Break Out Characters: Lindsay, Katie, and Heather. Lindsay is intent on proving that she's not just another Dumb Blonde, Katie is shown to actually be quite smart and independent, and Heather also comes back in hopes of seeking redemption and making some friends.

The sequel, "Total Drama Alphabet, is hosted by Izzy and Bridgette and features twenty-six new contestants (one for each letter of the alphabet), that can be found on the author's Deviant ART account Total-Drama-Alphabet here. The story is ongoing.

All Girls Want Bad Boys: Hank from Alphabet (much to his Chagrin) believes this.
Alternative Character Interpretation: In-universe, several. Lindsay, Katie and Heather's changes are already listed above; Ezekiel is a well-meaning but easily confused Fish Out of Water; Justin is a Manipulative Bastard and utterly self-absorbed Jerkass; Leshawna benefited from Manipulative Editing hiding that her grudge against Heather wasn't just sparked by Heather's own actions...
Always Someone Better: Alistair boasts that he has one yacht; Katrina has 15.
Ambiguously Brown: Lampshaded when Leshawna asks whether Courtney counts as a 'sister' or not.
Artist Disillusionment: It is taking a long time for the fanfic to ever get updated, due to the author's ongoing vendetta against one of his diehard fans.
As Long as It Sounds Foreign: In several episodes of Alphabet, Izzy speaks Spanish. Or what passes for it, at least...
The Atoner: Heather, and also Leshawna later on.
Bait and Switch: The contestants on Total Drama Alphabet are clearly being set up for a Phobia Factor-like challenge, where the interns are forcing them to reveal their fears, mostly by using drinks laced with truth serum.
- However, as it turns out, the contestants are really going to be scaring the interns.
Berserk Button: Don't mess with Lindsay in front of Tyler.
Break the Haughty: Heather.
Bluffing The Smug Snake: This is how Justin gets eliminated in TD Chris: Cody accuses them of what they actually did, then pulls out a tape. They immediately go after them, after which Cody mocks them for going through all that effort just to snag a blank tape -- and why would they do that, unless they were afraid that it proved what they'd just been accused of?
Blunt Metaphors Trauma: Ezekiel suffers from this.
Butt Monkey: Chris.

Card-Carrying Villain: Todd from Alphabet
Carried by the Host: Chris thinks this of the Total Drama series, and does not appreciate being told otherwise.
Character Development: Chris' bane. He views the entire cast as Flat Characters, and actively tries to cram them back into their respective stereotypes.
Character Exaggeration: Chris was always a Jerkass, but here he's apparently Level Grinded to Complete Monster levels, to the point where he makes jokes about hoping to see campers kill themselves after friendships break up.
Chekhov's Gun: Noah's book.
Creator Backlash: The author absolutely despises Hank, as too many readers take his "nice guy" label at face value, instead of ironically, as was intended.
Cycle of Revenge: A major theme in TD Chris is trying to stop this cycle.
Darker and Edgier: Chris swiftly decays from a 'mere' Jerkass to a Complete Monster with a personal vendetta against several campers. People are hurt, sometimes very seriously, in the name of getting 'revenge' -- and this is carried at times to the point where some are even willing to attempt murder. Racism is directly addressed, along with other unfortunate stereotypes.
Designated Villain: Frederique is this to Rachel and Xuxa, he even complains about it.
The Determinator: Danielle, due to her supermassive ego.
Divergent Character Evolution: Katie and Sadie. Katie is established as smarter and a fiercely temperamental Tsundere Tomboy, while Sadie is the "nice one" to the point that she's practically a Distaff Counterpart to Canon!DJ. The fact that this reverses their designations as "the nice one" and "the smart one" in their canon profiles is Lampshaded and Justified as an in-universe example of They Just Didn't Care.
Disproportionate Retribution: LeShawna spilled Gwen's secret to the world. Her reply: letting her almost die in the hot box.
The Ditz: Bob from Alphabet
Draco in Leather Pants: In-universe, Danielle calls Duncan this.
Drama Bomb: the fourth episode of total drama izzy, where Izzy brings on Le Shawna's abusive former friend Madison, forcing a confrontation.
Dumb Blonde: Harold's ex girlfriend Autumn; she actually makes Lindsay look like Albert Einstein by comparison.
Elimination Houdini: Chris views Katie as this, and isn't afraid of letting everyone know it.
Even Evil Has Standards: Chris devolves into such a Complete Monster that Chef starts protesting that he's going too far.
Everything's Better with Bob - More accurately, Everything's Stupider With Bob
Exact Words: Used in several instances of Loophole Abuse.
Executive Meddling: Both negative and positive examples:
- Negative: Chris ramps his abuse of his position as show host Up to Eleven and flagrantly tries to bend the rules in his own contract to give himself even more control.
- Positive: Chris' superiors at the network override several of his demands and abuses, resulting in the Aftermath-like Total Drama Izzy and aiding Izzy as a Spanner in the Works of Chris' scheming. By the end of Total Drama Chris, they're so sick of Chris' drama that they drop him like a bad habit.
Fallen Princess: Heather.
Fan Dumb: In-universe, Played for Laughs and seriously during the Total Drama Izzy segments. Izzy is not happy with all the bashing that goes on in the fandom, nope nope!
Follow the Leader: Total Drama Letterz, written by Cragmiteblaster, and Total Drama Alphabetized, written by Haters Go To Heaven, both inspired by Total Drama Alphabet's theme.
Freaky Friday Flip: Danielle and Ophelia experience one in Episode 11 of Alphabet.
Freudian Excuse: Harold despises Lindsay due to one of these: she reminds him of Autumn, a Dumb Blonde who humiliated him after their date went badly. According to him, anyway.
- Leshawna also turns out to have a big motivation for despising people like Heather: she used to be friends with a girl named Madison until Madison's racist mother found out she was black and got a restraining order against her. Years later, they ended up attending the same high school; sadly, Madison had become an Alpha Bitch by that point and went out of her way to torment Leshawna, egged on by racist teachers.
Fridge Logic: If Noah is reading a calculus book, why doesn't he make any exercises?
The Gadfly: Chris.
Groin Attack: Several. Part of the reason Chris develops such a hate-on for Katie is her landing one of these on him while humiliating him in an early episode.
Heroic Sacrifice: Considering whom she was dealing, Rachel had to perform one to keep Katrina in the game.
Heterosexual Life Partners: Katie and Sadie. Implying otherwise is a big Berserk Button for Katie.
Hide Your Lesbians: Averted with Nicole (with hilarious results when Todd tried to hit on her) and Rain.

Hoist by His Own Petard: Chris; just as he tries to find loopholes to inflict more pain on the contestants and eliminate who he wants to see gone, so too do the contestants find and exploit loopholes in his poorly thought-out challenges. And it's a loophole in his contract that allows his producers to fire him at the end of TD Chris.
Humiliation Conga: Day 5 outlines one: Heather was invited to the prom, only to be stood up by her date, who was actually dating her former best friend. Another former friend of hers whom she'd tormented for being a lesbian invites her to dance, only for both of them to draw further mocking. It Got Worse.
Irony: Lampshaded throughout Day 8 of TD Chris; particularly ironic comments are followed by an innocently oblivious Lindsay rambling on to the Confession Cam about how her maid is good at making everything "nice and irony".
Is This Thing Still On??: Chris frequently insists that anything that incriminates him should be edited out of that episode.
Large Ham: Harold as Air Man definetly counts.
Late Arrival Spoiler: From the first episode of Total Drama Alphabet:

Izzy: "Last season, on Total Drama Chris, Katie won a million dollars, and you've just been spoiled, so ha!"

Loophole Abuse: Used as a Running Gag during the Sailor Moon challenge, and as a lesser Running Gag with later challenges. Chris doesn't plan things out too well, and hates getting called on it -- all the more reason to do so, of course.
- Naturally, Chris engages in this himself. While his contract keeps him from rigging the vote to eliminate any competitors he dislikes or directly interfering with challenges, he eggs on other contestants to do his dirty work. Ultimately turned against him by the network when they use a loophole in his contract to fire him at the end of Total Drama Chris.
Malcolm Xerox: Isis from Alphabet is a rare female example.
Manipulative Editing: Used to explain Leshawna's Alternative Character Interpretation: according to Heather, they were both in the wrong during Island, but Leshawna's nastier behavior was edited out to avoid accusations of Unfortunate Implications and to cast Heather as the Big Bad.
- Chris and Justin both expect to benefit from this. Chris constantly orders the film crew to "edit out" any unflattering moments, while the latter gives a Hannibal Lecture about how they'll be edited to look like the victim while their victims are made into the bad guys, thanks to their 'connections'.
Meaningful Name: According to Chris, the team names were meant to be meaningful: he deliberately filled the Killer Chrises with who he saw as the strongest players, expecting the Screaming Pansies to get the tar whupped out of them. Towards the ending, this takes on a different meaning: the fact that the Killer Chrises only start surviving after they've been reduced to the two members he outright hates completely kills what's left of Chris' cool.
Must Make Amends: Leshawna tries to do this after their Moral Event Horizon moment.
Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Katie accidentally causes Sadie's elimination by pressuring Noah to vote for them after a fight... and forgetting to tell him to change his vote to someone else after they make up.
Not So Different: Leshawna and Heather. Which foreshadows Leshawna's attempts to become The Atoner after she goes too far in TD Chris.
Now or Never Kiss: Eva and Cody get one during the 'Fear Multiple' challenge. Played with via another couple, Noah and Katie, who only kiss after the danger has passed.

Katie: "Aww. That would be so sweet if we weren't about to all die."

One Steve Limit: Averted and commented on; while comparing notes about their backstories, the campers are surprised at how many evil Jewels there apparently are.
The Ophelia: Take a wild guess.
Out-of-Character Moment: DJ snaps and gives his teammates a tongue-lashing just before his elimination. He stays in a bad mood for several episodes, only snapping out of it after the first installment of Total Drama Izzy. A later author's note mentions that the writer struggled with his character, and even eliminated him earlier than originally planned because of this.
Out of Focus: There's a contestant named Zack on Total Drama Alphabet? Really?

Parody Sue: Danielle from Alphabet
Product Placement: One episode revolves entirely around McDonalds, with Chris shilling the restaurant every chance he gets.
Purple Prose: Trent's fanfic, just Trent's fanfic.
Reformed but Rejected: Heather struggles with this; the problem is only amplified by Chris doing his damnest to shove her back into the role of villain.
Relative Error: When Heather believes Geoff and Marilee are on a date.
Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Katie and Sadie are given Divergent Character Evolution while retaining their close friendship. Chris also develops a personal grudge against Katie and begins openly gunning for her, Lampshading her usual Scrappy status by insisting that she's the most annoying creature EVER.
Rule of Three: During Day 4's 'secret challenge', Chris is punched out three times in a row, by Trent, Tyler and ~~Cody~~ Chef.
Running Gag: Throughout the series, the cast frequently performs a Last-Second Word Swap on the title, replacing Chris's name with somebody else's, much to the host's frustration.
Serial Escalation: As you read, some questions arise, like how much of a Jerkass can Chris get? How worse the next Moral Event Horizon can be? How "evil" can Todd's plans be?
Shallow Love Interest: Tyler
Shout-Out: The series takes several cues from Total Drama Comeback, including a few of its Crack Pairings.
- One challenge is based off of Sailor Moon. References are made to both the original series and the English dub, with Noah expressing shock that Lindsay is only familiar with the subbed version.
- Another is based on Pac-Man.
- And yet another is based on Sesame Street. I'm not kidding.
Spanner in the Works: Izzy.
Spoiled Sweet: Lindsay and Katrina.
Straw Misogynist: Invoked when the campers have to Cosplay as each other: Justin is assigned Ezekiel, and takes advantage of this to gleefully spout the most sexist rhetoric he can come up with. Chris also gleefully encourages sexist comments, though it's unclear whether he actually believes this or is just trying to stir up yet more trouble; either way, it fits with his higher level of Jerkass.
Squee: A trademark of Katie and Sadie.
Take That: Against Twilight, McDonalds, Total Drama Action...
Tempting Fate: Izzy letting Sierra in the island during the second season reminds the readers of this.
Thirteen Is Unlucky: Total Drama Alphabet's cast, surprisingly enough, does not include anyone whose name begins with the letter M. And since M is the thirteenth letter of the alphabet... Although this is remedied later on in the story with Mallory's arrival.
Token Minority Couple: Isis from Alphabet ships Stephanie/Quincy (despite herself having feelings for Quincy)
Too Dumb to Live: Owen. Especially when he votes himself out for cake.
Took a Level in Jerkass: Chris, Justin and Leshawna.
Trial Balloon Question: TD Chris, Day 7: After being threatened with exposure, Leshawna tries asking Gwen how she'd react if someone else was responsible for posting her diary page everywhere. Gwen, naturally, doesn't respond well.
Tsundere: Katie, who has Belligerent Sexual Tension in her relationship with Noah, naturally.
Un Evil Laugh: Rachel says she is praticising.
The Un-Reveal: Katie's fanfic.
Viewer Gender Confusion: In-universe, some of the contestants seem to think Leanne is a girl.
- The fact that his name is "Leanne" doesn't help...
Villainous Breakdown: Justin gets one in TD Chris, after their elimination.
- Gwen also has one, when she discovers that everyone voted against her, to her own safety.
- Chris goes into an ever-larger, ever more insane one throughout TD Chris, with several meltdowns and tantrums along the way, culminating in completely losing his job at the end thanks to the producers exploiting a loophole in his contract.
What Could Have Been: Author's notes at the end of each 'episode' reveal how the order of elimination was changed, as well as alluding to how these changes had different effects on the series.
What the Hell, Hero?: Noah badmouthing Katie in her front, without feeling remorse. It was a challenge, but still...
