War Machine

War Machine/Lt. Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes

"I'm not interested in being a superhero. I just want to keep Tony safe. From himself, mostly."

Tony Stark's best friend and military liaison. Rhodey tries to talk sense into Tony regarding his antics as Iron Man, and even offers to help him, but he would also prefer to use the War Machine armor only as a last resort.

• All There in the Manual: Rhodey's first scenes didn't contain any explicit confirmations about whether or not he had become War Machine. However, one of the comics from the limited series includes a flashback of him as War Machine, helping Iron Man fight Crimson Dynamo.

• Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: He doesn't appear for 27 episodes after "Iron Man is Born!"
• Gatling Good: Well, this is the War Machine armor after all.

Bucky

Bucky Barnes/James Buchanan Barnes/Winter Soldier

A young sidekick who fought alongside the legendary Captain America during World War II. Bucky's last WWII adventure ended with him and Cap on Red Skull's rocket, and Bucky sacrificing himself to prevent the bomb inside the rocket from killing Cap. About seventy years later, the Cosmic Cube granted a wish Captain America subconsciously made that Bucky would have survived that explosion. He resurfaced in the present day, as Winter Soldier.

• Actor Allusion: Scott Menville played another sidekick of a legendary superhero in Teen Titans.
• Artificial Limbs: Winter Soldier has a mechanical left arm.
• Back from the Dead: Played with. He was Killed Off for Real, but brought back via Cosmic Retcon, a la Jason Todd.

• Heroic Sacrifice: "The world needs Captain America more than Bucky." He survives, though.

Captain Mar-Vell

Captain Mar-Vell/Philip Lawson/Geheneris Hala Son Mahr Vehl

A Kree alien scientist stationed on Earth. His stay caused him to develop an appreciation for the planet, particularly a fondness for Carol Danvers. This has motivated him to try and convince the other Kree aliens that Earth could prove a valuable asset in the Kree/Skrull war.

• Anti-Villain: Type IV.
• A Storm Is Coming
• The Atoner: Again, like Doc Samson his reasons are mostly because he stood idly by while larger forces made their plans.
• Authority Equals Asskicking: He is a Captain.
• Badass Family: His daughter, Phyla, is confirmed to appear in season 2 as the second Quasar.
• Becoming the Mask: As in all versions this is his reason for defying his Kree superiors.
• But Now I Must Go: He leaves in his debut episode to argue on the behalf of Earth. He came back.
• Composite Character: Mixes 616 Captain Marvel with his Ultimate version.
• Genius Bruiser
• Morph Weapon: His suit is built-in with the ability to create guns, swords, and other weapons, presumably through nanotechnology.
• Race Lift: Goes from the white-skinned Kree minority to the blue-skinned majority due to being based on his Ultimate incarnation.
• Sour Supporter: Reluctantly chose to support the Kree's decision-making process, despite him not wanting earth destroyed.
• Tuck and Cover: This is how he accidentally gives Carol Danvers some of his powers.

I was chosen to be the guardian of my people. I underwent...modification. I became Beta Ray Bill, the pinnacle of Korbinite genetics and technology.

An alien warrior whose people and planet was destroyed by Surtur, making him one of the only survivors. Upon running into Thor, Bill discovers that he is worthy to lift Mjolnir, and joins Thor in battle against Surtur's demons.

• Badass: Even in his normal state, he was able to take Thor in a fight.
  • Badass Abnormal: According to his tale, he was already the best warrior in his planet before he got enhanced genetically and cybernetically. And then he proved to be worthy of wielding Mjolnir. Which got Thor to get him a similar hammer.
• Bash Brothers: With Thor.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Their first meeting ended up in a fight.
• Beauty Equals Goodness: Aversion; he looks like a monster both by humans and his people's standards, but he is such a noble person that he is one of the few persons beside Thor to be worth to hold Mjolnir.
• Costume Copycat: He is given an armor quite similar to Thor's at the same time than Stormbreaker.
• Cyborg
• Drop the Hammer: First with Mjolnir, then his personally forged hammer, Stormbreaker.
• Monochromatic Eyes: His eyes are pure white.
• Only the Chosen May Wield: So far, the only other character who can use Mjolnir.
• Racial Remnant: While he's the last of his race that's currently alive and well, there are other Korbinites on his ship that are in suspended animation while he searches for a new home for them.

Even though he has fought crime since before the Avengers first teamed up, most of the public has difficulty trusting him, partly due to slandering articles in The Daily Bugle.

• Animal Motif: spider, of course.
  • Goes on to mock members of the Serpent Society for theirs.
• Ascended Fanboy: he is obviously a fan of Captain America.
  • Ironically it's slightly mutual has Cap has heard the true stories of Spidey's adventures, and respects him for his ability to keep fighting despite his reputation.

• Early-Bird Cameo: Peter Parker took a photo of the Avengers in one of the tie-in comic books.
• Hero with Bad Publicity: like his comic counterpart, he is constantly bashed by Jonah J. Jameson, resulting in him possessing a bad reputation. In fact, after the Skrull Captain America taints the reputation of the real Cap, his reputation is compared to Spidey's.
  • By the end of his first appearance however Captain America has begun to regain some of his reputation, while Spidey's is still lousy.

Instead of having Scott go to jail for his latest bank robbery, Hank (along with Iron Fist and Luke Cage) helped him rescue Cassie, then allowed Scott to become the new Ant-Man. Iron Fist also invited Scott to join the Heroes For Hire.
