Koichi Hayase

• Break the Haughty: And boy, does he get broken. Hard.

• Cannot Spit It Out: His feelings for Emi
• Clueless Chick Magnet: The guy has four beautiful girls all after him... and yet, he only appears to be romantically interested in Emi.

• I Will Protect Her: Towards Emi, mostly. But despite not noticing the other girls' crushes, he's still quite protective towards all of them.

• Jumped At the Call: Deconstructed. His behaviour in his first battles caused lots of property damage, as he lashes out towards anyone

• Unstoppable Rage: First, in response to Yajima's death. Then, in response to Emi's.
• What the Hell, Hero?: He receives quite a lot of these, especially at first.

Emi Kizaki

• Cannot Spit It Out
• Catch Phrase: "You're the worst!" / "You make me sick!"
• Chainsaw Good: Episode 6, though it's Played for Laughs
• Clingy Jealous Girl: She's just as clingy and jealous as Risako. She just does a (slightly) better job at hiding it.
• Dojikko: In the first few episodes.
• Fish Out of Water: "What's a Christmas party?"
• It's All My Fault: Mostly in Episode 15, as she thinks that it's her fault if Juda has been scattered and people are dying to protect her.

• Really Seven Hundred Years Old: Around 650+ years old.

Reiji Moritsugu

• Curb Stomp Battle: His first two fights with Koichi consist of nothing but him beating the crap out of the poor kid. However, he gets on the receiving side of this trope when Emi gets in Linebarrels' cockpit.

• Cry Cute: Normal Shizuna - a tough, aggressive tomboy who takes crap from no one. Crying Shizuna - a total and complete Woobie.
• Every Girl Is Cuter With Hair Decs: Actually invoked when Koichi gives her his necktie holder as an hairpin. Shizuna's response is... quite spectacular.
• Genki Girl: Aw yeah!
• Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Beneath all that arrogance and bluster, Shizuna is actually a very warm person.

• Easily Forgiven: Subverted. Koichi does not forgive him for his crimes, but accepts to put his resentment aside and work with him for the greater good. Played straight in the manga, where Koichi does forgive him, and even offers to help him. Admittedly, his goals in the manga are different from the anime.

• The Dragon: But not to Kato. To Central.
• Hannibal Lecture: He gets rather fond of these as the ending of the series comes close. Works on Miu. Not so much on Koichi.
• Nice Hat
• Peek-a-Bangs: Justified. He needs it to hide his cybernetic eye, which would reveal that he's a Machina Human.
